Has the Hospital Money Gone The Way of Other Vanishing County Money???

News from the Financial Management Committee held this morning. The are twelve unidentified applicants for the job of Financial Management Director. All twelve of these applicants are planned to be interviewed  next Thursday beginning at 9 AM in the courthouse annex.

The most revealing thing at the meeting this morning was being told by Commissioner Pope and Campbell that there is no more hospital funds and that the commissioners  no longer refer to the hospital funds they are now general funds. Of these general funds, that used to be hosp ital funds, nine million will be used to pay off two school bonds some invested with the interest used to buy new ambulances and fire trucks  and the rest will be used for general expenses. There are no plans currently to restore the "Hospital Funds" or reserves or  replace under any name. I guess when you spend more than a million each year over the budget it shouldn't take long to blow through that $15,000,000.00 wait they already siphoned off a million that was approved by the commission that leaves $14,000,000.00 no wait there was another million or so that was taken without approval so there is, truth of the matter is there is no telling what is left, but one thing is as sure as the nose on your face, there will be nothing left after the budget allergic spend happy folks that love the way things were done two hundred years ago get finished with it.

Well if you merge those hospital funds into
The general funds....it will obscure how fast and how much you spend, and everyone forgets then.

I'd say that's how it's been done for 200 years, but I'd hate to lump past administrations that had a greater sense of honor an duty with SOME of the ones we have now. See- we didn't need a charter afterall to change the director of schools---we just needed him to retire. Recon what his retirement package will cost?

All an all--good luck to him in his retirement, maybe he can relax a little.

Mrs. Vanzant doesn't need to resign. She doesn't plan to run again, but there will be a good candidate in place to run against whoever CAVE is behind. You can bet your bottom dollar on that.

Who made the decision to merge hospital funds into general funds...? I don't think that the original resolution will allow this to happen so easily! Did the commissioners vote this in? I have not heard of this being brought before the commission! Giles County is truly in a mess!!! Bring back Corky, Mark Dunavant, JD Woodard, Sam Collins, Judy Roberts and some of the people that held this county together!!! And to think that citizens use to give them h---!

The State cannot MAKE a county do anything with their own investments. They can provide an opinion to put the investment in a State pool and that's apparently what was done without the knowledge of many commissioners.

The state did not require or make the county put the hospital money into the general funds they only said that was one option of several.
Yes the commissioners voted on this and they were warned by me among others that by putting it into the general funds that was the end of it.
One of the very commissioners who was so adamant that the hospital funds would remain untouchable at the time is the same one who so quickly adopted the new use it quick until there isn't anymore policy.

The voters didn't "do away" with anything. You first have to have something before you can do away with it. The proposed Charter was not adopted. Do you understand the difference? The status qou was voted to be maintained, the opportunity to do things differently was rejected.

2:28
The roads are not being "paved", they are being "chipped" there's a very significaqnt difference between the 2 processes, both in costs and durability. But even broken up, chipped, back roads are better than choking on silica laden chert dust which leads to silicosis.
The money for the Highway Department comes from $0.37 of the property tax (I believe that was the amount I was told), and state and federal funds.

Charles Green is a Giles County citizen and former Commissioner who, with the assistance of some level headed Commissioners planed for and created a General Fund reserve balance of over $6.5 million in 2004. He decided not to run again as Commissioner in the 2004 race. I believe he is from the 6th District.

He is very well versed in regards to the budget process Giles County uses. Though I and he never agreed on many issues, I have the highest respect for his integrety and ability to cut through the financial bull sh-t.

He operates a local concrete contracting company. If he can be gotten to run for County Executive, He would have my support and vote over Vanzant and/or Bass.

When employees are involved in political activities during their work hours they are breaking the law.

People like Vanzant who can't tell the truth if it sat on her nose and are laughed at by other county executives for her lack of leadership and planning.
People who used government equipment and worked on county time for political activities.

You would be much better advised to stop being led around by the crooks fleecing our community. Why do you love them so much and hate the citizens in this community who exercise their Constitutional responsibility to question the actions of our government? Maybe you are the ring leader?

I do not embrace your idea of trying to pry people out of elected positions that the people wanted them to have in the first place. Wasn't that the heart and soul of the so-called charter? Didn't work, did it?

