Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Disconnection From Pulaski Electric Service

This was a matter discussed in the Power Board Meeting. I have placed it on a separate thread because it may have separate concerns that need discussion.

Over the last few months the average number of homes disconnected from service by PES each month has been 200. The reconnection fee has been $50.00 that is now changed to $35.00.

While I welcome this reduction as a benefit not only to individual households it will benefit those churches and organizations who are trying to help keep the power flowing to those homes.
It was expressed by Mr. Kelly that many of those who get disconnected come the next day to be reconnected. I spoke with Mr. Kelly about the possibility and what would be involved with notifying these customers that were about to be cut off the day before termination of services. I was told that many of those who have service terminated are repeats and if they are in the system as habitual they are not notified but efforts are made to notify all others before termination of service.

Sound like a sound, logical approach to a continuing problem.

Light company has to have late fees and reconnect fees to stay afloat.

How about getting back to basics here. These people should pay their bills when they are due. I know some are having hard times and my heart goes out to them. But have they cut out all those unneccessary items we routinely purchase? junk food, beer, cigs. Have they stopped having children that they cannot afford to raise? In my veiw, the amount for reconnection is non-issue. The issue should be living beyond our means and learning to pay or bills in a timely manner. I, as a taxpayer, am tired of people looking for handouts. Times are tough all over and we need to all cut corners

A cynical point of view. Get real to the poverty in Giles county and have a little heart (if its possible in your case).

nothing cynical here. Kids are raising kids while there are no jobs in the county which causes poverty. Our population is decreasing due to the fact that there are no jobs here. Poverty is what it is. We all are faced with choices in life and can accomplish anything we want if we try. People that lose their houses six months after purchase should not have purchased a house. People with no savings should not have children until they can support them which means working hard and having a plan. The only people that should be subsidized are the elderly (they have paid their dues) and the handicapped. (truly handicapped, not people that claim carple tunnel or random back pain) lets face it we all have some amount of pain in our bodies and life but it should not keep us from moving forward and being contributing members of society.

I am one that has always paid my bills on time until recently when we had a layoff in the family. We had to cut out a lot of things to make ends meet and sometimes that is not enough, but I do know all you have to do is call the PES about your bill and they will let you know what is the last day you have to pay your bill before they cut off your electric. There is a couple of dollars extra you have to pay for it being late, but I rather pay that than $50.00. You may have to let some stuff go or ask a friend or family member for help. Today utilities, food, clothing, and roof over our heads are what we need, but the most thing we need is the Lord. Ask him for guidance and he will provide. I am someone that knows this for a fact.

3:27 You must live in a perfect world. Still believe you are greatly lacking in compassion for your fellow man. Dont ya listen to your preacher?

The utility has a free ride on the late stuff. People pay a deposit & that should carry a person for at least 30 days like every other business. If a person goes on vacation, they often get hit with the late penalty because they're gone when the bill comes & still gone past the due date. People often mistake the gross amount for the net & get overcharged when they aren't late. It's a racket!

rollback on the reconnect sounds like a good step forward. Chalk one up for WAB & the especially the people who made a difference!- make that chalk one up for PES too.

Everyone makes mistakes - sometimes it takes a boot in the rear end to gitr done but in the end anyone who bellys up & makes it right gets my resoect! I have never paid the fee, but thanks anyway - lots of people up against it & with no hope of a better life!

Look at the other extreme - The school system - 5 years of excuses & more shenanigans - never had the guts to face down a liar.

I totally agree with 1:08 and 3:27.
Stop having babies you can't afford...etc. I don't live in a perfect world, either, but these people continuing to have baby after baby bothers me.

I would like to know why sometimes the water pressure is so high it forces itself through every water spigot on the property, kitchen sink, bathroom sink, bathtub/shower, water hose spigot outside, including the toilet.

I think there's a faulty valve or gauge in the line somewhere.
