Who is your choice for president and why?

Boy, if this topic doesn't spark arguments, nothing will!

I guess if I had my way, Fred Thompson would be our next Commander-In-Chief. He seems like a down to earth guy, and I don't think he will put up with very much crap from all of these people who end up being offended by our Country's beliefs and culture. I hope he gets into office and brings America back to what it used to be, not what the immigrants are trying to make it into.

The question is asked, "wab, Why would you endorse F Thompson, a man into trophy wife No. 3?"
Truth is Fred Thompson got married at age 17 to Elizabeth Lindsey in 1959 they divorced in 1985. He married his second and present wife, Jeri Kehn, in 2002. Is she a "trophy wife" I guess it depends on how you define "trophy" wife. She is younger than he is and certainly much better looking but then so is my wife and I would say so are most
wives.
I support Thompson because he is the closest candidate to a conservative. Huckabee is a RINO, a republican Jimmy Carter who would open the border even wider to illegals and doesn't have a clue about national defense. Mc Cain has been on the wrong side of practically everything from illegals to campaign finance to tax cuts to requiring we all have to have HD TV's. Romney a New England republican with New England ideas. I'll have to hold my nose to vote for him if he gets the nomination. The truest conservative and most qualified of all those running without question is Duncan Hunter my dream candidate.
Another poster asked, "What's wrong with having a female president".
There's nothing wrong with having a female president if she was someone like Margaret Thatcher. The county does not need a socialist and there's no other way to describe the three Democrat front runners. Allen Barrett

I have NEVER understood how people claiming to be Christians these days can vote for any democrat candidate. The party itself endorses gay marriage, abortion, big government, more taxes, etc, etc. And yet, I have democrat friends who are devout members of their respective churches who defend themselves by saying that they are not personally supporting such things. They fail to see that a vote for a candidate who promotes such makes them, from a Christian perspective, partakers in their evil deeds.
I'm sure this will get a laugh from liberals, but the facts remain the same. And, this democrat party is NOT the same donkey your parents and grandparents rode. This is a very dangerous group of people.

BUT, where's the choices -
Democrat - Global monopoly, eliminate national sovereignty, flood the workforce with illegals to drive wages down - create a socialist state - everyone works for the state government. Raise taxes to enrich state & make poor worker work harder for less. Kill babies. Be nice to terrorists - What people? eliminate religion, trust nanny, & it ain't gonna get better

Republican -Global monopoly, eliminate national sovereignty, flood the workforce with illegals to drive wages down - create a totalitarian state - everyone works for state company. - raise prices to enrich company & make poor worker work harder for less. Kill parents when sick with no health care. Terrorist hold us together - What people? Pray for a better after life, cause this one is gonna suck.

There are NONE! Will be none until citizens take back their party from crooks, perverts, the Kennedys, Bushes, Clintons, & Flintstones!

It's a sad thing to hear someone, anyone talk about how voting is a waste of their time. There have been a terrible number of people who went to war and never came back or came back with parts missing, so we could have that opportunity to help choose our leaders. Maybe you vote for the person who loses but at least you made a contribution, you made the effort. I remember the pictures of those people with their purple thumbs who felt so proud that they were able to vote. Our country is in the shape it's in now because people like you were too concerned about your comfort instead of doing your duty, yes duty. It is our privilege to vote but it is also our responsibility to cast an informed vote. I will vote knowing that my choice doesn't have a chance of winning but it's my vote and I'll never have to hang my head and say it was too inconvenient to be bothered with doing.
I firmly agree with trimhed, this attitude makes me sick. Allen Barrett

Most people, the world over, vote using paper ballots which are dropped into locked Lexan ballot boxes, and later counted in full public view. But, here in the glorious USA, we use the ever so "convenient" Diebold electronic voting machines:

http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/january2008/010908_not_counted.htm

Alas, even if we used traditional paper ballots, it still wouldn't much matter. The people who really run this country -- the oligarchs of Wall Street and their corporate media lackeys -- have "fixed" the system so that, whichever candidate "We, the People" happen to choose, we will wind up getting the exact same programs and policies.

Anyone with a room temperature IQ, or higher, should be aware that there's no more difference between the "Democrats" and the "Republicans" than there is between Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Yes, the DEMs appear marginally more enthusiastic about slaughtering babies, and the REPs marginally more enthusiastic about slaughtering foreigners... but the truth is, even that apparent difference is a sham.

Need proof? Fine... when either of the "two" parties swaps power with the other, it always maintains the policies of the party being replaced. For example: the DEMs in 2006 ran on an anti-Iraq War platform, gained control over Congress on Election Day... and then spent all of 2007 doing NOTHING to end that war. In the same manner, the REPs promised that, if they EVER got control over both houses of congress, the presidency and the supreme court, that they'd FOR SURE do something about abortion, honest injun! After years of promising, they finally achieved absolute hegemony with the election of Bush Junior in 2000.... and then spent the next six years doing absolutely NOTHING regarding the prenatal holocaust. It's almost like... they never meant to do anything in the first place. Just like the DEMs with the ($1.7 Trillion and counting) war in Iraq.

