An Open Letter to WKSR.com

To: wksr@igiles.net
Subject: Why won't you list my blog on Swap and Shop?
Cc: ronnie@wksr.com

Dear Sirs,

Your website says, in very plain English:

"Swap & Shop is a free service of wksr.com for individuals who have something to buy, sell, trade, or giveaway."

Well, I'm not charging anyone anything to read my community affairs blog. So it seems to qualify as "something to giveaway."

"To use this service you must agree that the item you are placing on Swap & Shop online is legally yours..."

Check. It's my blog. Mine, mine, mine, mine.

"...and that the phone number or e-mail address you are giving is yours personally."

Check, again. I've always submitted my real phone number and email address...

So, could anyone in a position of responsibility please explain to me why, after three separate attempts, I can't get my blog --

http://gilesfreespeechzone.blogspot.com/

-- listed on WKSR.com's "Swap and Shop?" I cannot see any violations of the rules listed, and I cannot imagine that you have a special set of rules that apply only to me, so I'm going to take a leap of faith, and, for the fourth and hopefully last time, submit a listing under the category "notice." Please either list it this time, or come up with an explanation of how my blog doesn't meet the posted rules.

Thank you very much,

Kendrick McPeters

Looks like the fourth time was NOT the charm. And -- as I'm sure pretty much everyone has already guessed -- I have not to date received any explanations from the radio station's management.

Can the mighty Lake media elephant actually be afraid of an internet mouse like me? It certainly looks like it. Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

It's a great computer, very well built. The service is great. Patti, is one of the tech's there and she is just great.

Good job, everyone at Surfmore.

Is there anyone you actually can speak favorably of, other than the "heroes" of anti-zoning? Just wondered.

Mr Mcpeters

Certainly. But not many of them are politicians!

I admire a lot of people that have gone from rags to riches -- people like Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart, George Lucas, Steve Jobs, Mel Gibson, etcetera -- and also the handful of entrepreneurs that are trying to launch private spacecraft -- Burt Rutan, Richard Branson, Paul Allen, and Jeff Bezos -- plus, I truly admire and appreciate the scientists, engineers, and risk-takers who have brought us desktop supercomputers and the internet.

There's a long list of dead people that I like, but it's too numerous to list. And I think so highly of veterans, that I'd gladly relinquish my vote, if I could live in a society where only veterans are allowed to vote. (See Robert A Heinlein's novel "Starship Troopers" -- and ignore the awful movie by that name.)

Finally, I'd take a bullet for the one true statesman left in all of American government-- the Honorable Ron Paul, MD, who is a congrescritter representing a district somewhere in Texas. He's a modern day Tom Jefferson, and I dearly love him and would be happy to see him installed as dictator.

To conclude, just because I have an unfavorable opinion of the majority of incumbent County Commissioners, and the Exec, doesn't mean that there aren't some people I like. It's true that my standards for what makes someone "likable" are pretty high, but then, I have high standards in every area of my life, so what should be surprising about that?

Sunday, July 30, 2006 12:51:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

People who disagree with you also have high standards! Imagine that! It is not something peculiar to only a few.
And I did want to know where you were coming from with respect to having people in your life, past and present, whom you respected and trusted..even liked. We are all who we are in large part because of life experiences we have had. A bit Freudian here.....but it seemed an interesting consideration...not that your private life and personal experiences are my business.

Mr McPeters,

It looks to me like you are such a genuis on what Giles County needs, you should run for office yourself, rather than bashing all that do. Oh but how silly of me, that would be kind of like having a job-- of which you would not know how to handle. You do now work, but claim to represent the working class, and you do not run for public office (because you could not get elected) and you claim to know how to run every office. At some point you need to face reality and then just shut up.

It looks to me like you are such a genuis on what Giles County needs,

And where did I say or imply this? Cite, please. I seem to recall calling myself a "one trick pony" that knows a lot about zoning, but much less about other issues facing the county. But don't let the truth get in the way of setting up a good smear, okay?

you should run for office yourself, rather than bashing all that do.

You really must have a reading comprehension problem. I certainly haven't bashed "all" who run for office. In fact, I've hardly "bashed" anyone, other than pro-zoners Reedy and Vanzant. You honestly equate the two of them to "all" that run for office??? And what about the people I have said nice things about? Did I "bash" Glenn Gordon? Or does he not count as someone running for office? Please explain this.

