Beer Board Actions

The new Beer Board met after the County Legislative Body adjourned on Monday.
Commissioners Jackson and Campbell were named chairman and vice chairman respectively. Other members are Commissioners Howell, Houston, Adams Beech and Cary. Trustee Carol Wade is also a member.
During this meeting the County Attorney announced that she had receive an Attorney General opinion that when the county issued a license to sell beer to Inmam's Store in Campbellsville they should have used the 1000 foot distance instead of the four hundred foot distance thus the permit should not have been issued.
While many at the time tried to prevent this action, even the County Attorney advised that it was not wise to rush into the approval without everything being clear and settled. The County Attorney's advice was ignored and the County Executive along with the help of then Commissioners Jackson, Lovell and Harris approval was given and the beer permit was issued. We now are faced with tow alternatives according to the State Attorney General. ! Modify the Distance yet again. 2. Revoke the beer permit.
Either way the county is once again opened itself to another lawsuit because some consider themselves above the law. When will those whom we have entrusted with leadership positions begin to act responsibly and follow the law?

When is this county going to wake up and act like it's 2010. They're about to legalize marijuana in california, and people here are spending all this effort on where you can buy a lousy BEER.

Set the beer thing aside, though. This whole thing has been a waste of time from the very beginning. Janet did what she wanted to do, bullying as usual, and disregarding the advice of the attorney we all pay for. AND THEN SHE GOT VOTED BACK IN AS COUNTY EXECUTIVE?

Add this to the many reasons why I'm embarrassed for Giles County. The Internet is an amazing research tool, and anyone moving here is going to find all this out and choose to live somewhere else.

it's obvious to me that Giles county is on it's way to become a wasteland. Janet and her allies may not realize how much they're hurting the growth of this community. Or maybe they do, and they WANT to turn it into one big retirement community ...with a WalMart.

(and LOL at 12:05. I'd buy you a beer!)

I heard Allen Barrett said he practiced witchcraft but never joined a coven. But there was a satanic alter on a date and some blood. Hey I guess we all have hung out with questionable people in highschool.

Did I mention that having beer board rocks? Its gonna be on hell of an Octoberfest.

I would hope the county attorney would again seek the advice of the state attorney general as to how to best resolve this with as little exposure to the county as possible...What am I thinking, even if she does the county exec and her crew will choose to ignore the advice again. Keep us informed WAB

It became obvious when Chan Harris and Edwin Lovell were voted out of office that residents of Giles county do not want the beer distance to be less than 1,000 feet. Some would wish for more but it needs to be set firmly at 1,000' and I will support my commissioners in making the correction. If the folks file suit against Ms Vanzant and Giles county, so be it, but the rest of us cant suffer for the likes of a few. Voters should have ousted Stoney Jackson as well but you cant win 'em all.

I read where Stoney Jackson got elected chairman of the Beer Committee. Now that's the joke. He should have been voted out just like the other two idiots Harris and Wheel tax Lovell.

WAB, I would normally show respect by calling you Mr. Barrett but I really have no more respect for you. You have allowed this blog to deteriorate in nothing but a gripe session for you. The threads you put on here do nothing but divide Giles County. There is never anything posted on here that anyone can agree upon. Instead of setting an example as blogmaster, you call people various names and antagonize them. You must delight in this since you make no effort to follow the rules you set. It's pretty obvious that you don't know or care what the real purpose of the blog was when Kendrick McPeters started it. It is stated at the top of the thread page. Your blog comes nowhere close to what Kendrick had in mind. I have tried for the last several weeks to encourage you to post threads that we could debate and maybe come to an agreement on. But you continue to post topics that are divisive and which no real solution will ever be found. Yes, you are the blogmaster and can do what you want. And yes, I don't have to read your blog or make comments and that is what I intend to do. I encourage all those who feel like I do to stop reading this blog and making comments. Nothing good will ever come from it. Have a nice life. I will be praying for you.