None of this should be surprising, given that the same shadowy crowd of plutocrats is funding the election campaigns of candidates in "both" parties. No matter what candidate wins the farce known as "the election," the interests of the plutocrats will be served. You can count on it.

Occasionally, a candidate who is not bought and paid for by the plutocracy will emerge. Whenever this happens, the plutocratic press goes into overdrive "informing" the public that the maverick candidate is a "nut" or has the "support of racists" or "cannot possibly win." In the case of Ron Paul, all of this, and much, much more, has been said. The low point probably came after Ron Paul came in second in Nevada, and Fox "News" announced the first, third and fourth place finishers--- entirely ignoring Dr. Paul's coming in second! Hamhanded, Orwellian tactics like these should clue you in to the fact that Dr. Ron Paul is "the real deal" -- ie, the only true conservative left running in the 2008 presidential race.

Vote for Huckabee, Romney, McCain, or Guliani, and you might as well be casting a vote for Queen Hillary. Because all of these so-called "Republicans" are nothing but liberal supporters of the status quo. They're all interchangably unprincipled, and can be counted on to serve their plutocrat masters quite faithfully. If anyone other than Ron Paul is sworn in next January, we will be guaranteed four more years of high taxes, big spending, foreign warmongering, domestic invasion by illegal aliens, ever cheapening money, and a continuing sell out of our national sovereignty.

Only Ron Paul will stand up for true American values, and work toward the restoration of our freedom under the Constitution. So, If you happen to care about the future of America, you should cast your vote for Paul in the primary election. I know that the odds against him are long -- and that he'll probably be assassinated by a "lone nut" should it look like he's got a chance of winning -- but, still... it's the right thing to do. Our country is doomed -- by the entitlement time bomb, if nothing else -- and if we don't elect Ron Paul, we're probably missing our last chance at peaceful change.

Vote for peace, freedom, and prosperity-- vote Ron Paul for President in 2008!

All three right on, but we still have no choice & the global monopoly will still run things and give us a choice of who we can vote for. Any of the two controlling forces will have the Constitution completely gutted within the next 4 year debacle,

(I will vote - for my dog if necessary) - better yet, for any third party, including a rotton Communist - at least they would be honest. If Paul runs independent, I'll vote for him & not bother to even listen, otherwise, it's the dog. A damn chimpanze would be heads & shoulders above any of them! Think about it. Think about something that couldn't give any insane self serving orders - just arm flailing jestures. - Picture idiot bureaucrats running here, there, & everywhere so fast trying to please the leader, that they'd turn into pancake syrup or whatever it was that got Little Black Sambo before the PC idiots changed history!

I'd say God save the queen, but getting run over by a bus would be better for the country & everyone!

Obama the Muslim does not follow the religion that our country was founded on, so don't you think that if he gets into office that all of these extremist Muslims that we have in our country (and believe me, they are here) will be catered to? Obama in the White House will be the biggest mistake that the USA has made ever, period!

Sorry to tell you folks, I am a 35 year old white American woman and I am voting for Obama. I had been leaning towards voting for Hilary but have made my mind up to go with Obama. I had told my husband I would not vote for anyone who would not pledge Allegiance to our flag. Then I went to Obama's campaign website and read his biography and how he stood on all the hot button issues. I was wrong to jump to conclusions and believe what I had heard about him being a Muslim. He believes in Jesus and if you read his biography it says he has attended Trinity Church Of Christ for God knows how long. I would like for anyone reading this to take 10-15 minutes and at least view Obama's website so if anything to put the idea of him being a Muslim out of your head. I'm aware his staff can make up a background for him but I don't think they'd be dumb enough to do that knowing it would expose him as a liar and kill his campaign for sure. No doubt my comments will bring about some smart alec remarks so I guess all I can say is bring it on. You won't change my mind.

Obama was born a Moslem, was sent by his sep-father to Moslem schools. Yes he attend a "Christian" church not a Church of Christ but a United Church of Christ and there is a world of difference. The United Church of Christ is the most liberal church group in the nation ordaining perverts of all shapes. The church Barak Hussain Obama attends has dedicated it's self to the racist beliefs of a separate nation for blacks only that doesn't mean a separate nation for whites or others only a separate nation for blacks financed by our tax money. Recently the pastor that Obama so admires, gave a prestigous award to Minister Farrakan of the racist Black Moslems addressing him as a great leader. Obama has not disavowed that position. Obama has never, never taken a real stand on anything controversial and has not given any specifics about what his plans would be as president. Now on top of that and your knowledge that he will not even salute the flag of this nation or recite the Pledge of Alligence now can you or anyone possibly think he could lead this nation anywhere but into a disasterous economy and eventual civil war. He is a Christian and an American in name only.....

