The Election Isn’t Over Yet!!

Five people are seeking to be elected to the Pulaski City Board of Aldermen they are the incumbents Mr. James Gentry, Mr. Jeff Hatfield and Mrs. Vickie Harwell and the challengers Mr. Colby Baddour and Mr. Robert E. Lee Jr.

Three people are seeking the unexpired term of the late 2nd District Commissioner Terry Hughes. They are Mr. Mike Goode, Mr. Wayne Hutton and Mr. Tommy Pope.

As Mike Goode is director of E911, if he gets elected wouldn't he be voting directly for his own salary and department. Kinda like Bill Holt and Rose Brown etc but theirs aint a direct vote.

Goode should not be qualified to be a commissioner unless he resigns from the e-911 board. E-911 is a contract and as such would prevent Mr. Goode from holding both offices.

I guess Mike Goode can be a Commissioner. He's goode at screwing people. Ask Pat at 911 whose daughter was very involved with Goode.

Why did Mike's former wife leave?

Anyway, he's from Minor Hill and would make a goode partner with Stoney Jackson.

I worked with Mike Goode on budgeting and administrative issues when he was commissioner before. He was a great commissioner who cared about the issues. He was always very knowledgeable, and would openly state his opinion where most of the other commissioners would say one thing and do another.

I do not understand why anyone would feel that his position would be any different from any other county employee holding a commissioner's seat. Last time I looked we have quite a few employees on the commission. Be real careful or we might be paying out on another decrimination suit.

By the way...I know for a fact that Mike & Stoney are not that close.

Wayne Hutton and Tommy Pope are both as radical as they come. They are negative to everything.

As far as Tommy Pope is concerned he can't even manage his own money.
He has left numerous people holding the bag, and refused to pay his bills.

Wayne Hutton is just a arrogant A_ _! Who can't get along with anyone.

Difference between Goode and people like Rose Brown and Bill Holt is that Goode is director of E911. I think he even signed the E911 contract between that group and the county. He would be voting directly to benefit himself. People dont like the Brown/Holt deal but at least they vote on the schools budget as a package.

Don't know Bill Holt personally, but would vouch for Rose's integrity anytime. Just because you don't agree with someone's opinion, that doesn't make them wrong or crooked. Sometime's people just see things differently. Please tell me of at least one concrete instance that Mrs. Brown acted or voted in a way that was underhanded. Not opinion, please, just facts. I truly would like to know, as I am an "outsider" and don't know any of our county official's distant past. I only can speak from what I have seen in the recent history. I am very sincere, would like to know the TRUE FACTUAL story.

Because a person doesn't vote with the interest of the county foremost in their mind doesn't make them voting underhanded.
The law requires that every conflict of interest or potential conflict "must" be preceded by a statement divulging that conflict, when that is not done it becomes an underhanded vote especially when the vote is in favor of a matter that puts money in your pocket.

Is that an example? I do not recall a time when Mrs. Brown, during a commission mtg., voted to give either commissioners or supervisors at the BOE a raise. I don't remember any BOE employees being offered a raise during the time that Mrs. Brown has served on the commission. I may have missed it, but I try to attend a lot of the meetings. I can see where voting ONLY supervisors a raise would be a conflict of interest, but if she were voting for a raise for ALL of the several hundred people who work for the schools, I think that would be an honorable thing. She knows how hard they all work, firsthand.Personally, I wish more school employees would seek public office. I'm tired of people who have never worked with children, making arbitrary, irrational, and ludicrous rules and laws that do nothing more than create mountains of redundant paperwork and create situations that subtract from quality instructional time. I've actually had to sub for teachers, not because they were sick, but because they had to go to meetings....I still would still like a SPECIFIC example of Rose's underhanded voting.

How about the fact she voted for a raise for commissioners to attend meetings when they aren't members of that committee and has benefited from that vote.

Here's something for you to chew on. Rose Brown and Bill Holt are paid salary from the county. Then when they attend meetings on school time, they dip their hands in again when they take the county pay for attending meetings. Ain't that known as double dippin'? (Or underhanded)

I can assure you than Holt and Brown both works to make up for that time they spend at commission meetings. They works nights and weekends too. None of the supervisor work ONLY the required amount of time. Have you ever ridden by the hill at 4 and noticed how many cars are still there? The same is true for principals they work many more than the required hours.

