PES Power Board Raises Rates

If PES Raising Rates by 2.57 % beginning 1 October was the end of the story there would be no point for me to comment. The fact is that's not the end of the story. Electrical rates have been going up for several years now not just by a regular rate increase but by add ons such as adjustments for fuel cost, ashe clean up, etc. Some of these increases have resulted from legitimate expenses but some have resulted from outrageous salaries and plain mismanagement and incompetency much at the TVA level.

PES is also asking for 2.5 million in new debt for a substation that was bid in at $861,292 leaving over a million and a half for “site preparation” . The Highway department can pave a mile of road for less than that, so what is required for a site to be “prepared”.

If what the PES plans to pay for remodeling bathrooms at a warehouse $68,800.00 budgeted and a bid of $74,125.00 bid to do the job I have to ask where do you get golden fixtures in this day and time? $74,125.00 to remodel bathrooms in a warehouse, a whole house with two bathrooms can be built for less than that. Perhaps that is the reason PES is asking the city to double it’s outrageous $200,000.00 a year billing fees to $400,000.00. Oh yes, I know TVA required PES to do a “cost of service adjustment” but how does that translate into a 100% increase. Surely the wiser heads at City Hall will reject this outrage and set up their own billing for gas, garbage, sewage and water. Two people and a couple of computers maybe? It seems with the exit of Wes Kelley the PES has drifted back into their old wasteful ways and perhaps it’s time for another community meeting to get them back on track again. The citizens of the county are being bombarded with more expense on every level while the jobs picture continues to erode for them. As a retirement community it seems we are quickly being overcome with more outgo than income.

I read where Brindley Construction was awarded the bid to build new bathrooms for PES and that bid was considerably more than the PES budgeted amount as posted by Allen Barrett. My queestions are 1) Was Brindley the only company that submitted a bid, 2) If Brindley's bid came in over the budgeted amount why didn't PES place a second ad for re-bids that would come in within the budget?

Why is it that Brindley Construction appears to be the only company that is awarded building contracts for both the city and county? Appears to be a monopoly.

Want to try and answer the question with more than a "because it isn't", dumbass? BTW, it would be terribly difficult to shout libel over a question. You must be a Brindley employee wanting steak instead of pork chops.

Nope. Just a concerned citizen fed up with jealous wannabe's baselessly trying malign local businesses that make this city and county function.

I do have to wonder about your indignant attitude and motives, though.

There were three bids, with one being disqualified for several reasons. I find it ridiculous that people get on here and argue about matters that they have no DAMN idea of what they are talking about. Why don't you attend the meetings and answer these questions for yourself.

I can't believe dumbasses like you get on here and make such asinine statements 7:00. you could have just as easily posted the info about the bid but hate to tell you if the local governments actions were reported or the meetings uploaded to youtube so all citizens could see them as opposed to only PES subscribers maybe the citizens would be informed. It is ridiculous to think 4000 adults can get off work and crowd into a room that holds 50.

But we know that the city council and committees would fight til their death before that happened because they do not want the public to know what they are doing like passing ordinances outside their authority.

Which government official or employee are you to get your panties in such a wad over the question. It does look like Brindley is awarded most if not all contracts. I personally know a contractor who will not bid on city jobs because "it is a waste of time when you already know who is going to be awarded the contract". Just a feeling some have.

Sure you will get your panties in a wad over that too.

Did it hurt you to post your first sentence? Thanks for saying that just sorry you had to act as hateful as some others has after telling us about the three bids.

10:24--Call a board member or a member of the staff at PES. You might learn something.
Try attending a meeting. Use the excuse that you can't get there. You will get there if you are that interested in what is happening.

Good point 4:34. I attended a meeting once and they asked every person in the audience if they wanted to address the board or had any questions. I felt very informed and my attendance seemed genuinely appreciated.

If I ever had a future concern I would find a way to make it there.

Just found out that Brindley was called by an employee of PES during the meeting questioning the bid when the bid that was a lot lower was not asked about its bid!!
Fishy to me.

Wow, a mob of concerned citizens. That sounds terrible...for the city council at least. A "mob" of taxpayers is exactly what is needed in this area. Of the people, for the people and by the people. Hell yes, raise a mob.

And you have the wrong perception of me. But isn't that because you want to keep something stirred up?
I think mob rule or control is very wrong. I for one choose to abide by the law and by processes that have been in place for, as you guys seem to criticize, over 200 years.

I would hate to see it got out of control. Thank God for police to help keep mobs in control.

First why is it a mob for several to attend a meeting? You tell people to attend a meeting, then you don't want them too?

Well CG, what do you think about the idea that if a law is wrong that the people have an obligation to disobey it? With the build up of homeland security directed at the people and the illegal behavior of the president which side will you be on when the revolt takes place, let me guess in your closet telling the mice what a brave person you are.

What a wonderful place to live and contribute. I have known Neal Bass a long time. Mayor Ford could not have made a finer appointment.

Why must you call Mayor Ford and Mr. Bass names? Are you just resentful and jealous because you or one of your friends isn't "in charge" of things? Hasn't this been the case for quite awhile now? Do you even realize where all this hatred and jealousy started? We both know who is the root of this evil, don't we?