I'd like to ask what is wrong with voting for a democrat?
Do you like bigger and more intrusive government? Do you like paying more and more taxes for social programs that do nothing but promote dependency rather than personal responsibility and independence? Do you favor abortion (especially partial-birth abortion)? Do you think it's Ok for homosexuals to have special rights above and beyond others' rights? Should we wave the white flag and surrender in Iraq?
If you answer yes to these questions you should vote for a democrat.

Obama is ranked as the number one most liberal senator in the senate Mrs. Clinton was ranked only number 12. Both are socialist believing in the re-distribution of wealth except for theirs of course. Can you name one, just one idea he has expressed that was accompanied by a detailed plan for execution. Even his plan for immediate withdrawal from Iraq has no plan with it. As for withdrawal has it been so long ago that no one remembers what happened with the withdrawal from Viet Nam. Can you not remember the thousands trying to get on the helicopeters to go to the ships, or the helicopters being pushed overboard once on the ships to make room for the people? Can you not remember the killing fields and the millions that were murdered
because of supposed being friendly toward Americans. Obama is a Chicago punk not because he ic black but because of a couple dozen other things.

9:23,

That ranking came from the National Journal one of the most uber-conservative publications in the country. But I am sure their not biased at all.

5:10,

There was a time (late 19th and early 20th century) that those in the KKK and other racist organizations were Democrats, at least Southern Democrats. The party shifted in the 1960s and a Southern Democrat, Lyndon Johnson of Texas, helped push through the Civil Rights Amendment in 1964. Since then the Democratic Party as been associated with more liberal politics and friend of the African-American.

Personally I do not vote along party lines. I voted for George W twice only because the Dems couldn't put anyone up that I could have voted for. There was no way I could have voted for Gore or Kerry and there is no way I will vote for Clinton this year. I think Obama is different. I don't think he has been poisoned, or is a least less poisoned, by the Washington process of politics. I like his ideas about ethical accountability in Washington. I definitely believe that the War in Iraq was a bad idea and we should get out of that mess ASAP. I really hate when lies and urban legends so permeate the minds of people. Don't believe what your cousin sent you in an e-mail. Investigate for yourself, know the facts, go to the polls, VOTE OR SHUT UP!!

Cudos to you for your refusing to vote for hillary rodham clinton. But i would disagree with you about the democrats being the champion of the oppressed and the poor. It is commendable that LBJ signed the Act, and I am a conservative who knows that all men should be free. I also believe that all men have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Having said that, I strongly believe that such freedoms come with a price tag. That is, a man should work for his bread and accept personal responsibility for his actions and choices. Those concepts seem to clash severely with modern-day democrat principles. Instead of encouraging man to get off his rump and become personally responsible, they keep promising minorities more social programs and entitlements. They throw them an occasional bone to get their vote and have the nerve to tell them how much they care. And, out of that same liberal mouth comes the tired mantra that Republicans are racist and would have them all go back into slavery! That is a liberal LIE! But the sad thing is that so many minorities fall for it. Perhaps one day they will begin to listen to those like Allen Keyes and Lynn Swann instead of to men like Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton and finally realize how they have been used for votes. I hope to see the day when there will be this great awakening. I've seen some of it already. Great!

I have said for many years that there should be enough Christians and veterans out there who would vote and, in so doing, prevent leftist liberals from gaining positions of power in our country. But sadly, that's not the case.
I have seen clinton/gore and kerry edwards bumper stickers on cars at the church where I attend. How can this be? I'm sure there will be clinton or obama bumper stickers this time. I don't understand that. How can people who claim to know what the Bible teaches about the shedding innocent blood and homosexuality vote for politicians who both believe in and promote such things? I've heard them say that they do not believe in homosexuality and killing babies and that, since they are not directly involved in those things, they are not held accountable. Isn't that a bit inconsistent with what the Bible teaches? If it's not, tell me why not. I would like a liberal to explain that to me.

It seems that some mistake homophobia and racism for Christian ideals. Some folks need to reread their Bibles. There are only a handful of Scriptures that speak to homosexuality and none that speak to abortion specifically (not that I am saying its right or good) and over 1,000 that speak to helping the poor. If the so called Christian right would focus its vast resources to solving the problem of poverty it there would be a lot less poor people in the world. We must remember that morality is not based on two issues, but on a myriad of problems and issues that have been ignored by the Religious Right.

The only free thing about this election is the ability to vote for nothing. Come to think about it, it's a good deal - you will be voting for noting in the financial and literal sense of it. Nothing given, nothing worthwhile elected, nothing received, regardless how you vote ... maybe.

