Nepotism is alive and well in Giles County !!!!!

With the appointment of former deputy Dustin Sigmon to a job in the Clerk & Master's office there seems to be no shortage of jobs for those with family in county and city government.

There are a couple of questions that need to be answered about this appointment.
1. Was this job position posted and advertised so other people might have the opportunity to apply and be considered? If it was not advertised can there be any assurance the best qualified person is now in the job?
2. What are the qualification for this position and were those qualifications met or exceeded by Mr. Sigmon?

There are way too many people working in our (the Taxpayers) Giles Courthouse offices and here's just one more case where a family member is taken care of whether qualified or not. And you are right WAB, why aren't these positions being advertised and give other persons who might really need a job a chance for a job at the Courthouse. Giles Countians wake up. Even though we may not can do anything about this particular case, we can vote out the officials that can, like the Judges who appoints the Chancery Court Clerk for the reason of unfair hiring practices.

Did someone retire or quit or did they just make a job for this man?

Giles County can ask the Federal Government for a bail out.
No matter what they aren't going to tighten their belt.

Wow! Yet another negative thread. Why am I not surprised?
Let's be sure to make a concerted effort to humiliate and malign anyone we dislike or resent.

5:33 There you go again, missing the point. It's not a matter of liking or disliking or resenting any one individual. The point is---unless you are a family member of a courthouse employee you don't stand much of a chance of getting hired for a job in the courthouse. The jobs should be advertised, applications taken, qualifications taken into consideration.

Could momma be teaching her boy to fill her shoes when she surely soon retires? Why else would you leave a deputy job to be a pencil pusher.

Ain't this the same job his wife had before moving to the finance office and an even bigger salary. By the way I understand from a question that was asked of mRs Garner Mrs Sigmon still ain't a CPA but drawing CPA pay.

You people should be ashamed of yourselves. You can't talk about the issues without running someone's name in the mud. The Sigmons are a good, Christian, church going family. I don't know how Dustin got the job. Why not ask instead of making a target out of the family? That would be too easy and not nearly as fun. You people make me sick.

911 & 1017 - read the thread - it asks your question - it's a legitimate question!

The jackson remark is valid - isn't the lady the same one who doctored the budget requests to make it look like jackson's tax demands were legitimate? 1) If she is, she should be disqualified to be a CPA. 2) If she isn't a CPA, she's a clerk! 3) The county work environment would never qualify CPA internship! Is there no rational basis fo hiring and salary determination? Don't know the people & certainly know nothing bad. Hoever, if they're serving rotton fish, count me out!

I don't know much other than the budgets have been cooked! I can read & see. Need someone familiar with it to give some facts instead of BS.

curious

Just because someone attends church every Sunday does not make a "good Christian". Its behavior that counts whether you are a church goer or not. Let's keep the church out of this. Are we not talking about ethics here.

The question is about behavior issues & the issues are ethics and morality. Is Ms Beth the one who fixed the budget for jackson? Its for sure he would have someone else do his dirty work & let them get blamed for it. No professional accountant (especially a cpa) would fix the numbers to screw the citizens.

Sure sounds like Ms. S used her office for personal gain if what is noted is right.

Is it totally naive of me to say that Pulaski is a small town and that if the city was only going to hire unrelated people, there would only be about ten employees total?

No, I don't think you're nearly as naive as you are negative toward those you resent. Think about it.

The highway to hell is filled with temptations. Wishes for a good steady job to feed the family & get a piece of the American dream requires an opportunity to compete & work at doing the best job. So you do, you get a break, life gets better & better. You become a real good person, charitable, kind, & thoughtful.

Along the way, reproducion occurs & the result is a carbon copy of the original, but can't seem to find first base. The copy holds the silver spoon, but finds no place to use it. And so, opportunity comes. Will the clone who can't find its way wait until the light comes on or will those who have the light have to wait for another time?

The answer may be as simple as not telling everyone about the opportunity. The cost is lost oportunity for the deserving and lost performance for someone who can't perform.

This post is for Circuit Court Clerk Crystal Greene to reply to:

How much does your daughter and deputy clerk Karen Young's daughter make when they fill in and do part time work in the Circuit Court Clerk's office? Why aren't these positions advertised or posted? This has been going on for quite some time, and I know this for a fact.

Very disappointed to hear this about Crystal Greene. She will NOT get my vote next time. We badly need new people to run for these offices. (To the person whose response will immediately be "why dont you run if you think you can do better") my answer is, I already have a good job , happy in it and thankful to have it. Would love to see some of the local men who might be out of work or needing better paying jobs to run for some of these county offices.

I posted the remark about Crystal. Relax people, before you think I'm slamming her, hear me out. Crystal is a nice lady and does a super job as Circuit Court Clerk. I voted for her before and will vote for her again. I guess instead of posting the comment I should just go to her face to face and ask about these part time or "fill in" positions and why her daughter and Karen's are allowed to work in there. Possibly she doesn't have to advertise these positions and can get whomever she wants to work or fill in.

You are probably right in that the woman can hire who she wants to, but wouldnt it be ethical not to hire your own. How different is this from the Sigmon hiring.

It's not any different because the way I feel is that while these girls are working there during the summer there are other people out there that have no job and are looking and can't get their foot in the door because of things like this. People with families to feed.

This is regarding the comment towards Crystal's daughter working at the courthouse. I see her daughter working at Sunshine Cleaners every time I pick up my dry cleaning. I know "for a fact" her daughter isn't working for her. Get facts straight before bashing someone.

I said Crystal's daughter has worked for her as a "fill in" and "part time" employee. I did not say she worked for her as a full time employee. I know for A FACT she has worked for her in the past because I have worked in the courthouse alongside them. I'm not bashing her or her daughter, so get YOUR facts straight first, would you?

I personally think it's ridiculous you sit around on your computer all day talking about people who have personally done nothing to you. Apparently if you're so concerned with not having a job and Crystal not having the open position publicized then your not looking hard enough for a job.
