Mr. J.B. Smith Appointed As Interim Director of Schools
Tonight the School board took a box of lemons and turned them into lemonade.
After a tremendous void was left by the resignation of Dr. Webb as Director of Schools then the additional turmoil created by Board Member Storey resigning, the Board appointed Mr. Smith as Interim Director of Schools. In order to take this position Mr Smith will take a leave of absence from the position of principal and then if he is not hired as the Director of Schools he would return to his position as principal at Bridgeforth.
I congratulate the Board and Mr. Smith on their decisions. Mr. Smith has a proven record of accomplishments as principal and will no doubt add much to the disciplined leadership and morale needed in our school system. .

With Dr. Webb supposedly behaving as he was, how can you say that a tremendous void was left?
I absolutely agree that Mr. Smith should be, and have been in the position all along!
As a parent and member of the Board of Ed faculty, I can only speak for myself in saying that I am ecstatic to have Mr. Smith as my new boss. His proven leadership skills are exactly what this county's education system needs. Giles County education is going to finally move forward!
Well at least one Board member got it right. District 1, Mr. Ead made the smartest decision any of the board members could. He picked the best candidate for Director. If I heard right, he tried to get Mr Smith made the permanent director of schools. Great idea. I hope it gets followed thru.

I have been following all the posts that have been made on the recent articles pertaining to Dr. Webb.
I had to laugh out loud because they are so vicious...rumors and gossip... and these are coming from "good Christian people."

Dr. Webb was hired as a change agent and told by the board to:
1. clean up the finances
2 increase the academic performance from among the worst in the state to much better
How come the board is withholding the test scores of the district? the scores and financial shape are the major indicators of his performance.
School boards, highly political and influenced by friends and personal interests. where change agent leaders are hired to make a difference not make friends...The board should have stuck to its comittment...
Giles county needs to produce skilled graduates for the new auto industries so they will remain and hire local . Dr. Webb was doing that.
Dr. Webb is recognized nationally as an educational leader and skilled administrator. He may have moved too fast for a small minded traditional community..that is unfortunate for the children who are the ones who matter.....

I didn't want Dr. Webb because of things I heard from friends I knew in Cheatman county.
BUT, something must not have come out by him being asked to resign. It's a little late for the board to see their arrogant and hiring him without really checking him out. They should of done that before hiring him.
So far from what I've heard that is no reason to fire anyone. When are we going to hear the truth?

Please check your facts. The board did not withhold anything.
Cleaning up finances looks great on a budget until you realize that to do so, sacrifices were made as to exclude your said goal #2. Academic performance would never have increased with such a dictator in place and morale so low that most teachers and staff were miserable.
Now, things should look up. The principals, teachers, staff have a leader they respect.

By the way it is not Cheatman County but Cheatham County.
What is being withheld is the truth concerning the state of Giles Counties educational system. Giles is one of 16 school systems in the South Central Region and is ranked 16th -DEAD LAST. Lawrence County our neighbor to the west is ranked #1. Out of all the school districts in the state more than 134, Giles will rank in the upper 100's- Not something to be proud of. To put it in perspective we are not much better than Memphis City Schools.
I enjoyed seeing the stunned looks on the Central Office Staff who was sure Debbie Braden would be the new interim director. Those of you who have been involved in this fiasco with Dr. Webb deserve what you are going to get and I can't wait for my front row seat to watch it all happen.
I just hope J.B cleans the snakes out of the central office, especially that skinny, slimy, two-faced, back-stabbing RATTLE SNAKE in the front office.
I hope WAB will request the documents used to force Dr. Webb to resign and post those so all can see who is making these allegations. Cagle declared it PUBLIC RECORD, and the PUBLIC has a right to know. I also believe it is much to do about nothing, cooked up by the one(S) who did not get their way. Shame, Shame, Shame.
I would encourage all of you to go vote, we need 5 new board members.

I believe Mr. Story said the rattlesnake was Dr. Webb's secretary. That is shameful! If Mr. Smith is smart, he will help her clean her office out and tell her to hit the road. She was allowed to run the CO and was privy to way too much information. She is an assistant not the assistant director as she liked to tell the community. Dont let this go unnoticed!

Why is it Barrett's responsibility to get that information 8:41. Anyone can go and request it. That's part of the problem in this county everyone wants somebody else to do the dirty work then when they do and get attacked for it where are those that were saying let Barrett do it. If I was Barrett I would wash my hands of this whole damn place especially after he does the work and the people that benefit most from his work don't vote for him or support him publically. I've seen Barrett at more meetings and offering more ideas than any commissioner and what's the result, he's demonized by a few fools and the rest of the people pee their pants in fear of supporting him.
I know Barrett and he is a very nice but determined man who has no fear when it comes to doing what he thinks is right.
I first met him when he was still preaching and was being offered the position of chairman of the Baptist association if he would only be quiet about some missing money. He wouldn't do it and was attacked and shunned by every baptist preacher in the county, a few years later many of those same preachers apologized and admitted he had been right all along.
If you really want to see what Barrett can do give him a seat on the commission and you'll see this county move forward. There are some good commissioners but they need some leadership to do the right thing and it looks like Vanzant will win another term since their will be a split vote.
The county needs Barrett or someone like him but when people have gotten used to living with a boot on their neck it's hard to think of any other way to live so they just keep doing the same thing, electing the same people and hoping someday things will get better. Things will not get better until we make them better.
Good post James. Some of these people posting here need to contact a TV series to become a writer. Based on their rumors and hear say info they would make good script writers. Some say they have information and will post it later. What is the delay. Some just pull things out of the air.

But regardless, I would strongly disagree that he (or you) should be "given" a seat on the commission. You see, that position has to be earned by the voters, and it's just not going to happen for him or you whichever the case may be. And I keep wondering who will get the blame for your next upcoming defeat?

Are you really confused about how an elected official gets elected? The position was earned by the voters casting votes for him or her. I suppose you could also say that the position was "given" because of voters too, but why are you splitting hair about something so simple? Please tell me you are smarter than this.

No I am not Allen Barrett. Are you perhaps a muslim terrorist posting under the name of a Christian Gentleman? You seem to fit the profile of a muslim more than a Christian and your attitude certainly is more in line with a terrorist than a gentleman.

The word "GIVE" means "to grant", it is the opposite of "to take".
When I stated, "If you really want to see what Barrett can do give him a seat on the commission and you'll see this county move forward".
For those without an agenda that clearly meant, "If you, the voters, really want to see the county move forward then vote for Allen Barrett and give him a position on the county commission".

5:54 So WAB is justified in telling what an official does wrong? If anyone see something Mrs. Vanzant or and commissioners does wrong they should tell it. I don't think they should be allowed to make mistakes and trying to hide it because it's a relative or good friend.
