Don Storey Resigns From School Board
At the standing room only called School Board Meeting tonight Don Storey after an impassioned speech verbally resigned his position as School Board Member representing the 3rd District. Mr. Storey strongly criticized what he described as "mishandling" the situation that led to Dr. Webb's resignation.
Mr. Storey stated there was, "two very troubling things about this situation". "It was wrong getting rid of Dr. Webb and not following Board policy which was a grave injustice to Dr. Webb". "Another part that bothers me even more is some of these things date back to last fall". That contrary to Board policy, those things should have been brought before all the Board members prior to confronting Dr. Webb and that Dr. Webb should have been confronted by the full Board long before Monday and given an opportunity to explain and/or make corrections. Mr. Storey closed his remarks by saying that, "when we hired Dr. Webb we asked him to balance the budget and get rid of the 120 day contracts that were costing the system too much money and we told him to move whoever he had to, to do it" .He did what we asked him too and "getting rid of the best, most child loving, enthusiastic directors ever is the wrong thing to do".
"I'm officially handing in my resignation, I'm done, you go out and make decisions on your own, I don't want to be associated with you". All the Board Member were present except for Mr. Greene who joined the meeting via phone.

Dr. Webb resigned. How can there be an injustice on anyone's behalf if the man resigned?

I heard the police had to be called when Barrett caused another uproar by making comments about Storey while he was talking.

Bye Bye Don. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Webb forgot that he was suppose to be the director for all Giles County schools, not just the school up North. Of course the people at Richland supported him with all the money wasted up there at the expense of all the other schools. The fine folks in district four will have no trouble getting a better person than you and I bet they will not be a big bully like you. Good riddance!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you that weren't there, the police were on site prior to the meeting. Allen Barrett didn't cause the trouble. A group of people were talking and an audience member asked them to be quiet so che could hear what was being said. A deputy sheriff told them to act like adults and be quiet or get out. Allen Barrett was just writing things down. So yes it was just a gossiping rumor.
Richland, the step child? What have you been smoking? Webb and Storey have done more to divide the educational system than any thing since consolidation. They eat up more money just to have a bare bones curriculum than any school in the county. It is a shame some people that support Richland feel they are entitled to what they want and to heck with the NEEDS every where else. You, my friend, are the crazy one.

Please, Richland parents are helping pay for a football stadium they dont even get to use.
Just a correction to 10:25: If you're talking about the stadium in Pulaski where several county teams play football, you're incorrect. The stadium is owned and maintained by the CITY of Pulaski.

Richland has their own stadium paid for by the tax payers of Giles County. Do you want to build GCHS a stadium or allow them to play in a city owned facility? The county also built the other athletic facilities Richland has. What about academics...want to talk about that?
Well, one school board member is gone. Now, it's left up to the voters to get rid of the rest of them. The current board members have mishandled the Webb situation from the very beginning, proving that they are not able or willing to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
To everyone talking about football stadiums, there was a city tax increase to re-build a stadium for the "Home of the Giles County Bobcats". Yes, other schools play there as well, like Bridgeforth and South Giles, not Richland. While some of the facilities at Richland have been paid for by tax payers (just like the other schools facilities), a lot of them have been paid for by booster clubs. If you would like to discuss academics, you can log onto the state website and find that, contrary to popular belief, Giles County High School, Richland High School, and Richland Elementary School were the top three in the county listed under "Advanced" and "Proficient". Do the research. Although, a lot of people didn't like Don Story's style during meetings, he was an excellent board member and worked in every way he could for the betterment of all Giles County Schools. Somebody should have taught you all some respect for other peoples opinions. I was at the meeting last night and overheard one of our precious teachers ask someone beside her "how do you spell transferred," that's the real problem in education. We have educators in our county that cannot even spell. Let's just hope that she doesn't teach spelling or English.

Someone said Richland people was paying taxes to pay for the stadium in Pulaski and Richland can't use it. Has Richland asked to use the stadium and been turned down? If not why the fuss?

Richland could easily use Sam Davis. It could play its home games when gchs is playing away. Problem solved.
"Richland people" whatever that means would pay the same county tax if Gchs were to build a stadium as "gchs people" pay for county-provided facilities at Richland. But let's not build a third stadium please. Again. Problem solved.

Hey 6:33, I'm just passing along what I heard. Isn't that something you're fond of doing? I can't help it if I heard someone say cg stood for "child groper." You are an expert at spreading gossip and innuendo so I thought surely you would approve. Don't give if you are not willing to receive.
Don Story started out being a good board member. He was in tune with evertything and did his homework. He then decided to make the board meetings his meeting and no argueing to go with it. It was his way or the highway. He even threatened a board member that as long as he was on the board they would never be interviewed or let be Director. He became overbearing and critical to all. Heart attacks will do that to you. Best thing he could have done at this point was leave. I'm just sorry that others didn't follow suit. Clover is as useless as tits on a bore hog. Eade has an ego thing about out talking Don and Bryant sounds like he came from a cave way way back in the hills. The more he talks the dummer he sounds. He, Gonzales and Webb are great buddies. But at least he did ask him to resign. County needs to start fresh.

Storey wanted to control everything from the beginning and he and a couple other board members were doing that with Webb as director. At the meeting on Webb's contract, Storey got mad and said the job of the board was only policy and budget not personnel, which is supposed to be true. What he should have said was it was only policy and budget unless HE was making the decisions. Proof: he then went on to say Webb did what was ASKED of him when he fired all the contract teachers. Thought personnel wasn't the boards job, Don? Plus remember the fit he threw when Jackson hired Chad Hall back and he tried to change that? It is true personnel is not the boards job, but some board members-and their wives-have been making alot of personnel decisions and more for the last year. Its time to clean house and get the manipulators off the board and replace them with people who care about education and not about personal grudges or vendettas.
Story quit cause he knows he won't be able to force the new director to do whatever he wants. Guess he didn't think it would be fun any more without all the power.
