E-mail Topic: Juveniles and the Court
Hi, I would like to suggest the topic of juveniles in the court.. There should be something in place before they ever have to be seen in court.. Like an intermediary level of trying to work out whatever problem there seems to be...

Why does a teen-ager who gets a simple speeding ticket (50 in a 45 zone) have to go to court miss a day of school and pay court costs when an adult can simply pay the ticket at their convenience and be finished with it? I could understand if it was a more serious crime but speeding on Mill Street the cops exceed 45 on a regular basis, I've even seen THP doing more than 50 on there way to get gas and a soda at the Shell station.
It could be because the teen is a minor and has to have a parent or guardian present. Just a hunch.
...from someone who has been there...
there is a level of trying to work out problems... first the teachers then the principals do all they can..then CPS gets involved if the parent files an unruly child charge..or the child gets in enough trouble on their own..
now here is where most jump up to "blame" the parents.. how about the child that refuses to take responsiblity for their actions & defy all authority to do something??
some parents i have sat in court & watched their hearts break as their child dares all to "make them mind" & yes there are some parents who have issues of their own(such as alcoholism)& are unable to parent a child.
the post wasn't here but under another topic that said place the blame square on the shoulders of the parents & that is where the problem lies in the idea of someone has to be "blamed"...
i for one think that JB Smith & teachers at Bridgeforth do all they can to help those unruly kids but they also have those kids that need to learn without all that distraction too. so is there an easy answer?
of course not but it is easier to fall into the blame trap...

Please go back and read my post again. I didn't say that ALL of the blame rests with the parents. Some of the best parents have unruly children. But, in the vast majority of cases, the problem starts at home. Don't take my word for it. Go ask a few teachers.
I wasn't trying to "blame" as you call it. I was simply addressing the topic on that thread. Why did I know somebody would take issue with that?
I heard that two kids were arrested at Southside yesterday.
I saw on the news this morning that there was a terrible fight at Hunters Lane High School in Nashville yesterday. The cafeteria worker who called the cops was called into question moreso than were the thugs involved. Now how's that for a slap in the face of public education?
The powers that be wanted to sugar coat and pretend it all away. But the problem remains, and becomes more and more evident with time. The bad apples need to be gotten out of the barrel so those kids who truly want to learn will not be hindered.
Kids tell their parents that fighting is routine there. I just cannot imagine my spouse or child being a part of such a dangerous situation.
We need to get past all the so-called political correctness and preoccupation with diversity training and take steps to protect everyone concerned....even if it does "offend" the culprits! Ooops, I'm sure someone will suggest that I'm a racist!

I have heard that same argument from teacher friends of mine. They have two or three students in their classes who seem to do anything they can to create problems and give the teacher a hard time. Sadly, the teachers can't get them out of their classes and have to try to teach around their behavior. It's a shame these students can't be FIRED just like they will be when they reach adulthood and try to hold jobs!
