City Suspends Rule of Law

The Pulaski Board of Mayor and Aldermen met Monday for a work session and decided that they were not bound by the rule of law.
Inspite of the State Attorney General's Opinion that communities have no authority to adopt ordinances that require doctor's prescription for medicines containing pseudoephedrine and are in fact in violation of state law when they do, the Council decided they were above the law and would continue with their illegal requirements.

With the attitude that they are above the law isn't the council actually setting the example for others to violate those laws they disapprove of? If the leaders have no respect for the law why should others, isn't that the very reason we have such a problem with criminals, the lack of respect for the law?

The City Attorney stated that he believes the state legislature will address the issue in its upcoming session and that would decide the issue once and for all but unless the board repeals the ordinance, it will remain in effect until the state legislature overturns it.
Now here's the problem, how about if someone decides "well, I believe the legislature will legalize Marijuana in it's next session so until then I will sell, use and ignore the law because I want too."  Perhaps someone will say, "I believe the legislature will do away with speed limits in the state so until then I can drive at any speed I choose."

The way the law works is not on the belief that something will be done at a later date therefore that law can be ignored until then, no until the law is changed or repealed it remains in effect and the same requirements to follow it are supposed to be the on every responsible person.

The City Council, regardless of their motivations, is wrong on this matter and are setting a terrible example for all the people to see. Any drug store that follows this illegal action should be boycotted.

WAB continues to be a negative influence on the city and county. The question that I have is will he ever bring any positive energy?

We all know better.

I'd say that WAB has brought a lot of positive energy. He positively has lit a fire under some of the crooks that run this place including you 1:45. The only news source that can be depended on to give the full story and not just the mush heard over the radio and in the paper.
I hate to think how much worse this place would be if it wasn't from Mr. Barrett keeping us informed.
Why didn't you write about the subject 1:46? The people want a lawful city and you only want to attack Mr. Barrett.

Really 1:46 you wrote the same thing under 2 items. Couldn't you at least change a word or two. No you don't want to address the questions you just want to be negative about Barrett. 3:04 got it right. You sure can't count on what they call a newspaper here.

I hate to get off topic, but what has WAB accomplished, other than to create a stink?

What tangible result has he ever accomplished?

Here's a thought that is off subject: Why does WKSR post twice about our wonderful city counsel's plans for next year? The plans: da ta da da ~ hold it ~ yes, that's it ~ a SPORTS COMPLEX and DOWNTOWN REVITILIZATION. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, what a snooze fest! Can y'all not come up with better plans for 2014. Really! Another SPORTS COMPLEX? I would think finding a way to communicate with the oh so competent Industrial board about BRINGING MORE BUSINESS INTO THE COUNTY would be more essential to GROWTH. And who actually goes to the square to buy things? The rich and famous of Giles County, that's who! Once the pockets are lined, they're yours!

This post was not actually about WKSR.

Pat Ford is such an egomaniac its not even funny. Everything he does, he does for himself. The MAYOR1 license plate is a perfect example. His "Me! Me! Me! attitude about everything is sickening.
His performance at Martin Methodist College should tell you about his true capabilities.
On rare occasion where he can take credit for achieving something, it is uncommon for him to congratulate those who actually reached or helped reach those goals.
He is no leader!

Let's change shit up around here and be progressive. No, wait a minute, I change my mind. Let's bitch about being progressive. Hello, my name is Allen Barrett. I don't know what I want, wait, yes I do. Well, maybe I don't. What does the county and city want? Well, I don't want that, I want the opposite. Don't ask why. Okay, I will tell you, I just like to complain. TAA DAA!

I also got lucky enough to have a few idiots support me on my blog. One of 'em is a teacher and the other is a free thinker. Good thing the advice is free, doubt anyone would pay for it.

Dear "of the saints"

Progressive? A SPORTS COMPLEX? PARK BENCHES? You must have big goals for our community! How many ball fields do we need around here? If more thought (haha) were put into education instead of mediocre sports teams our community would have a better chance to thrive. What folks around here need to find out is that sports are meant for entertainment. Nowadays people will skip church because it is more important to play a soccer game on Sunday or they are "too tired from hunting." That wouldn't have happened in my day! PROGRESSIVE!

FYI - The City has not violated a rule of law. Currently, the only thing that has been given is an opinion.
Decisions like this are made frequently to force other actions.

Really 8:56? You are so full of bull. What action are they trying to force? Compliance with the laws? MTAS and the Attorney General both issued the same opinions. The opinions were issued because that is the law. Unlike the city of Pulaski the only goals of the Attorney General and MTAS are to see the laws are followed and municipals are compliant in their ordinances. Something obviously the city of Pulaski does not care about.

The government has so many of you brainwashed. You'd rather throw stones at the messenger (WAB) than stand up and speak against this obvious misuse of authority. Contrary to what some of you WAB haters believe, the government isn't supposed to be able to just do whatever the hell they want. Stop throwing stones at the messenger and try standing up for what's right.

9:39 WAB is not a messenger. He is an egotistical troublemaker. If he were really out for the good of the community, he would learn how to discuss without causing creating an uproar.

9:56 why do you not take the attitude toward those who caused the uproar in the first place instead of attacking Barrett for bringing it to the publics attention? Because it is easier to enable than to change your ways?

Your comments are ridiculous. I care what happens with my tax dollars and do not want public officials who abuse their positions, elected or appointed. We have a lot of that going on. You call it stone throwing to justify your twisted way of enabling the corruption. The fact is you think you and your buddies should be protected and given special treatment. People like you are why this area has such a bad name.

I will say thay we could have more visionary leadership from our county and city mayor positions, but that doesn't make them bad.

How in the world can we still be experiencing this in Giles County!! Didn't the city council save us from this with the pseudoephedrine ordinance? City council please completely ban pseudoephedrine from Giles County. You've extended your powers above state law and the Constitution so go ahead and extend your power to the county. No one will mind.