Oh but how silly of me, that would be kind of like having a job-- of which you would not know how to handle.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I've held numerous jobs over the years. Right now, I do the books for Pulaski Refrigeration, and provide full time care of my invalid, 80 year old mother. This is not necessarily what I'd consider my job of first choice, but given that the only alternatives are (1) for my mother to die, or (2) for my mother to be put in a nursing home, I hope to be working at this job for many, many years to come.

You do now work,

Of course I work. I may not get paid very much for what I do, but that doesn't mean that I'm not doing anything. And when I'm not waiting on my mother, I spend quite a bit of time working on a project that I expect will pay off handsomely-- my invention of a unique system to build houses from poured concrete. (I'm in the process of patenting this even as we speak.)

...but claim to represent the working class,

Where have I made such a claim? Please do not put words in my mouth. Either produce a cite, or withdraw the claim. Thanks.

and you do not run for public office

That's right. I don't run for public office. Is that now a crime?

(because you could not get elected)

Why would I want to get elected? I don't aspire to be a politician, I assure you. My opinion of most politicians is very, very low, and I don't have any desire to be in their company. Again, is this a crime?

and you claim to know how to run every office.

I do? Where, pray tell, have I ever made such a claim? Please produce a cite, or withdraw this especially stupid claim. Thanks.

At some point you need to face reality and then just shut up.

I'm facing reality quite well, thank you. I'm not making up wild claims about other people, and posting them without an iota of proof. Before you claim that there is a splinter in my eye, you might want to first remove the rather lengthy 2X4 lodged in your own eye.

And as for my "shutting up," I believe that I'll continue to say whatever I want to, whenever I want to, on my own blog. If you want to set up a blog for cowardly anonymous character assassinating liars... then go ahead and so so. I'm sure you'll feel right at home, in such an environment.

We all would be better citizens of this great community and it would be a much better county if there were more people like Mr. McPeters. If you can’t or just choose not to, understand his honesty and intelligences then it is the entire communities lost. Yes, he is a good man and this is so true to anyone that knows the man for who he really is and even you acknowledged that. As for him running a clean race, did you expect anything less of him?
It is a shame Mrs. Vanzant didn’t have the decency to do the same but I guess that is what it takes for one to win an election in this county. You will now be directly serving under her for the next four years and it will be interesting to see if you can at the end of your term, say the same words about her that you said for Mr. Gordon.
Unless she gets professional help or turns to God, I don’t see it happening.

Would anyone be interested in petitioning the radio station to broadcast the commissioners meetings as they did some years ago. I feel this could be a solution to the fact that most Giles Countians feel that they are either misinformed or simply not informed at all as to the goings on with our county government. For whatever reason, there seem to be lots of people who simply cannot attend these meetings, yet they are very interested in the decisions that are being made on their behalf. If anyone has any ideas as to how we can better accomodate the citizens of our county concerning this matter, please contact me as I am willing to help in resolving this matter in any way I can. Unless my math skills are not what I thought they were, you have excluded all but 6 who are capable. That would mean that in your opinion, even a few of the newly elected commissioners (Which have not been given the opportunity to prove themselves as of yet) have already been judged. Why not give them a fair chance and then make your decision? If we continue to have no faith in our officials, how then can we expect to ever accomplish the goals that we all strive to achieve for our great community? I simply ask that you at least give them a chance before you pass judgement. Please know that Tommy would be glad to speak with you about any concerns you might have. He is a newcomer to this job but I must say he has the best interest of the citizens of Giles County in mind. You know the old saying "You can't fix it if you aren't aware it is broken". Please feel free to contact Tommy if he can be of help to you. You may reach him at 931-732-4385. I will also add that in speaking with Terry Hughes , James Harwell, Wendell Wilburn, and Alan Faulkner, just to mention a few, they are all anxious to hear from the citizens and work together in order to serve them to the best of their ability. I truely believe that these commissioners are capable of restoring trust and integrity to our county government.

Why did the veteran’s group back Vanzant and don’t give the story about her buying the van. For your information, the commissioners voted unanimously to purchase that van for your group and Mrs. Vanzant DID NOT want to buy it. Did she take the credit and convince everyone she was the one that bought it for you? If so, she LIED again!

To anonymous

Paranoia is a psychological disturbance that manifest itself in "undue suspicion". That is the most basic and simple discription.
I used the term for you and all those who see themselves at the center of some dark plot, where everything is directed toward their unhappiness or destruction.
The simple matter is you should lighten up and laugh at things a bit more because you really aren't so important that the world is plotting against you.

