Questions About Health Insurance For economic Development Director

I posted some basic but not highly detailed information about the expenses for the Economic Development Director and was basically called a liar and that the information I had posted was simply not true.
I will try to separate  some of the more obviously questionable expenses and include enough details to prove that everything I posted about those expenses was and is fully documented.
This post will deal with Health Insurance for Mr. Speer the Director.
The insurance is listed as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee.

Payment made 7/14/2011 - $874.31;  9/20/2011 - $874.31;  10/17/2011 - $874.31;  11/16/ 2011 - $874.31;  12/16/2011 - $873.31;  1/17/2012 - $876.93;  2/16/2012 - $974.74;  3/15/2012 - $950.36;
4/27/2012 - $950.36;
On a separate page one more check is made to Brenda Speer as "repay Brenda" account "Health Insurance.
This apparently is for the August 2011 premium as the check was made out on 9/20/2011 for $874.31.

It has been reported that these premiums will increase to over a thousand dollars a month with the beginning of the new fiscal year.

Questions:
1. Why is insurance being carried by a family member?
2. Was this insurance bid out or just given to this agent?
3. Why isn't the Director carried as an employee of the county or city and placed on their group insurance plans?
4. Is what seems like a blatant conflict of interest and expense of expense acceptable to taxpayers?

If these numbers are anywhere to being accurate, that means that we, the taxpayers, are pay over $10,400.00 per year for Dan Speer's health insurance. Because of the high cost, I am willing to bet that there is no deductable (or anyother out of pocket expense)for Dan Speer.

Questions I have are:
1- is this an individual policy, or family?

2- why isn't he carried on the City or County benifit program?

3- is he appreciating other City or County benifits? And, how much paid vacation is he allowed

What is the premium payment for each individual city employee and each county employee? Does city or county employees pay a portion towards their premium?

why is the insurance premium paid out of the EDC account and not deducted from his salary like it is for all the rest of us government employees. We have to pay for our own insurance and it is taken out of our checks every two weeks.

9:36 County employees pay zero toward their own insurance. They only pay the premium if they carry family members. Is that what you are talking about? For his own coverage. Speer also pays zero.

State employees have to pay for their individual coverage and their benefit package is no where near as sweet as the county's.

With the financial mess this county is in and which has been allowed to happen by each and everyone currently in county public office, would seem its time the commissioners pulled their socks up and stopped being buddy buddy with their friends employed by the county and start the employees paying towards their health insurance as do we all in the private sector. Enough is enough and if things dont change those currently in office had better be prepared for change when it comes to the ballot box.

I whole-heartedly agree, 12:50. I think enough perks are given to county employees without leaving the silver spoon in their mouths.

Where did that come from? I wouldn't have any idea. Why don't you call the Chamber of Commerce and ask them? They will probably think your are a complete nut.
Oh, by the way, I would appreciate it if you would stop promoting the lie allen barrett told on me. He knows he lied, and so do you. That's right; he lied.

Yeah 11:22, you know he's not going to answer the question. You've posed it to him several times. He is an enabler of wrongdoings and lies, not a source for answers to legitimate questions. What were you thinking?

The only enablers I know of are people like you who keep promoting the lie allen barrett told on me. Sorry, but I told you I would mention the fact that allen barrett told that lie each and every time you promote it. Ok?
Is there an issue you would like to discuss? I gave you some suggestions. Oh, but you'd probably prefer taking cheap shots at me and trying to keep something stirred up against anyone you dislike or resent.

Without contacting the Chamber and asking the question, you are considered an 'outsider' unless you are born in Giles county. So even if you arrived here as a teenager, forget it until you marry, raise kids and die here you are still an 'outsider'. Your kids would be considered 'local' eventually and if born here, and when they run for office they can stand up and say 'my grandpappy, etc..... I was born and raised in a few Giles county' which would get them votes - maybe.

I failed to add about attending a commission board meeting - be sure to dose up an alergy medicine 'cos if you dare to cough in the meeting Vanzant is so paranoid she will rap the gavel, thinking you are mocking her, and she'll have you thrown out by one of the four deputies for disruping the meeting! No joke.

So how much tax payer money is going to Danny boy's pocket this year? I guess it is acceptable to use tax payer money as your own. My question is why have the commissioners done nothing?
