Budget Committee Meeting 30 May
Some information shared at the Budget Committee Thursday.
While it has not been certified the established value of the property tax penny is $49,856.00 which means for every penny of property tax assessed $49,856.00 will be brought into the county fund. This totals $524,800,000.00 owed the county from assessed county property.
This is a significant increase over last year and is the result of the reassessment that was highly inflated by our tax assessor and the folks in Nashville.
The statement was made by the County Executive that "there is money in the budget and we need to pay Beth more". Supposedly this is because she will be filling in as Director, but isn't that the job of the Assistant director who is already being paid more than what she is qualified for. for non-existent qualifications and duties? At a time when we don't even know the actual status of the county's financial condition we certainly do not need to be even more wasteful and give out pay increases to select individuals.
When introduced by the County Executive, Ms. Moore stated that she acknowledged much familiarity with the school system she was very limited in the other ares of the office. She then turned to Mr Bodary from CTAS and sat silent during the remainder of the meeting. The question is as Assistant Director why isn't she familiar with all operations of the department? Has she been paid almost $49,000.00 a year just to do schools and isn't schools where the biggest problem has been?
The proposed Highway Budget was presented but withdrawn after it was revealed it had not gone before Highway Committee.
The Stevenson Road bridge was once again resurrected, seems it has more lives than ten cats. After the full commission voted overwhelmingly to permanently close the bridge I can not understand why the matter keeps coming back.
The School Budget was presented but Mr. Jackson wasn't present so there was no discussion.
It seems a complete disassociation by Mrs Vanzant with Mrs Garner has taken place with Mrs. Vanzant
claiming all the financial problems were created by Mrs Garner. I guess she forgot all the amendments she pushed Mrs Garner to approve and the incomplete, unofficial, inappropriate requests for payment that was approved by Mrs Vanzant. Oh well, guess we can all go back home, to Tara, after all tomorrow is another day. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Looks like a posted a very confusing statement in this thread. The $524,800,000 is the total amount of all property assessed in the county.
The total amount of revenue expected for the county from the $2.77 tax rate is $13,815,596.00.
I apologize for any confusion caused by this oversight on my part.

It should become obvious to most everyone that if the current group of County officials (not all but a majority) see any source of funding, that funding is spent. They have no fiscal responsibility. They just spend, spend, spend. They have no financial plans for the future; they only look at today and not tomorrow.
We need a County Executive who is adept at looking towards the future and plan what needs to be done. We need someone who has the strength to say no to over spending and concentrate on that is needed and not what they want.
This is a wakeup call to everyone. If the current tax revenue rate is accurate; the County will have to raise our property taxes $0.14 just to cover the announced deficit of $661,000.00. I predict that our property tax rate will be raised $0.25 to a new rat of $3.02, along with a wheel tax of $25.00. Otherwise out tax rate (without a wheel tax) will be raised $0.35 to a new rate of $3.12 If you do not want to do the math …. This means that our 2013 County budget will increase almost $2 million. I personally want to see unneeded spending dropped. And money saving measures put into place.

That's because the cost of doing business just continues to go up, up, up. You know that.
And that cost of doing business is greater when you hire best fit employees as opposed to best qualified. We have seen this. When you waste money hiring friends and making new unneeded positions as pay back. And you know this 8:24.

I would appreciate if you would let us all know what you do for a living and what are your area of expertise that give you the right to think you know it all? I have about heart enough out of you and would like for you to cite some source of credibility to confirm that your negative attitude isn't born from jealousy or spite. Are you at least brave enough to give any of that information?

As for myself, I was educated at a major University in business, have worked in management for major companies as well as for fortune 500 companies. In addition I am a citizen in this community that is sick of the best fit hiring practices that has been prevalent and has helped to run our county in debt. If you want more tax dollars then first prove you are not wastefully spending the money that is available. The financial management office is a good example with the hiring of Terry Harwell, a man that may not even have a high school education or GED and a janitor that was quickly placed in another department when her qualifications were questioned by a commissioner. I could continue but I have to go to work. But did the money that is not missing but we do not know where it is ever show up?
Now are you brave enough to list your qualifications and stop enabling wrong doing? Probably not just going to continue to lie on here and act like you are not posting any more.

6:41, I had to take a little break from posting, it was getting too personal and contributing too my anger management issues. I was afraid if I stumbled upon the idenity of some of the posters, I wouldn't be able to control myself. Besides, y'all are doing just fine without me. Sounds like you need to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Vanzant so that you may have your concerns addressed. Is this not the way our system of government is set up? Of course it is. You guys just don't want to go along with it because your people are politically impotent and have no say. Thank God!
I hear a lot of talk from you folks that citizens have a right to question their elected officials. I agree. Go talk with Mrs. Vanzant or with your commissioners. Surely, you can find at least one who is not "corrupt".
