Tonight the school Board met and voted on a new Director of Schools.
On the ballot to choose the top two possibilities the vote was as follows;
For Dr. Webb- Byrant, Greene, Young, Story, Glover and Ead
For Dr. Wright- Byrant and Story
For Commissioner Brown - Turner, Greene, Young and Glover
For Principal Smith - Turner and Ead
On the vote between the top two
Dr. Webb received the vote of Board Members Byrant, Greene, Young, Story and Ead
Ms. Brown received the votes of Board Members Turner and Glover

I have to say I am really disappointed in their choice. Now, the S... begins.
I think the board made a great decision. Giles County teachers are going to be held accountable. That is a wonderful thing when it comes to the education of our kids. Sometimes you have to step outside of Giles County to see how far behind it is in education.

Barrett, so far you have told the truth.
Take a look at who was from Giles County. A black female. She did an awesome job in her interview, but immediately board members questioned how well she answered. She was at the work session when the questions were discussed and decided on. She isn't a dummy. Why not take notes. And a black male. He is great for the school in the North end of town but not to run the whole system.
And how thorough did the board members look at the applications. Was everything in there that was requested or was it ok to put part of your transcript with a note saying will get the rest later. That seemed to be acceptable enough to hire Webb. And just because some Cheatham County school board members said he was great deem not going to Cheatham County and really checking him out.
And as for Mrs. Murray she was told she was getting an interview, it was publicized on the radio and the newspaper and then was told she didn't meet the criteria since she had never been an administrator and couldn't do a huge budget. She's smarter than you think when it comes to the budget. A-hole Tee lives on. And just see how long Webb stays on. He was ready to leave in December. Well board members I hope he does a good job for the sake of our county. But as previouly stated "YOU SUCK".
This is a horrendous decision. Yet again, Tee Jackson screws the county!! This man knows nothing about Giles Co. except for the one school year he was principal at Richland. Just google his name and you will see the comments from people who worked with him. He really screwed things up in Cheatham Co. and will do the same to this already struggling school district. He fires teachers without due process, but on how much they kissed his ass. Do we really need that Giles Co? They really screwed up not hiring JB for this position because he would have made it about the education of the kids, not about how many times our football team can win a game. You really dropped the ball on this one, School Board!!
Just read the comments in this blog (especially the last 2 from "Tonya") to get an insight into the new jackassery that parents will have to deal with from the new superintendent. He doesn't give 2 farts for the kids!! A kid committed suicide because of bullying at school and Webb completely ignored it.

A whole family was MURDERED by two Richland students and the whole school system, and especially Richland, IGNORED it. No memorials in the Yearbook, just the usual, "Move along, nothing to see here." Of course, the murderer's mother was employed by the school. Business as usual.

So apparently there were some issues either in his background, application or interview that turned off the majority of the board members. I would be interested to know why so many on this blog wanted him yet he tied for last in the board's pick.

Dr. Webb did a great job in his previous position and at Richland. I have spoken with several parents and teachers in Cheatham County and they said he was tough on the lazy and stood behind the ones that wanted to teach and did good work. He moved their education system forward. He is exactly the right choice for this county. Take your personal grudges and shove them.

I was at the meeting and saw for myself what was done and it wasn't pretty.
First Mr. Barrett was there and I must apologize to him because of some things I thought about him, I was wrong and guilty of listening to others instead of getting direct information.
The Board tried to use secret ballots to make their decision so the public would never know who vote for whom. Mr Barrett would have none of that and after sitting very politely with his hand raised for several minutes the chairman offered to let him speak but Mr Story had a fit and refused and of course the chairman backed down. Mr Ead made the motion to suspend the rules and let him speak but no one had the guts to oppose Story. Mr Barrett spoke anyway stating that the secret ballot was illegal. Mr Story tried to say it wasn't really a vote so it didn't matter. Mr Barrett insisted very politely that if the vote wasn't public it would be challenged and required to be done over. Mr Story very angrily demanded Barrett be ignored and continue with the meeting. Mr Ead check some papers and said Barrett was right, then they call the attorney who said Barrett was right. The board voted again and revealed who they voted for.
Later there was another question about if the chairman had to be on the committee negotiating the contract. Over ten minutes was spent trying to decide. finally Mr.Barrett said to Mr Ead It's optional the chairman don't have to be on there he can even appoint who is on there. This really set Mr Story off who then called for a recess to call the attorney again. Mr Story stormed out. The attorney agreed with Mr. Barrett and one of the Board members was overheard saying they sure didn't want to be the one to tell Don.
I know these things because I sat right behind Mr Barrett and next to Mr Ead. Mr Barrett was proven right twice and saved the school money Mr Ead showed real integrity by insisting they check and he saved the school money.
I don't know what Dr Webb will do or not do but I do have a new respect for Mr. Barrett.
How did they save the school money if they had to call the attorney. Everytime he is called it cost the school system. To Armpit and hammer "The school board sucks" and your short on intelligence since you can't carry on a conversation without provanity. Don't let Mr. Ead fool you, he is competing with know it all Story to see who can outdo each other. Here's the thing as I see it. Dr Webb was not my first choice wasn't necessarily even my second choice. I made my position clear and gave the reasons for it. Now, the director has been appointed, depending on his agreement and a contract being drawn up, end of that discussion.
My position now is simple, as I have publicly stated before, I do not know Dr. Webb but now he is the probable director and I will support him fully. That certainly does not mean unconditionally but as long as he operates openly, honestly fiscally responsible he will have my support and I hope everyone else as well.
I certainly wish him well and look forward to meeting him.