I am the blogger who posted that Mike Goode is not any different from any other person who would be a commissioner and is also a county employee.

Every commissioner has one vote. Mike or no other commissioner who is a county employee or has a family connection with county government can vote single handed a raise or make decisions based on their opinion or vote only. This to me takes care of the problem of conflict of interest.

However, if this is a problem for Mike, I feel that he could, along with every other employee that has a connection with a particular department, not vote on the issues that face the department. Example,
School Employees who vote on BOE issues pertaining to raises. I don't necessarily agree with this but I do feel like the two issues are the same. If a % raise is voted in for county employees, every county employee receives this raise, including teachers, principal, supervisors, administrative employees. So unless the vote of the commission voted Mike in a individual raise..he cannnot do it on his own.

This argument is ridiculous. Apparently, the people that are so single minded on this issue have no concept of COUNTY GOVERNMENT. A commissioner cannot mandate issues by himself...it takes 2/3 of the whole commission.

I feel the need to make a clarification to the following statement:
If a % raise is voted in for county employees, every county employee receives this raise, including teachers, principal, supervisors, administrative employees.
When the county commission votes to give the "county employees" a raise the teachers, principals, supervisors and administrative employees are not included in that raise. The above mentioned employees are actually "state employees" thus they are not included in the "blanket" statement of all county employees. I just wanted to clear up a misconception. By the way, this is complete fact. The county only funds roughly 1/4 of an educators salary, the state funds the remainder.

Sunday, August 31, 2008 4:23:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

While no single member of the commission can single handed vote himself a raise they certainly can by virtue of committees control and unduly influence a vote on any matter before that committee. We have seen instances where the chairman has prevented any discussion of an issue and demanded a vote. With the County Executive and Bill Holt appointing the committees and Vanzant hand picking Goode as her man nothing good can come out of this.
Please explain how a commissioner can not enter into a contract with the county to provide materials or labor but a person who chairs a contracted business can be a commissioner. This will lead to another unnecessary law suit.

I would like to clarify what 4:23 tried to clarify. They are right about teachers, supervisors and administrators, they are considered state employees. The other employees are considered school employees, their salaries are paid strictly from county school funds. The teacher's union does not negotiate raises or anything else for them. They are at the mercy of the director for raises. They don't get raises strictly when teachers do and they are not affected at all by county raises. They do get step raises.

No you are incorrect by saying the non-certified employees are at the mercy of the director. They are at the mercy of the school board. The school board has the power to give the association the power to negotiate for the employees, they have been asked to allow it and the board (or their team) has said no. The director may be the one saying no, but it is the place of the board to be the one answering the question. The board is the governing body that is supposed to be in charge, the director works for the board not the other way around.

Monday, September 01, 2008 11:14:00 AM

Has anyone ever come to a meeting and suggested to the board that the union be allowed to negotiate for them? I've never heard of it. Do non-certified employees belong to the union, if so why if the union does nothing for them.

Monday, September 01, 2008 3:57:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes the association has asked repeatedly and the board (again I should say the board's team) has said no. I association does work for all members, many times it is behind the scenes. Have you ever attended a negotiation meeting? That is where the question has been asked. It is up to the board's team to bring the issue to the board.

Monday, September 01, 2008 7:18:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That is not true. You can come to a meeting and ask for your 3 minutes and bring it up yourselves. Do you think the board has any clue what is said in negotiations? They don't, most work and can't come to a negotiation meeting during the day. Have you asked for a meeting at night and sent invitations to board members? I suggest you try. Don't run it through the board negotiators or through Jackson first.

There is no longer an opportunity for the public or school employee to come to a board meeting and have three minutes to state their concerns.
Now you must submit a written request, announce the topic on the agenda you wish to address and have it in the directors hand before the agenda is even made out. The board in an undisclosed meeting approved this action???????? It was not included in the actual updated manual but added later by some unknown person. Ask any board member when they discussed this matter, when they voted on it and when it was approved, no one can give any specifics, like magic it just appeared in the book. Allen Barrett

Aren't these some of the "tyrants" whom malcontents seek to destroy and humiliate? Perhaps the ones who need to be gotten rid of are the very ones who are doing the complaining?
Here's a suggestion for them. They could pool their assers and buy a large parcel of land outside the city. Having done that, they could give that county a name. Let's see; how about Barrett County? Then he could be their mayor and his elect could be "in charge" of everything else. Just a suggestion.

