What Is Proper Dress For Church?
There would be no need for name-calling or personal attacks with this one."
The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Why this has become such an issue, not just with the requester but in many areas around the country, especially in the midst of so many major issues and attacks against Christianity, I don't know. Personally I have never been concerned about how others dress. I do believe people should dress with modesty but even that should not prevent a person from attending worship service. My point of view is you can't teach people who are not present as easily as you can those who are there. No one should ever be be denied the opportunity to take part in the worship of our Lord. How can people know what is modest or anything else if they are not taught?
I think this post is stupid. Would Christ shun a person for their choice in wardrobe? If you are a Christian worry about what Christ thinks as opposed to what others think.
I personally think all the different denominations and self proclaimed Christians judging others are greater stumbling blocks.
The people are the Church, not the buildings, and the church is not to be divided, yet man continues to form different denominations for whatever reasons.
But I do agree with the poster. Those elected officials and government employees who abuse their power, feel they are above the law, and have wasted the tax payer dollars do cause a lot of trouble and strife in the community and are great stumbling blocks for progress and governments accountability to the normal citizen.
I knew this would get off on an attack of our elected officials. Look out, Mrs. Vanzant and certain commissioners; they will be after you again shortly!
I think the point to be made about proper dress for church is lost in translation. Who is to say what is and is not proper dress? The point is...will people stay away from church because they use the excuse that they don't have good enough clothes to wear? I think many do. And the other side of the coin is that some people seem to come to church to make fashion statements. To me, that's just as bad as making excuses. Personally, I like to wear a coat and tie to church on Sunday mornings, but normally dress down on Sunday and Wednesday nights. That is a choice I make and do not bind it on others. And if my coat and tie offends someone, I have to think it's their problem and not mine.
"Why this has become such an issue?" Strife and variation from the required thoughts and personal demands of men who dedicate themselves to a mission of controlling the weak of mind's footprint in life. To follow scribblings, written by man, modified by Kings, and interpreted hourly to adhere to personal agendas.
It is a matter of control. It all centers around control. Reference to a "flock" is on point. Follow thy leader as he deems fit and dare not utilize scientific proof. If not thy leader will surely change the interpretation of the scribblings as deemed necessary.
You may be enrobed in any cloth as long as thy contribute to the collection of monetary notes and follow the code of conduct set forth by your leader.

It doesn't matter what Mr. Barrett post some don't like it.
I've often thought about what people wear to church and how things have changed. I remember when the females always wore a hat and gloves and Sunday dresses. The men wore suits and a tie. When did it change? Females now wear pants to church. It may be dress pants or blue jeans. At least they are there.
Some men still wear suit and ties, some have a tie and nice shirt. Some even have blue jeans. Wear what ever you want just go to church.
Now I hope this don't offend anyone but it's something I have noticed, the black people always dress up. What I would call Sunday dresses and hat. The men in suits and ties.
I admire them for that.
Now so someone want feel fill left out. Look how commissioners use to always have on suits, vest and ties and now some may wear shorts and tee shirt in the summer. It's just how things have changed. Don't you know those old commissioners got hot in the summer, no air conditioning and all those clothes on. There was no female commissioner then. Time just changes.
How many suits and ties were at the sermon on the mount?
7:11 Did anyone wear a suit and tie then? Hadn't been invented. lol
Styles change.
4:55
But wasn't this thread supposed to be about proper attire for church? Just saying.
6:10 Funny, I just read 4:55's post was it not about what people use to wear and now wear to church?
4:55 I agree times has changed in what people wear. Just don't go to church in only your birthday suit.
For those that think you don't have good enough clothes as some do, go on to church with what you have, God doesn't judge how you dress.
Being in church is the most important thing. The dress codeis secondary. I do believe that you should dress as if you're going to church and not to a hoe down. Remember, clothes don't make the person.
And really nice high-end clothes can be picked up for a song at thrift stores. So one excuse may be as good as another.
If Barrett does in fact go to church, where ever that may be, i would be he went in drag!!!!
And he turns me on!
I see the manly man who post under my name is still trolling on. What do you wear to church, -- if, that is you go -- your other face? It's quite obvious that you have more than one, dumbass. You should try a bit harder, although I'm sure Allen isn't the only man who turns you on. Step on out of the closet; homosexuality doesn't carry the stigma that it once did.
Ray
Too funny Ray. Don't feel bad. I have one on this blog who gives me a hard time as well. Take care.
I can't understand why anyone would give Ray a hard time. He seems like a nice person and gives reasons for what he believes.
Ray did you beat someone's time with a pretty girl when in school and they still hold a grudge?
6:41/2:25, thanks for your kind words. I am a hell of a nice person -- at least that's what my mother always said. I'm not sure when I pissed in my troll's corn flakes, but it obviously left a bad taste in his mouth. Y'all take care and try not to sweat the small stuff.

I showered and shaved................ I adjusted my tie.
I got there and sat................ In a pew just in time.
Bowing my head in prayer............ As I closed my eyes.
I saw the shoe of the man next to me....... Touching my own. I sighed.
With plenty of room on either side......... I thought, 'Why must our soles touch?'
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine.. But it didn't bother him much.
A prayer began: 'Our Father'............. I thought, 'This man with the shoes, has no pride. They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!'
'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on.
The shoe man said................. A quiet 'Amen.'
I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again..
Aren't we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door?
'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, glancing toward the floor.
Then the prayer was ended............ And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud..... Sounding proud as he sang.
His voice lifted the rafters........ His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear.. The shoe man's voice from the sky.
It was time for the offering........ And what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached.... Into his pockets so deep.
I saw what was pulled out.......... What the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft 'clink' as when silver hits tin.
The sermon really bored me.......... To tears, and that's no lie.
It was the same for the shoe man... For tears fell from his eyes.
At the end of the service........ As is the custom here.
We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer.
But I felt moved somehow........... And wanted to meet the shoe man.
So after the closing prayer........ I reached over and shook his hand.
He was old and his skin was dark..... And his hair was truly a mess.....
But I thanked him for coming.......... For being our guest...
He said, 'My name’s Charlie............ I'm glad to meet you, my friend.'
There were tears in his eyes......... But he had a large, wide grin..
'Let me explain,' he said............. Wiping tears from his eyes.
'I've been coming here for months...... And you're the first to say 'Hi.''
'I know that my appearance...........Is not like all the rest.
'But I really do try....................To always look my best.'
'I always clean and polish my shoes...Before my very long walk.'
'But by the time I get here........They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.'
My heart filled with pain............ And I swallowed to hide my tears.
As he continued to apologize.......... For daring to sit so near
He said, 'When I get here............ I know I must look a sight.'
'But I thought if I could touch you....Then maybe our souls might unite.'
I was silent for a moment............. Knowing whatever was said
Would pale in comparison.... I spoke from my heart, not my head.
'Oh, you've touched me,' I said.......'And taught me, in part'
'That the best of any man..............Is what is found in his heart.'
The rest, I thought,............... This shoe man will never know.
Like just how thankful I really am.... That his dirty old shoe touched my soul.
