Negotiating Committee Presented Contract For School Director

The School Board met and the negotiating committee presented a three year contract for Dr. Timothy Webb at a salary of $101,00.00 per year, $94,000.00 for salary, $6,000.00 for travel and $1,000.00 for education. This salary was set by the negotiating committee and was set partly in order to comply with the state requirement that the director be the highest paid person in the school system. Currently the interim director’s salary is $94,000.00, but should drop back to the previous salary on 1 July 2013 when Dr. Webb’s contract starts.
The troubling part of this situation is that Board members agreed before the meeting that no one from the audience would be allowed to ask questions including Commissioners. This clearly is a step backwards for the Board by holding private meetings and prohibiting public participation.
The full board will vote on the contract at its regular 5PM meeting Thursday.

If I were a school board member, I wouldn't allow anyone to speak either. This is because I wouldn't want WAB to speak. He has shown time and time again his inability to work toward a common cause. He would much rather cause trouble. He rarely has something positive to say or contribute.

Have you ever wondered why (by your standards) he says nothing positive?---probably because its not possible to get to positive conversation due to all the problems with the way business is executed. So the first negotiation wasn't legal, so they decided prior and called a meeti g that no one was allowed to ask questions. How does that get justified? A commissioner couldn't even ask? What a joke. They are so scared of Mr. B pointing something out they refuse to let anyone speak. Same ol same ol

9:07 That is EXACTLY right. I know this for a fact. I heard a man say that very same thing. He said he would not put up with the attacks of Allen Barrett and his buddies.

9:33 Don't hold your breath about that so-called charter. We will work harder to defeat it next time than we did before. I still have my signs and continue to remind people about WHO is behind this thing and why they think we need it when we don't. Take your best shot. We will stand opposed.

A reasonable person doesn't want to be around those who would seek to ruin him or humiliate his family out of spite and jealousy. THAT sir, is why a lot of reasonable people will not enter Giles County politics.

7:18 "I know this for a fact" because you heard a man say it? Seems facts should require a little more than hearing someone say a thing. Maybe that's why your facts don't pan out very often.

9:07 your post doesn't make any sense. All Allen Barrett is doing is trying to get Giles County to conduct business based on state and local laws. If that were to happen then Giles County won't be the most corrupted county in the state. Then I would expect more people to run for elected positions.

Perhaps I am missing something. It would seem that any official or potential official, with nothing to hide, would welcome input from any and all citizens. Isn't that what they're there for? A government of the people shouldn't mean that a candidate tells their future constituents what they want to hear only until elected and then do as they please. Doesn't sound much like democracy.

Calling people names and trying to embarrass or ruin them in a public manner is NOT what I would call offering input.
In the past,I had been asked to run for an office, but I said no because of the likes of Allen Barrett and his buddies. I wouldn't tolerate his calling me everything in the book, accusing me of corruption, etc. Would you? Take care.

Well 1003 it's a shame to be so afraid of someone to that point. Have you ever thought that the "name calling" you talk about stems from the unwillingness of those involved to listen, consider, and finally comply with ideas and laws. Should they ever do that-problem solved.

You can't have thin skin and run for any kind of office. In every city in every state there are groups of "Allen and his buddies," "Frank and his pals", or "Ricardo and his amigos" talking about the government. Some use names they shouldn't; some give their opinion based on feelings, while others name the good and bad with facts to back up what they say.

No one is going to please everyone or behave in a manner fitting that of an elected official at all times. Anyone can say what they think, as long as it doesn't constitute slander or libel. You lose whatever expectation of privacy you might once have had before you decided to run for public office. It may irritate or offend you, but that's just how it is. My opinion, anyway.

Hey Mr. Reporter Barrett! Why don't you read the story on WKSR.com about Parr Industries and do something worthwhile and investigate this and report back? I understand his fine was almost $40,000 yet he says he wasnt fined. I also understand some of this money will come back to Giles county! Find out how much! Thank goodness he wasn't elected! And someone tell I'm to pick up his signs! He should be sited for littering too! Find uout where all this unreported waste went! Into our water supply???? And you thought TVR was bad!

Let's get back on topic. I think the last 3 people on the Director's salary's negotiating team was no better than the first three. Let's vote them all out when their terms are up. Better yet, let's get a petition started to ouster them. Also, anyone want to take bets that Mrs. Braden's salary won't go down any when Webb starts? School Board, you are in there to do what is right and protect our money from being wasted. Watch this and make sure everything stays on the up and up. All I'm saying is the School Board members and the Commissioners should not spend our hard earned tax money on stupid stuff that is very unnecessary like they have done in the past. If Rhonda Turner is going be be on the school board she needs to show up at the meetings and do her job. If she is not interested then she needs to resign and let someone represent the people of the 6th district. She didn't even show up to vote on the new Wee contract so of course there was not enough to split the vote. If you are not satified with never showing up then vote her out at the next election. The sad part of that is it's 4 more years and the people in her district will not be represented by anyone.

Remember DAW. Remember how he used to get on here and tell how stupid the commissioners where for not putting a wheel tax on people and how the commissioners needed to use the Debt Service money to cover the work at Frankewing and so on and so forth. Remember how he wanted everyone to think he was so knowledgeable in county government. Well guess what, I think I know why he's been so quiet. A person with the initials DAW is in the classified this week under Notice of Trustee's Sale where he and some woman has defaulted on their property. If county had listened to him, more people would have been in his shoes. Don't believe DAW could have afforded another tax. Sometimes it just is best to keep your mouth shut, especially when you really don't know what's best for the people of this county. Additional taxes which places additional burdens on families is not the answer. Truly staying within your budget is the answer and if your budget is not enough to cover your expenses, then cut back. Just about everyone is having to do it these days and times.

7:05 How would that be politics? Sounds like Webb is making sensible decisions that no one else had the sense or gumption to make before. There has been alot of excessive spending for years in the school system and now it is time to be practical. I've been keeping up with the school system for the sake of grandchildren and like what the new director is doing. However, I don't understand why Holt is still principal at the elementary school. Doesn't Webb realize he is a liability and that school has remained stagnant due to his ineffective leadership? It seems that all the other schools in the system are moving forward but not that school. Maybe people need to contact their board member like they did about the Elkton principal. I've called mine.
