To Change Or Not To Change
The County Legislative Body met this morning and discussed, then voted to keep the Commission Meetings at 9AM instead of moving some of them to the requested evening time. Commissioners Reedy and Houston were absent due to injury and illness.
Commissioner Campbell led the charge against the change stating, “we tried this before and it didn’t work why try it again?”
Commissioner Harwell was next to speak, having been a supporter of changing the time of the meeting during the election I was hardly surprised when he stated, “5:30 would be harder for me than 9:00.”
The first voice of reason came from Commissioner Faulkner who made the simple statement, “we need to remember why we’re here and how we got here, and the people should be considered.”
Commissioner Pope when given the opportunity stated, “we need to keep personal agendas out of this.”
After these statements the vote was taken and ten Commissioners voted for the time change and nine voted against it. The proposal failed because it required a two thirds majority to pass.

What? You left Mrs. Vanzant out of this one. I noticed that you took shots at Tommy Campbell and Terry Harwell. Shame on you once again.
The shame is on those who supported a change then voted against it.
I agree with 7:30 the shame is on those who so publicly supported changing the time, so more citizens would be able to attend, then voted to keep the time the same. It's obvious that arrogance isn't just in the chili.
Not one commissioner who spoke in favor of keeping the time at 9AM spoke of any concerns other than the inconvenience it would cause commissioners. Every commissioner who spoke in favor of changing the time spoke in terms of what would be more beneficial to the community and its citizens.
Is the greater concern for the commissioners or for the community without question from the votes cast in this legislative meeting some commissioners are concerned only with what's best for them individually.

No, the 2:41 post had a sleazy suggestion that Tommy was hanging around someone's office like some salivating dog over a hot biscuit. The inference was there. Had it been only intended as a slam against Tommy's belly, then why was the office he supposedly hangs around mentioned? Can you not see what kind of trouble that could cause both families? It might be a good idea for voters to keep a log of how their commissioners voted. Then before the next election they can refer back to it to help them make their decision at the pole.
Can we not have the radio station carry the meetings again? They used to do that years ago. It would be impossible to have a meeting when everyone can be there but most of us could at least listen on the radio.
Is it the radio that don't want to broadcast it or is it vanzant and the commissioners don't want it on the radio, for the citizens to hear?

I remember when it was, why was it stopped? Did the radio station change hands? Who was the county Executive when it stopped. Did the county executive at the time and Commissioners at that time want it stopped? did this new privacy act stop it or did no one want to sponsor it on the radio? How many years ago was it?

The people at the radio station say people weren't interested in the meetings, but many suspect that because the broadcast were done live Vanzant could not have the unfavorable parts edited out like she does with the TV program.
I don't see how you can say they edit the TV stuff. I attend some of those meetings when I can, and watch them on TV looking for this sort of thing, and I just don't see it. Maybe Mr. Barrett will comment on whether he thinks they edit any of it. There was an off color comment made in the last commission meeting that I hope they do edit out though as it has nothing to do with county business.

something is up 1:25...guess the brakes were put on the pilot deal until they could strike a deal with an entity willing to pay for the high price real estate in this county. ask around and see who owns some of the land out at exit 14. then ask who's land it was that pilot was going to purchase before our illustrious co. exec. compromised the the whole deal. then ask who's land is now being developed for a business venture out there to accommodate these new water lines. all questions i feel would enlighten the citizens of giles co. if you can get anyone to answer them.

Yes the Pilot Station is finally being built inspite of the delays caused by Vanzant. One difference is now it will cost the county a million dollars instead of nothing since before Pilot was willing to pay the full amount
