For those of you who see no problem with a discussion of racism here on this blog, I would just like to make a few comments.
First of all, we simply do not need this. Nobody I know of would deny that there's racism in America, but why ramp it up and make things worse as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton routinely do? Oh, and did you see that idiot Obama on television yesterday doing his part to foment even more racism? Is that consistent with his previous statements about "revenge"? Why did he need to go on tv and offer his condolences to the Martin family? They had already stated that their loss was not racially motivated. Why can't those like Obama, Sharpton, and Jackson accept that? They certainly had no problem with what O.J. Simpson got away with. Furthermore, why didn't Bill Clinton go on television and offer his condolences to the Brown and Goldman families? Think about that.
Lastly, let's take a serious look at Lyndon B. Johnson (a Democrat) and his so-called Great Society. I won't even say anything about former congressman KKK Byrd (another Democrat). Johnson stated that he would have blacks (he used the N word) voting Democrat for the next 200 years. Oh, and he said more about how easily they could be led. You can research this for yourself.
Are you folks sure that you want to go there and open up a needless can of worms and the potential for more trouble here in Giles County?
And for you who believe it was the Democrat who first worked toward civil rights legislation, think again. It was former president Dwight David Eisenhower (a Republican). But guess who stopped him? That's right; it was the Democrats.
These things need to be impressed upon blacks so that they can see for themselves that the Democrats are the ones who keep them in chains of fear and dependency.
All of this is verifiable. It just takes a little effort to research it and know for yourself.
Why don't all of "YOU PEOPLE" become black for a week and then get on here and tell us all what is best for black people.

One of the biggest failings of democracy is that it gives the same voting rights to the unproductive as it does to the productive. If the ratio gets lopsided and favors the former, we spiral into a system which is based on increasing what people receive and punishing those who produce. This is how it ends. Our system needs to be changed to prevent the unproductive from gaining power by weighting them lower

Do you want to know what it is sickening? It is the fact that minorities have been given far more opportunities in the last 20 years than anyone else. That includes people of all nationalities other than white, as well as women. Some have seized the opportunity and others have sat on their hands and complained just like the old days.
Mexicans have come into this country and taken jobs that others were too lazy to take, and they are happy to do so. Most of the African-Americans that I know would like to see Al Sharpton and Barack Obama shut their mouths because it makes them look bad in public. What does that say for the blacks that are still bitching about racism?
I read a comment about Obama saying he was profiled as a young black man. I had to laugh because young black men tend to put themselves in a position for us to want to lock our doors and avoid them. When I see some thug walking down the street with his pants around his knees it makes me cringe. I do the same when I drive down a street where a bunch of white boys are living in trailers and acting like they want to be thugs.

CG, you make some valid points concerning LBJ, but perhaps you stopped your research too soon. It's possible that the black folks who vote against the party of Lincoln (a Republican) have delved a bit deeper into his policies.
Although Lincoln despised slavery, he was not an abolitionist. It was sanctioned by the Constitution which presented a problem for him.
Despite his "all men are created equal" speech, he didn't feel that the black man should share the rights and privileges of the white race. For example, he didn't believe that blacks should be able to vote, serve on juries or hold public offices. He also advocated freeing the slaves and then colonizing them in Liberia, much like Native Americans on reservations.
There are more facts about Lincoln's ideas that are in contrast to what many people believe about him, but I grow weary of typing.
My point is that it's not so much about Democrats or Republicans, but more about human nature. You can't lay the problems off strictly on party affiliations. Racism is alive and well as it has always been, regardless of which lever you pull on election day.

You are right; Lincoln was not really a friend of blacks. And yes, he was considering the idea of resettling them back to Africa before he was murdered. You won't recognize me. My name was Antonio West and I was the 13-month old child who was shot at point blank range by two teens who were attempting to rob my mother, who was also shot. A Grand Jury of my mommy's peers from Brunswick GA determined the teens who murdered me will not face the death penalty...too bad I was given a death sentence for being innocent and defenseless.
My family made the mistake of being white in a 73% non-white neighborhood, but my murder was not ruled a Hate Crime. Nor did President Obama take so much as a single moment to acknowledge my murder.
I am one of the youngest murder victims in our great Nation's history, but the media doesn't care to cover the story of my tragic demise, President Obama has no children who could possibly look like me - so he doesn't care and the media doesn't care because my story is not interesting enough to bring them ratings so they can sell commercial time slots.
There is not a white equivalent of Al Sharpton because if there was he would be declared racist, so there is no one rushing to Brunswick GA to demand justice for me. There is no White Panther party to put a bounty on the lives of those who murdered me. I have no voice, I have no representation and unlike those who shot me in the face while I sat innocently in my stroller - I no longer have my life.