To The Paranoia Expert: I really don't understand how anyone could be suspicious about how you feel regarding the braodcasting of the commission meetings. It seemed very clear to me when you stated it would be a "joke" to broadcast them. However in your next posting you stated that "I am 100% in favor of broadcasting the meetings". You also suggested to the poster that they "stop laughing", but then said they should "lighten up a bit and laugh at things more". I must say that I would have to agree with the earlier poster who thinks that just maybe you should give the newly elected officials a chance to prove themselves before you make such negative statements. Who knows, you just might be pleasantly surprised with the new group of commissioners if you will just give them a chance. I am sure you would agree with me that such negativity is of no benefit to anyone.

You need to re-read what I posted about the broadcast of meetings. I never referred to the meetings as a joke. The topic I responded to was about the meetings not being broadcast because the management of the radio station seems to feel they are not good radio.
My belief is that just as with the early days of radio and even till today situation comedies, in all their absurdness, have been an entertainment mainstay.
Do you not think it would be funny to hear a commissioner ask, "now what did I just vote on"? How about a school board member telling the world that "the school director dosen't get any money from the county, he's paid by the state". As for giving the new commissioners a chance, that doesn't sound unreasonable except that at least two were commissioners before and neither ever submitted a single clearly written and appropriate resolution in their full term. Wait and see about the others some of whom had not attended a single Commission and committee meeting prior to their election.

I thought we were talking about businesses owned by people who are from out of town. Again, they don't run around here with all their smartness trying to tell us what is best for us. So, the point is?

The point is, are you so sure and based on what?

The point is that you obviously have no point after all. We were not talking about bankers telling people how to live their lives. We were not talking about owners of Intermet and Home Depot (merely examples of businesses) telling us how to live. We were talking about individuals here who think themselves so smart that they ought to be able to tell people how to live and what is best for them.

Back to the original post of asking WKSR to expose this post. The Rose Family is like the Cardins and Rackley's. They think they own the town and don't want to share it. Get used to it guys. As I said earlier- This is a dirty, dirty town- or as an earlier post was titled, " A Ghost Town." unless you have "The Name" and the money. The Roses wouldn't want any competition now would they?

Such jealousy and envy.

No jealousy here- Just stating the facts. I have more money(inherited) than the Roses, Rackleys, Cardins, Spiveys, etc, but I don't try to control or intimidate the lives of others because of it.
Mr. McPeters, take out a full page ad in the Pulaski paper about your new blog. It will be well worth the money. There are very few people who know about this blog, and once it's publicized, I'm sure the people of this county will be thrilled to voice their opinions without fear of retrubation from the few rich and powerful that I'm supposedly jealous of.

Noticed that I misspelled a word and know that someone will say somthing smart about it. "Retrubution" from the rich and powerful.
Didn't want anyone to say that all my money meant nothing because I don't know how to spell. Just something for someone to make a smart remark about from what I've seen on here.

While some of you are so busy hating the rich.....consider this...were it not for them, many of us wouldn't have a job or the means of enjoying the lifestyles we have. And while you are hating them, also consider where the hatred originated.....most likely from the democrats. That IS their platform and their way of frightening you into voting for them. But, the fact is, they are the ones who keep people in chains of poverty by throwing them an occasional "entitlements" bone. Do they ask you to strive for perfection and achievement? NO! They suggest that you hate the ones who have. Think.

Wasn't it William Jefferson Blythe Clinton who is mainly responsible for this class envy and hatred we are seeing so much of today? I think so.

And don't forget to add Al Gore (the so-called Tennesseean) to that mix.

To anonymous of Oct. 15
Here's a question for you. Would you favor a redistribution of your wealth to those who are less fortunate?

Well, now that the democrats are "in power" look for the rich or wealthy to get a thorough soaking. That's when the economy heads South. They despise those who have put it on the line and have become wealthy, and they want them penalized for excellence and achievement. That is a disgrace in a country founded on such principles as personal freedom and responsibility, entrepreneurship, and the like. Oh well, they want what's "fair and feels good", so beware! And when they glamp down on those evil wealthy people, jobs will be lost soon thereafter. Can you see a chain reaction in that?Perhaps the dems need to take a refresher or introductory course in Reaganomics 101? If you are an independent businessperson who has a little money, they will have you give it to the government so they can best spend it for you. I hope time proves me wrong, but it hasn't in the past.
