Can Anyone Justify The Head Of TVA Making 3.6 Million Last Year?
Just two years after TVA buried 400 acres under a coal ash spill that resulted in millions of dollars to clean up TVA handed out over 94 million dollars in bonuses this year. The top 90 executives averaged over $120,000.00 each, the non-executives will get an average of $6,917.00 each.
Tom Kilgore head of TVA was paid $3.6 million dollars for the fiscal year that ended in September 2010 making him the highest paid federal employee in the country. Next year he will be eligible for another $200,000 added to that salary.
Now in addition to these very lucrative bonuses salaried employees are scheduled to receive a 2.9% raise this fall.

Locally, maybe we could start with our local PES board. Start from the bottom up letting them know it has to stop and they need to take the message to their TVA meetings. We could start with presenting a petition and presenting that to the board. Anyone know the date and time of their next meeting? If we get a petition together then we need people to show up for the meeting. Dont leave it to the minor few. Strength in numbers dont forget.
PES board members are the same as what we had a couple of years ago, except for Dan Speer who is now replaced by Pat Ford, of course. BTW, PES board members receive a pension paid for by the rate payers. Is it any wonder Speer never changed the members? This too needs to change.

What? These valued few show up once a month for a meeting that last maybe and hour; they get paid and then get a pension on top of that? Who on earth but another creepy politician would come up with a thing like this?

Most of those appointed to the TVA board over the past two years by President Bush have been Republican activists and financial supporters of GOP causes. Robert “Mike” Duncan from Kentucky is chairman of the Republican National Committee, and Susan Richardson Williams, who is awaiting confirmation for another term, was previously chairwoman of the Tennessee Republican Party. TVA Chairman Bill Sansom, a Knoxville businessman, served in the Cabinet of U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., when Sen. Alexander was Tennessee’s governor.
Collectively, the eight people appointed or nominated to the TVA board by the Bush White House, and their spouses, gave $592,405 to Republican candidates and organizations since 1994, according to a Chattanooga Times Free Press compilation of campaign records. Four of the board appointees also contributed lesser amounts to Democratic candidates.
The GOP tilt to the new board is one of the unintended consequences of adopting the TVA board change without congressional hearings in 2004, Mr. Crowell said.

While there is no direct evidence for that, and it may or may not make a dimes worth of difference as to why they supported the pay raises and bonuses; they should have to be questioned as to why they approved these pay increases, in such a severe economic downturn.
And why is there no investigative journalist looking into this? Perhaps if there is enough outrage over it, then maybe there could be congressional investigations into it?

The 2000 census numbered 29,447 individuals in Giles County. The 2009 estimate has dropped that number to 29,082. A reduction of 365 or -1.2% this is while the state grew at a 10.7 rate.
To answer your question why would anyone want to move here after finding out that nepotism controls the county, corruption is prevalent in local politics, those not born here are unwelcome unless they bring a truck load of money with them, jobs are in short supply, wages are held artificially low, to do business you have to co-operate with the Pulaski Mafia, and a large segment of the population is willing to tolerate such wrongdoing.
The problem isn't the "hate and strife" you claim but the fact that little to nothing is done to solve the problems, and so you can save your time, covering up and denying the existence of a problem is never a way of solving the problem.

I would like to know if the county has increased or decreased. What is wrong with that?

In 2009 it was 29,082.
That's not much of a lost but still a lost.
I google Giles Co., TN population and found this, will it help you?

Giles County is one of 95 counties in Tennessee. The estimated population in 2004 was 29,255. This was a decrease of -.65% from the 2000 census.
That was 6 years ago, sorry I can't help anymore than that, I suggest you go with what Allen Barrett said.
Mr Barrett said "The 2000 census numbered 29,447 individuals in Giles County. The 2009 estimate has dropped that number to 29,082. A reduction of 365 or -1.2% this is while the state grew at a 10.7 rate."
These are numbers from the US Census Office and can be checked by typing in US Census into any search engine then go to Tennessee and then to Giles County. There is a lot of important information there
about the people in the county.

Look, I honestly thought our population had grown a little (not much). If barrett is right about that, then so be it, and I accept it as gospel.
I realize that kids go off to college, people die, some families are transient, and etc. Wouldn't such things as those affect population at any given time? Even so, a loss of some 350 people does not mean our county is dying. Ok? I still say there are businesses as well as families who would move here were it not for all the embarrassing fussing and fighting that prevails.
Whenever I'm wrong, I'm man enough to admit it. Perhaps we all could do that instead of calling names and trying to stir up trouble.

Getting back on topic this information was just released on Monday. Still it's doubtful many have read about it anywhere else.
"Tennessee Valley Authority residential customers will pay up to $1.50 more a month in January to cover an increase in the utility's fuel costs. The utility said in a statement that demand is expected to increase, primarily because of colder weather.
The monthly increase is the ninth since March and represents an 18.3 percent climb in fuel costs since January.

Perhaps it's not just the weather but the huge salaries that have caused yet another increase.
With the president closing oil wells and banning all drilling in the gulf by Americans, only foreign countries can now drill and pump oil in the gulf, gas has taken yet another huge increase at the pumps.
Since this president has taken office gas has increased $1.30 per gallon. When the Democrats took control of Congress in January 2007 the economy was doing pretty well. One of the first things that the Democratic Congress did was to “punish” big oil. The result has been oil and gasoline prices at all-time highs. Regular gas went from less than $2.50 per gallon to nearly $4 per gallon on a national average.
Nice story Barrett, but not true. Under bush and the republican led energy bill, gas went to $4.40/gallon. After the democratic energy bill, gas prices dropped by their largest decline in history to $1.60/gallon.
I'm not sure the democratic congress ever "declared war" on big oil, thy it sure beat the crap out of them....thankfully for all of us.

Are you aware of how many retirement plans are funded by investments in oil companies? Most mutual funds have investments in oil companies. When the government, under the democrat congress, attacked the oil companies it was those investors that suffered most as they watched their IRA's drop like a bowling ball going over the edge of a table.

Of course when you’re eating $90.00 a pound steak with your buddies, walking around in shirt sleeves with your cigarette dangling it’s hard to consider the cost of gasoline or that heating oil has doubled since last year. One thing to consider is that even $90.00 a pound steak is turned into the same thing as $.20 worth of beans and a president or an enabler is full of the same thing.