I have a suggestion for a new thread topic that really needs to be discussed. How about one that addresses the "splendid" job childrens services does in protecting abused and neglected children? That's a laugh, considering that they don't. The sad thing is that the abused often remain as victims and are returned to trashy homes as expediently as possible. That seems just as true for those who are subjected to sexual abuse. WHY?? DCS workers are paid by taxpayers and should be expected to either do their jobs or be fired! I know what I'm talking about, and something really needs to be done to get these people to do what they were hired to do.

No, it is up to ALL of us as citizens to report suspected abuse. It is the job of DCS to investigate to determine if the referral is legitimate. I just wish they would do their jobs when it is obvious that a child is being sexually molested or physically/mentally abused or neglected.

I would like to make a non-racist statement and prediction here. I think the Democrats are intent on getting to at least 51% of the voters dependent on government. Why is that? When they get a voting majority on hand-outs and entitlements, we will probably never again see a conservative in the White House. That's when we go fully into the toilet. This is going on right now, and we need to wake up.
This is why the Democrats want to give full amnesty to millions of illegals here in our country. Their definition of "undocumented worker" is future Democratic voter!
Even the smart Republicans want to grant amnesty because it will broaden the tax base. The government would be fools not to make them legal. The cost and time to deport them would be catastrophic. The Mexicans are overall a great group of people that want a good life by working hard. I am a conservative for amnesty.
A major problem with amnesty is it simply does not work to benefit the nation, that was proven in the eighties when it was done. Those planned to receive amnesty are among the lowest skilled and least productive of all immigrants. The plan that will allow all their dependents to also come promises to increase the population by over thirty million people many of them already eligible for medicare and social security and don't think you have to actually pay into the system to receive the benefits.
Certainly it would be cost prohibitive to deport every illegal but it would not be difficult to to have them go home if the magnet that draws them here was shut down. If it was that being here illegally you could not work and anyone hiring an illegal, renting to them etc, would be given a very heavy fine you would find the number reduced drastically very quickly.
With an official unemployment rate hovering at 8% and unofficially over 12%, many areas and groups are in the twenty percent unemployment areas. Where will thirty million new people get jobs, especially with no skills? I hear the media reports stating that these illegals only do jobs that Americans won't do, well if an American gets hungry enough they will do what ever job is available to feed themselves. Too, many free benefits for able bodied people to work says more about the state of the nation than just about anything else. People hanging around the house with free time and no self esteem ends up with increased domestic violence, gang activity, drug use and unwanted and un-cared for children.
The people on this blog should be running a nation somewhere (SOMEWHERE). The intelligence is over abundant and self serving. The mentality speaks for southern hicks that run this county or should I say (want to run this county). What a great representation this blog is for the Giles County people. Keep it up and our (YOUR) numbers will surely increase.

Name-calling and making horrible accusations would not be my style, and I have never said anything against the Prouds or Ray. I don't know the Prouds, and have only had dialogue with Ray on this blog. I think Ray is an ok guy, and I would never lower myself as some have done.

I would like to comment on something that was said about those who are entrusted with protecting abused and neglected children...namely, DCS and the courts system.
I find it thoroughly outrageous that many caseworkers who are paid by taxpayers to protect abused children will NOT do their jobs. This is undeniably true as DCS has been under investigation for a good while now. Why would they need to be scrutinized if there were no problems?
Let me take that a step further. On those occasions wherein people are actually taken to court on abuse charges, it seems that, due to some "technicality" or "not enough evidence", the perpetrators get off scott free and the poor children are sent back homer with them. I have talked to a number of people who have shared similar horror stories.
My hat is off to those who actually are advocates for victimized children. Those workers should be both applauded and rewarded. The others need to find more appropriate employment!

I was watching an episode of Cold Case on television just recently and noticed that the message was so relevant and clear. A father's young son was sexually molested and then killed. There was not enough "evidence" to convict, so the perpetrator walked. Everyone knew the man was guilty, but that's how it goes.
Guess what happened when the powers that be did nothing? The father started killing previously convicted child molesters. He called it taking out the trash!
More than this, have any of you ever watched the Death Wish movies starring Charles Bronson? The theme is remarkably similar. The laws didn't protect, so he (Bronson) turned vigilante.
When such things as what happened in the Cold Case episode and the Death Wish movies actually happen in real life, I think we can reasonably blame those have the power to do something and who refuse or look the other way!