To anonymous of a number of posts most all of which center around the same problem in communication.
Over and over people have tried to explain the need or desire to have you back up your statements with something more than your feelings or unsubstantiated thoughts.
People, including me, react to you many times out of frustration. not the frustration of being unable to contend with your point of view but with your hard-headed attitude that you are right and they are wrong even though you offer nothing in support of your arguments. If you want people to take what you say seriously then
please offer something more than your feelings in support of your positions.
I have no problem with you disagreeing with me I would just like something more than your feelings or thoughts used to support your feelings and thoughts. Many times I have given you facts and evidence on matters only to have you disregard them and attack my motive, of which you haven't a clue. You accuse me of arrogance and an attitude of infallibility among other things
but many after examining your post see those are the characteristic most seen in you. I do not claim to know your motives yet you loudly declare knowing mind... but based on what? Nothing more than just your thoughts can you honestly say that is not the pinnacle of arrogance, claiming to know the mind and reason of another without the benefit of even so much as having sat down to a conversation with them?

wab..
I don't know how to make my bone of contention with you any plainer.
I have told you many times that I don't care what your truths are or whether you are right and someone else is wrong. The problem is the WAY YOU TALK TO THOSE WHO DO NOT AGREE WITH YOU! Please write that down if you can't remember it. Surely you are smarter than that.

709 is all puffed up like a toad cause someone knows where the old home place is in the dessert (someone else's pie) or was that desert (an appropriate hot arid place with little more than hot air). I'd suggest a lobotomy, but everything above the neck is either fried or clogged with pcp.

You really ought to consider donating yourself to a psychiatric medical school. (missing link?)

You are not worthy of sane comment, & will get none. People provide documentation & proof publicly for idiots like you, to try to raise your IQ to a level that you won't drown during the next rain shower - looking up to see where the rain came from, how it got there, where it goes when it disappears in the sand, & why you can't breath as long as your stupid head is tilted back with mouth open! Your mother probably taught you to say it never rained when it stopped raining! I can see your tombstone - "dumb ass drowned in a rain shower - mother says it wasn't the rain, cause she souldn't see it when they found you."

Excuse me, but my post was directed at wab and not to you. And your suggestion that a lobotomy might be in order is just typical of you guys who apparently love to talk down to people you differ with.
Since we are making suggestions now, I'd suggest for you a hemmorhoidectomy performed via your throat and nasal passages. Wouldn't that be fun?
And "people like you" can call me nasty names all you want, but it will NEVER stop me from pointing out the hypocrisy of "we are free to speak our minds as long as we agree with you"! That will never do. What gives "people like you" the right to assume such superiority? So please don't even try to talk to me about arrogance. By the way, we who are inferior can get hopping mad too! I'm there!
Let me ask you a question or two since you responded to someone else's mail. Do you not see where all this anger, resentment, and trouble came from? And please don't say it's because our elected officials are a bunch of crooks. Have you not lived here long enough to understand that all this contention and strife started just a few short years ago? Could you not even consider that just one angry and resentful man who is politically impotent may very well be the root cause? I simply throw these questions out for consideration. Have a wonderful evening.

628 Dear "we who are inferior too..." Apparently you went to a proctologist for a headache & they rammed their arm all the way up to the imagined problem, found your nose, thought it was a malignant polyp, tugged too hard on it to pull it out & walaaa, turned you inside out. Now your butt is where your head used to be & your head is so far up the butt, it's hanging out the other end where the other parts should be. Don't feel guilty about being inferior, you're just upside down and inside out. It's a condition common to those rare cases where someone was raised in a VW bus in the desert, with the windows rolled up, in a hippie commune. We love you, just can't understand your mumblings, cause they, like you are upside down & inside out.

You might look for a nose & throat specialist to probe around one end or the other to see if they can turn you downside up & outside in again. Aint life great - why dont you try & get one

WAB & the troublemakers are politically impotent????????

$1.5 million in roperty tax increases were denied for 2006 Another $2.5+ was denied for 2007 = $4 you didn't get --- & more for 2008 & more for 2009!!!

Property taxes would have increased by $5.3 million in three years of 2005-6-7. That would have been 113%!!! In spite of all that school spending increased almost three time the inflation rate! Less but still too much for 2008 & 9. You're running out of rope & the end is near. It's been on the blog - can't you read?