I don't hate the citizens of Giles County. That's a lie. I love our community and want what's best for it. Sorry, but I don't embrace what appears to be your idea that the county should be run by those who think like you do. The people have a voice in our government, and they exercised it loud and clear when the charter was defeated. Good!

I do see a lot of wrongful behavior in our government and from those who choose to continue to tear down this community by enabling that wrongful behavior, such as yourself.

My opinion is we have every right to voice our displeasure with their behavior, bring it into the open and allow the citizens to make the judgement for themselves. Instead of enabling wrongful behavior why don't you do something to better this community. Like leave and never come back. Ok.

I believe that is what the people of Giles County have been doing for close to two centuries. The problem seems to come in when the citizens elect people you guys don't approve of. It's ok to disapprove of elected officials and to voice those opinions and campaign/vote against them. But to call them names and try to destroy them as some do just because they oppose them is not right.
Oh, I'm here for the long haul. Sorry about that. Why don't you leave? If you are one of the troublemakers, we would appreciate your fast departure...one way, of course.

12:40 You are something else. Has anyone's post ever pleased you?

I have voted for people I thought that would do a good job only to find out they couldn't do it. I will continue to question what they do and I'm not moving, if you don't like my being here or anyone else living in Giles county you can move... ONE WAY!!

Don't you dislike the way the president and governor is doing things?

I can see 3:20 is one of the real trouble makers or one that just enables real trouble making. But the good news is Giles County will be a much better place to live with less people like it living here. So congratulations 3:20 on your decided departure from our fair county. Good riddance to you and have a nice life wherever you move to. I hope they do not condemn and treat you as an outsider and troublemaker as you have others. When you are gone please do not come back to visit.

Allen, you need to do away with the "anonymous" tag on this blog, so some of the cowards who spew at you and everyone else can back their words up. I don't always agree with you,but you go to almost every meeting and post information that WKSR or the county paper doesn't. I enjoy this blog, and would ,more, if cowardly people would quit posting with no name. Their comments hold no merit, for they could be coming from anybody, and some are just trying to disagree with whatever you say. They will not stay on topic, and always try to "down" you, and change the topic to whatever they want. The whole blog would hold more merit with the "anonymous" tag removed. That's all I have to say, right now.

the one that keeps telling outsiders to move is just at a loss for words when actually debating facts~ so when ever they get in over their head the just stop and tell someone to move--much like a child throwing a tatrum that isn't getting their way~

10:33's comment that "their comments hold no merit" is simply not true. Translation: Their comments offer an opposing view. There's the rub. It's also not true that we who offer those views are not cowards. There are valid reasons why some of us must post anonymously. It's also not true that we who oppose the troublemaking in this county are set on "downing" Barrett. Many people think he is a bad man who brings reproach upon himself by his behavior.
I just wanted to set the record straight for you.

I fully agree that those who post anonymously are "mostly" not cowards. They have a number of legitimate reasons for posting anonymously.
Then there is another subgroup made of the most measly of cowards. They are the ones who make personal attacks, spread gossip, make up lies, even attack family members of those they so viciously malign, then hide under the anonymous label, they are clearly cowards of the most lowest degree. I can not understand how anyone could possibly deny the cowardice of such behavior. The cg and enabler, one in the same, are prime examples of this type of utterly despicable cowardice.

Free speech should mean saying anything that is true about anyone.

The saying "move or hop a bus" is a very unbecoming way to act and isn't saying anything about the issues.

8:53 when you say trouble makers you are meaning the ones that abuse their power, dip into funds against the wishes of commissioners, attack citizens on the street, use hate speech, do not allow grievances to be heard from citizens, donate our tax dollars as their own, chase businesses away even though they are paid to bring business into the area, market an anti-charter campaign using tax dollars and government resources, lie to the citizens to get on a ballot, etc.?

Oh, I reread your post and you choose to enable that behavior and attack Barrett for posting it on this blog when the local mainstream media should be investigating. I see now you are a chief troublemaker if not the chief.