Bridgeforth scores are reflected because of Southside scores. The scores carry over and reflect on the next school. By the eighth grade the scores come up. Smith is academics first and then sports. The coaches really let it be known that they didn't want Smith.

As far as the scores being bad at Southside, have you thought about where the students go before they go to Southside? That's right, Pulaski Elementary School. And before that? They are with their parents! Let's not place blame on one school. Furthermore, parents are more worried about how their students perform in sports than they are about their education.

Dr Webb should start by cleaning house at Pulaski Elem School. I've heard for several years now that low schools are coming into Southside. They have a new principal at Southside now so why doesn't Pulaski Elem? How long has that principal been there now? Dr Webb needs to put someone that is strong and will enforce changes that are current in education today. No the asst is NOT the one to do it. In fact, save some money and have one principal at that school - for crying out loud it is a Pre k through 2nd grade school. Minor Hill Elkton and Richland do well with one principal. We will all figure out how Dr Webb will do by his actions once he takes office until August. If there are no changes in the county then we know we are in for same 'ol same 'ol.
I agree 2:11 - I know someone that works there and that school is going down hill fast. Been like that for years. Try asking either of the principals there anything about what's going on in education today and you will probably get some BS answer or a blank stare. I understand morale is lower than ever and teachers want positive leadership. Maybe Dr Webb will listen. It did no good talking to Tee. He was pals with that principal since he was a county commissioner. Mr Barrett should reach out to the staff at Pulaski Elem and Elkton school - he could be the catalyst to get the board members and new director to help these schools. Many teachers are too afraid for their jobs to speak up. If teachers felt valued and appreciated maybe better instruction will happen and county scores will go up.

Barrett has some great ideas sometimes. The problem is that sometimes his information is second or third hand and it is not right. He should not speak with such authority about things he does not have first hand knowledge of. The things he knows and sees himself are usually good.

I think the evidence is in and Barrett was proven right and everyone who believed the board was wrong including the dumbasses that continue to say he don't know what he's talking about. I don't remember the exact statement but someone said "Barrett may not be right all the time but he's far more right than wrong and I trust him". I would also say that he is far more accurate than those who speak for the county and the school system.
The problem with WAB is not whether he is right or he is wrong. The problem is that he alienates and divides with his delivery.

People! A director has been named now let's grow up and tackle the issues in our school system once and for all. There needs to be turn-over at the schools mentioned already AND at central office. Not only administrators and supervisors but teachers and support staff too! There is too much change going in education reform today to continue with all that is currently just "there to get a pay check" or "more years towards retirement". If what I've heard today is true, the buddy system has started already. Heard today that Jerry Bryant and Don Story wanted to give Dr. Webb a salary of $100,000.00 a year when he only ask for $80,000.00. What favors are thee two expecting from Dr. Webb? Somehow or the other we've got a few other school board members with some sense and he has received $80,000.00 a year. I really believe that thses two need to answer this accusation and if it's not so, please let us know otherwise I feel the truth will come out sooner or later.

Just wondering if anyone has looked at the paper, which has the pictures of the staff at the Central Office? I counted 28, yes, 28 different positions at the Central Office. Really? How can those people even have anything to do? That's where money is being wasted, and it needs to be seriously addressed.

The thing is Dr. Webb asked for a salary of $80,000 plus a car allowance of $6,000.
The School Board formed a committee consisting of Board Members Mr, Story, Mr. Byrant and Mr. Greene. They voted two to one to give Dr. Webb a salary of $96,000 plus the car allowance. It seems rather insane to me for a man to ask for a salary of $80,000 and the board demand he take $96,000, guess they must be rolling in money.
Thursday at 5PM the School Board will meet in their regular session and hopefully the matter of the Director's salary will be discussed. One question I know will be asked is why the negotiating committee met without the required public announcement, thus meeting without the public knowing. Was it an intentional or an accidental omission, either way it makes the committee look secretive and petty and it was a blatant violation of the law.
This is nothing against Dr. Webb, but against the school board. Next year he should get a raise. What does the board think Giles county is made of.
The commissioners could stop giving them all the money they want. The children will be hurt. It seems like all the money goes to the central office anyway.

I fully agree with 11:24, this salary thing has nothing to do with Dr. Webb. He made a very considerate and generous offer to the School Board.
The other thing I would remind everyone of, is the fact that the three member negotiating committee did not make a unanimous decision to increase Dr. Webb's requested pay package. Mr Greene voted no; Mr Byrant and Mr Story voted for the large increase.

Teachers were given a raise on the state salary schedule just like state employees were last year. Did you not know you got a raise? or does it not count if it comes thru the state...
The teacher probably didn't notice a raise last year. It was a whopping 1.6%. That doesn't even amount to a COLA increase. That was also the first raise of any kind, through the state at least, that they'd received in years.

Teacher can complain if they want but a raise is a raise, the people who work for the school system that are not degreed get nothing from the state so how long do you think it has been for them.

The administration with the exception of the director and assistant director are paid paritally by the state so they would have been given a raise along with teachers.

No the Central Office did not get raises and they make less money than principals. They are not high paid employees.

There were a few teachers I would have loved to have under me when I was in school.
If remarks like that are any indication of how you performed in school, having anyone "under" you would have been quite impossible. You are evidently as low as they come.