That happened because the people are fed up. The council changed!
Gonzales is GONE. The school board has changed. Norman is out of the picture & a woman with a brain is in! Financial management is in - being messed with by your friends, but will survive in the end!

You have absorbed nothing because your mission is disinformation & confusion.

Your questions are as irrelevant as you are. I think the 6:47 message has your number on it.

Ridicule WAB & others all you please - maybe you'll get some free meals & an orange jumpsuit as your ultimate reward for what you do. Lot's bigger fish than you have been fried.

8:25 My God, you people are gullible, stupid and mislead. You would probably follow these people you mentioned into a ball of fire.

A woman with a brain? The woman you speak of is one of the most dispicable people on the planet. Do you honestly believe that these things would have passed without WAB. He is one of the biggest troublemakers ever to walk the face of the earth, and he is hurting this county badly. There are MUCH better ways to resolve disagreements, but he needs to feed his ego. People, dumb people, like you are promoting this BAD behaviour. I'm not saying that he doesn't mean well, he just doesn't know how to go about it!

Thank you so much for your post. The pious one will have to admit that there are others around here besides me who see another side of him. I suppose your post proves that there are indeed other "irrelevant" people here besides me. Laughing.
I totally agree with your post. But, expect to be ridiculed and called nasty names for voicing your opinion. It's just what these people do if you take them to task.
I would still like one of them to answer ALL of the questions posed on 9-21 at 7:53 pm.

To answer your question 10:42.
There is never any resistance when going with the flow of a stream, it's when you stand up and begin to go upstream that the water gets disturbed.
For years and years people just took what was given them shuffled their feet said yessir and went off biting their tongue. When Barrett and Winkles defied the powers that be by refusing to shut up and take it they showed the people there was no reason to fear
that it was time to stand up and take a stand that's the difference in them and you they are men of responsibility while you are still a fearful child whining because the wheel came off your gravy train. I say hooray for Barrett, Winkles and the many others who have taken a stand and helped improve the situation in Giles County for the all the people not just the elite. If you had any sense you'd be thinking them too instead of continuing to suck up to the Vanzants, Spears and Jackson who are draining the very life blood out of this county.

904 & 1022 No one disagrees with "when the trouble started" - 4 years ago - 2004-5 budget fiasco? A change for the worse begot many changes for the better & your being on the side of "for worse" says things look very bad for the bad (you)! You're out now & will go down before it's over.

What part of the 825 facts do you not understand? Is it ok to steal "for the children" when they already have more than enough according to state guidelines? There just isn't & never will be enough for you to skim and pilfer at the expense of the children & those truly dedicated to the children. People are being informed & are tossing you & yours out of office & positions of authority. You wanted the vote - you see it toss you & yours out - what are you going to demand when you get prosecuted. Prosecutors who fail to prosecute can be replaced, too.

You understand & see great troubles ahead for your corruption! WAB & the trouble makers are making trouble for "trouble" & what could be better? Squeel on fat pig - as long as you are on the run, things look good.

You are so profoundly ignorant if you think I am an elected official who would lowerhimself/herself to arguing with you people. Those individuals have a little more class than to do that.

Now there's an idea worth consideration. Let's have a class. You guys who are smarter than the rest of us can be "in charge" and teach us how best we can live our lives here in this cesspool of corruption and vice known as Giles County. It just makes sense to have the class since you guys assume we can't think for ourselves.

The class has been in session for a couple of years now and you keep getting marked absent, that's why you haven't learned anything and don't even know the class is meeting. You can not get an education through osmosis. Simply putting your head on a book will not transfer what's in the book into your head, there must be some energy expended and that's where you keep falling way short.

Now why would I expect an immature response from you? I suggested we have a class in which you smart people could finally be "in charge" of something, and you have to pop off with another asinine remark. Perhaps you should be one of the students?

Madam, using the word as seen fit, when you go to the out house, you're supposed to sit, not poke your head in the hole to get high. Got you head stuck & don't know how to pull it out???

You've got to start out with some common sense, then how to make the mouth flap later.

Same old silly and childish whimpering. You remind me of the little boy who couldn't win at marbles, so he took his and went home to pout. How's that for an allegory?

If they were his marbles why shouldn't he be able to do with them whatever he chose. Your response is so typical of liberals; individual property should only be used for the benefit of others than the owner.

You missed the point completely. Certainly he should be able to take his marbles and go home...and even pout if he so chooses. But how is that related to angry people who have no power?