Then comes later, after you are allowed to vote, your coupon book will arrive, and the payments begin - taxes & instructions, taxes & instructions, more taxes & instructions

I'll not ask who you voted for, because that's none of my business. But would you agree with me that there SHOULD be enough Christians in this country to elect a man like Mike Huckabee in a landslide? Do you think he is the closest candidate to what Christian peole believe? It's sad that this is not the case. It tells me that things like homosexuality and the slaughter of unborn children are not important to many many people who profess Christianity. I think that's a rotten shame.
Here's a big question for you.
Do you really think our country is socialist? It's certainly headed in that direction with people like clinton in the picture, but I don't think its gotten there yet.

To Anonymous of the 6 Feb 5:13 post.
My first choice was Duncan Hunter then Fred Thompson finally Romney. The choices just keep getting worse and worse and my nose still hurts from holding it while I voted.
I agree there should be enough Christians voting to prevent baby killing perverts from ever even being considered for any elected office. I would hope that they would not only be Christians but also conservative patriots as well thus Gov. Huckabee wouldn’t be considered any more electable than a purple chicken. While Gov. Huckabee is very much against abortion and homosexual marriage he is just as much for open borders, bigger government and more taxes are the way to solve all problems. He doesn’t have a clue about the needs of the military and how to win in Iraq or anywhere else.
As far as the country being socialist, I think we have moved closer and closer since LBJ decided a trillion dollars would wipe out poverty. It didn’t and it never will. As long as people believe they have all rights and no responsibility that they are owed a life of luxury without having to work for it they will continue to increase and vote for the person who promises them the most for the least effort. That’s why in this election you have two outright socialist and one qusi-socialist as the front runners. I agree we’re not there yet but with a liberal congress and liberal president we’ll be there before the end of their terms. Allen Barrett

Well, would you rathrr hillary and bill clinton be back in the White House? I'm sure you wouldn't like that one bit. Neither would I. But it just amazes me to no end to think that there SHOULD be enough Christian people in this country to prevent the pro-abortion and pro-homozexuality candidates from ever gaining power. I suppose those issues don't really matter to a lot of Christians. I often wonder if they cut those scriptures out of their Bibles that CLEARLY teach that those things are an abomination to God. Oh well.
I realize that our house and senate have both become liberal, and that is distressing. But surely, thinking people will eventually step up and live by the principles they claim to believe.
You know, I once heard Neil Bortz make a really good argument that stupid people should not be allowed to vote. I'm not sure how that could be "policed". but it doesn't sound like a bad idea, does it? Would you agree that its the democrats who keep promising more and more to people who are being duped for their votes?

The founding fathers did not separate religion from politics like the liberals try to do. Our nation was built on religious principles. To ignore that leaves us open to all the mess that goes on today. A good example would be a general lack of morality in this country. I don't see how we can avoid religious principles. Oh, but the liberal doesn't like that. I forgot.

good point 11:39. As you stated,"Our nation was built on religious principles" which is true - BUT - it was most definitely was NOT built on a particular religion's priciples.

Nobody (certainly not I) said it was built on a specific religion. Where on earth did you get that?

Anon07, 2008 3:09 - Sorry, didn't mean to insinuate that you said that. As we all know, nearly all religions have evolved over the past , oh lets pick a reasonable time frame - say 50,000 / 100,000 years or so - with a lot dying out and a lot springing up. Just wanted to state the point, because there seem to be a lot of folks on here that think there is only one religion.

That's true. And there are also those on here who think they alone have the truth and the gospel on any given subject. And woe unto anyone who disagrees with them.

Yep, they retaliate by name-calling and saying whatever they think will embarrass them on this blog. It's really hard to know what a person with a dangerous mind might do.

I do not understand how anyone could even consider voting for a person to be president that will not even salute the flag of this nation.

I agree. But I also find it hard to believe that anyone could vote for a politician who is in favor of killing babies if the mother so chooses and for homosexual rights not already guaranteed ever American. I am especially amazed that church-going people could do that!

Has anybody ever noticed that the lady reporter from the newspaper does not salute the flag not pledge? What is her problem, religious belief or what?

Can someone please tell me one accomplishment Barak Hussain Obama has made that qualifies him to be president of anything.
Today his wife made this statement in a speech, “Hope is making a comeback and, let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country."
How can anyone be considered a leader for this country when it's taken this long to find anything to feel proud about? He also has refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance or salute the American Flag, and this is what wants to be president? Allen Barrett

The saddest reality of them all is that people largely just don't care about things like the murder of innocent babies and special rights for homosexuals. But what truly amazes me is that democrats vow to raise taxes and the same group of people don't seem to mind that either! Go figure.

What effect do you think Ralph Nader will have on the election, since he announced his candidacy?