Well, ole cg the enabler has lied again he made the statement that when he saw me in public he was going to beat my butt, actually he didn't say butt, so when I saw him at the city work session I was surprised, not really since he hasn't told the truth about anything else, that I got out of there with my butt intact.
Oh well, guess he considered that since I only have one arm still working properly he'd play it safe and wait until the other arm is injured.

I'm the one you told the lie on that I enable wrong. That's right; you lied. The astonishing thing is that you continue to tell that lie. It just makes you look bad. And the reference to my being a Christian and a gentleman grew out of having to defend myself from your low-classed lie.
If you are trying to say that I threatened to beat your butt, that is another lie. Why can't you just be truthful about things?
I about cracked a rib laughing at your saying I might play it safe until your other arm is injured. They couldn't melt you down and pour you on me pal. You don't intimidate me one bit.

I would say that a Christian has every right to suggest that someone hop a bus if that person is unhappy here. It's called sound advice. Nobody should have to live in a place where he is unhappy.

AGAIN ..... Good old CG is harping on the fact that Barrett told a lie in calling CG an enabler.

BUT .... CG has refused to admit that he too is a lier (by his own words in admitting that he has told lies); and, he continues to tell them.

Good old CG the same broken record. For your information, CG, by continuing to repeat and repeat, and repeat that you accuse Barrett has told a lie about (and not "on") you does enable troublemaking in the County. So by your own actions YOU ARE A TROUBLE MAKER AND THEREFORE AN ENABLER OF WRONG DOING!

Now I know that you will whine, complain and spout off that you are no such person. But when looking at and reading you past postings; you , by your actions and postings, prove my point.

Poor, poor, poor pittiful CG ...everyone is against him and he is so sad.

Barrett chose to retell his lie. Why shouldn't someone point that out to the readers? It's pathetic, but he just can't seem to let it go. Even more pathetic is the fact that you defend him when he tells that lie.

CG has been called a liar and enabler by many on this blog including Barrett and myself and they have given examples of that lying and enabling.
Many requests have been made of cg to give some proof that he is not a liar and enabler and so far the only thing he has been able to say is "I'm a Christian Gentleman" which prove nothing not even that he is a Christian or a gentleman.
Instead of providing proof others are lying about him he just whines and tries to change the subject and say people are critical of him for being a Christian which is untrue, they only laugh at him form trying to hide under the term Christian.
He was an enabler yesterday, he is an enabler today and in all probability will be an enabler tomorrow. The lies won't change because he's too invested in the lies, sort of like telling kids Santa Claus brings presents at Christmas.

Enabler is a lie Barrett concocted out of what I believe to be spite and anger because I don't see things as he does. I thought being a Christian and a gentleman as well would prove that I do not go along with wrongdoings, and that I am a male and not a female. That apparently wasn't good enough, and I was JUDGED falsely. You defend that falsehood.
Here's a bit more proof. I hate the concept of Giles County becoming a retirement community. I strongly disapprove of Dan Speer and of course Tee Jackson. I would not defend either of the two and am glad Mr. Jackson is leaving. I also happen to think Dan Speer needs to go along with a few troublesome commissioners who tend to vote against sound policy that could help our county move forward. WHAT ABOUT THAT?

The commissioners ARE (as a whole)trying to do what they think is best for Giles County. However, there are some of them whom I feel should be voted out next time they come up for election. Who I think they are is really none of your business.
As for Tee Jackson, there was a time when I had great respect for him. But when Mrs. Garner went down, I lost that. Ok? I believe that has already been explained to you previously, but I'm sure you have just forgotten.

No, the Commissioners are doing what Janet wants done, good luck voting them out!!! Find 3 people in your district that will run. The ones who are there, are there for good, unless they die in office or choose not to run. How do you think they stay so long in those positions??? Nobody good will run against them, the smart and honorable people can't win, the good ole boys make sure the same ones run every year. Keep the stupid and easily manipulated close and the idiots even closer.
They meet in advance to decide who runs to make sure the current system stays in place.

The Charter would have given everyone a new choice with the
8 year term limits, but you all decided that you like being led around by the good ole boys and be told what to do and what to think. 8 years is long enough for anyone to serve....unless bribes and career politics come into play.

Avoid the rush now, just go give them your property, your money, jewels and your children's future.
Hope you like the same old, same old.