To 21 Sept. 9:34
I find your comment both troubling and confusing. You state, “The threads you put on here do nothing but divide Giles County.” I am always open to any thread subjects you are anyone else have offered as topics. Have you offered any topics?
You state, “The threads you put on here do nothing but divide Giles County. There is never anything posted on here that anyone can agree upon”. Most of the topics I post are political in nature and politics almost always has two sides. The purpose of this blog is to inform, to fill the void that the local newspaper and radio station has not met. I seek to deliver information about events, activities and situations that is not easily available to most of the folks in the community. If you are looking for a feel good, superficial report on the community where most of the contents consist of sports and foreclosure notices then you will probably be more satisfied reading only the Pulaski Citizen. If you want a more in-depth report that allows discussion this blog is the only current source for Giles County. I’m sorry if it offends you but there are many things taking place in Giles County that offends me and should offend every citizen.
In order to make a point I have deliberately not followed the rules for this blog, and I have stated such, because some on here have been so adamant that even though rules are clearly broken there shouldn’t be any penalty or consequence for breaking those rules. My attempts have been to show the utter stupidity of such thinking.
You state, “It's pretty obvious that you don't know or care what the real purpose of the blog was when Kendrick McPeters started it. Your blog comes nowhere close to what Kendrick had in mind.”
It’s clear that while you claim to have great insight into Kendricks mind and motivation for things he did the truth is you did not form those insights from hours of conversation with him.
This is the statement written by Kendrick that continues to be at the top of this blog, “The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Help make a difference”. Are you suggesting that every post that does not offer "a logical argument" should be deleted? Are you asking that every post that does not appear to be "gentlemanly and civil" should be deleted? Who would you suggest make the determination as to what is logical, gentlemanly and civil?
Here’s where you can help, since you find I have moved so far away from this principle, please tell me what you would do to insure that discussions are “gentlemanly and civil” when some are so cowardly that they refuse to even post with their own name? There is little I would enjoy more than to be able to post a topic that identifies a problem and have it discussed on topic, through factual information and in a civil manner.
I have posted nothing that I have not supported with factual information yet almost every attempt I have made to have civil discussions has been sabotaged with personal attacks against me. The validity of my statements have very, very seldom ever been questioned with anything other than the personal feelings of the objector. My positions are not attacked; I personally am the object of the attacks. There would be no one who would benefit more, nor be more pleased, than me if posters would stay on topic, rely on facts instead of emotions, and stop the personal attacks. So while I appreciate your comments, I continue to be at a loss as to how to insure our idealized vision for this blog can become a reality.
I do appreciate your prayers
Allen Barrett

5:33,5:28,5:33. Clearly you are the same imbecile. Could you be anymore distasteful?? I don't think so! Is this how you spend your spare time? Wallowing in pornography and illicit type behavior. In my opinion, anyone who would put websites such as you have posted directly or indirectly to mislead people is despicable and disgusting. I have to wonder what gene pool you hail from. You must be some ticked off official's immature, sick-minded child. What you are posting could land your can in a lot of trouble. Are you some sick pedophile who gets their kicks looking at underage girls?? You need help and quick!! You may have just landed your self in some seriously hot water with the content, website in your posts. You really have no idea who monitors this blog do you??? Right now this blog is getting a lot of needed attention and I would beware as you appear to promote this trash you are posting. Anything to get your kicks, huh? We'll see who'll be laughing last buddy..

Underage girls depicted in sexual situations on a website or other format is call CHILD PORNOGRAPHY. If in fact these girls are underage. People are arrested and convicted all the time for possessing this material. It is irrelevant who is promoting it, myspace, facebook, etc. Just because you may see it on these networking sites does not make it legal...it just means they haven't been caught yet.

Because some one has taken to posting with my name, obviously the same immature jerk that is posting the porn sites, when I post it will include a picture of me that is posted only with my password.

Mr. Barrett,

If you would re-read most of your topics, or if you could have an outsider describe your positon based on your writings, you could possibly begin to understand how how these discussions turn emotional. For one, if you would state the problem without calling names or describing behaviour, it might be possible to have a discussion. Your spin is a real turn off to most people.

If you don't believe it, check the latest election results. That is not to slam you......it is hopefully to wake you up. I have said many times that you have a lot to offer, you just turn too many people off to get it done.

To 8:13 You finally got one right. In my haste to report I misstated that Mrs Wade was the Trustee instead of the County Clerk. My apologizes to both Mrs Wade and Mrs Townsend who is the Trustee.
I never said she was a voting member of the Beer Board. Her primary responsibility with the Beer Board meetings is recorder. Thanks for your diligence, too bad you can't channel that interest into monitoring the activities of the Beer Board.

After reading the paper about beer board and the mess the county is in over the stupid decisions and special treatments they have been involved in I am disgusted. I know not everyone on the beer board did this but those who did should have to pay out of their own pocket for every expense including the beer board meeting to make the corrections. I can only hope the full commissioner will be sensible enough to set the 1000 feet mark and leave it there regardless of the consequences.
