The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Say It Ain't So !!!!!

Please, someone tell me that the county has not purchased a vehicle for Mr. Strickland the Courthouse Custodian. Tell me this vehicle wasn't purchased without the bid process being followed. Tell me that this wasn't done without the County Commissioners knowledge and approval. Tell me the County is not buying the gas for this vehicle. Tell me the Courthouse with it's leaking faucets and continually running toilets has reached a state of repair that Mr. Strickland's time can be better spent riding around town, delivering mail, meals and visiting the bench at Wal-Mart. What no one can tell me those things, shocking.

I guess you don't mind that the County just spends, spends and spends. Damn ... I didn't know we were so rich and that we currently have a balanced budget. Tell you what 3:38 when the Commission votes in November to raise taxes I hope you are there to thank them and shake their hands.

If you are si rich you can afford it, how about giving the county some extra money.

I believe my question was addressed to the troublemaker and not to you? If he wants to know about the truck, why didn't he simply call and ask? He didn't need to stir up trouble where probably non exists...as usual.
I'm wondering if barrett will delete your post since you were sursing. Or will he leave it since someone other than you has read it? What a laugh.

If Mr. Barrett wants to delete my post I sure want get my pants in a wad over it.

I did mistype as you often do. si should of been so.

Does it upset you to see people miles away from Giles County see how you act?

No, what bothers me, other than the fact that wab isn't moving yet, is the fact that other counties laugh at Giles County for all the whining and fussing going on here.

You know, when Mr. Strickland got that job, it was not posted - I called & asked why it had not been AND THEN it was posted - after he was already there. As I remember, he did not even meet the requirements of the job.

I am NOT surprised he now has a vehicle to go with the job.

Something was said at the time about someone he used to date who worked at the courthouse.......

Who authorized the purchase of the vehicle? It had to be paid through Ms. Gardner's office and she works for Mrs. Vanzant..Right?

If the Commissioners did not authorize this expense will they demand that the vehicle be returned? I doubt it.

Well he used to cut the grass at the post office until WAB exposed him. Now he delivers mail at the courthouse, guess he just can't get away from the post office. There is a lot of time seating at at Wal-Mart with other retired guys.
Most of the time he's being outworked by Missouri whose only about 80 year old.

Rather than to let barrett stir up more trouble, whu don't you go ask someone. Might I suggest Roger?
When will you folks who idolize allen barrett realize that he is a troublemaker? He loves to get something started and then watch the fireworks. It's just a shame.

Look I saw Roger Strickland a number of times cutting the grass at the post office and it wasn't during lunch or vacation time off it was in the middle of his supposed to be working time. At least two times I know he had told people he was getting supplies at walmart but he went straight to the post office and cut the grass now that I saw with my own eyes and it didn't have nothing to do with Mr Barrett or wab are anybody else. If he wasn't doing it on county time why did he stop?

Who claimed that barrett is the cause of every problem in the county? Who said things were perfect here before he came? I'm afraid those are your words.
I think a point you and his other few supporters are missing is that Giles County did not have the degree of division, distrust, and strife that has come as a result (my opinion) of his continually trying to stir up trouble.
You don't have to like what I said, but you would definitely be in the minority if you disagree. Don't take my word for it. Just go ask around the town or the county.

GTC says:

October 19 at 9:10 You say that Roger Strickland was hired without announcing the position. Well .....I really hate to pop your bubble and prove you wrong.

1) The job was posted
2) There was a 3-perosn committee, none were elected officials, who received all applications, reviewed the applications and selected three applicants to be interviewed.
3) the three applicants were interviewed and indipendently scored by the committee.
4) the scores were reviewed and the three applicants were rated.
5) #2 and #3 swapped their individual rankings and only the #1 person was rated as #1 by all on the committee.
6) That person was Roger Styrickland and the committee recommended that he be hired.

This entire process took well over 1 month. By the way go to the newspaper archives and you will find the advertisement. Published 3 times over three weeks.

It sure seems that I know alot about this and I am sure that you will want to contest my opinion. Go ahead; but, remember that I was on that committee and you werren't.

Excellent point 7:13.

Problem is 6:48 not only don't know what he has written he don't even know what he's saying when he is writing. How many times have we been told "you knew what I meant".
What Barrett has done is challenge those in control who have been abusing their positions for years, some just plain stealing their blotted salary. Barrett has been an encouragement for others to stand up and speak out even if anonymously and he has provided a way many can do that. The lies that are told are divisive and embarrassing when they are exposed and the liar is identified with no uncertainty. Those like 6:48 have no knowledge of the truth because they have closed their eyes for so long they are blinded by their friendships and own corruption.
Barrett is a very polarizing figure
but anyone who refuses to be silence in the face of corruption and wrong will be polarizing. I try to make my mind up based on the facts of a matter not on the gossip that travels like wildfire through the empty heads of fools sitting in the breakfast clubs each morning. Instead of relying on gossip try to do some research on your own and see what you see for what it is.

Please allow me to make a suggestion. Why not ask one or two simple questions in your poll or survey? Here are some possible questions?
1. Who is the biggest troublemaker Giles County has ever known.
2. Who is the most despised person in Giles County?

Do it. You don't have to mention barrett's name. The people being surveyed will do that for you.

Ok so I asked around the gossip circuit answer to number one was some guy named Boundurant with 6 votes; Dan Speer 4 votes followed by Stoney Jackson, Tommy Campbell and Janet Vanzant each with 2 votes. Barrett got only one vote.
Question two revealed a number of Mother in laws were the worst. Obama led the way as the individual most dispised followed by Pelosi. I had to mention Barrett's name to most people who didn't even know who he was but admitted having heard his name after told.
Guess you were just wrong again 6:34

No, I took my own poll around the county, and isn't it amazing how varied people's opinions are, depending on who you ask? Guess what? My results were quite different from yours. I was not surprised to find allen barrett leading the field as the top vote getter, and that's totally opposite from the way he did in each of his bids to become commissioner in 7th District.

Those who claimed that Barrett is the cause of every problem in the county are those that want to try and control the people of Giles county. The people of Giles that are controling are the ones that have super large families where they vote in the same clown because it is a relative. I remember there was a commissioner I understand couldn't even read. There are even people in Giles that brag because they have never been out of Giles. That is what we have voting in our goverment.
