What do you all think about Dan Speer buying himself a brand new 4X4, V8 Ford Explorer to go with his new job? And was this purchase made at the taxpayer's expense?

What bothers everyone is that they did not look elsewhere for an EDC Director they put the Mayor of Pulaski in there-who by the way has made the statement he wants Pulaski to be a retirement town! So why will he want new industry in here-he doesn't he took the position to chase more off!!!!!!

Regardless of the vehicle he drives, how many parking spaces does Dan Speer require? He has an assigned space on the north side of City Hall yet he consistantly parks in front of City Hall. Is his assigned space too far for him to walk? Is he lazy? Or, as i suspect, is he just too good for normal people and follow the rules?

What really get me is Dan, as Mayor, gets mad when an employee of City Hall parks in fron of City Hall, yet it is appropriate for him?

Yup, there are those who must follow the rules and there are those who do so when convenient.

To GH and Anonymous of Poking fun of southerners,
This poem for you both, that are not nice to Chuckles!

I woke early one morning,
The earth lay cool and still
When suddenly a tiny bird
Perched on my window sill,
He sang a song so lovely
So carefree and so gay,
That slowly all my troubles
Began to slip away.
He sang of far off places
Of laughter and of fun,
It seemed his very trilling,
Brought up the morning sun.
I stirred beneath the covers
Crept slowly our of bed,
Then gently shut the window
And crushed his little head.

I’m not a morning person or a fan of people that make smart-aleck remarks to people that are trying to be funny and bring some humor to this blog!!!

I am an attorney and was in the courtroom for the hearings and the trial. I wasn't at the school board meeting but I did listen to the school board tape of the meeting. If there was ever a clear cut abuse of power that was it. I don't know what else those men have done but in this situation they were victims and the jury was right to laught this whole thing out of court with not guilty on all counts. The board owes them an apology and appreciation for not suing the county, city and board.

when we are forunate enough to have an industrial prospect visit our community, it is important that we make a very good first impression. our unemployment rate is about 8%. it would seem that people would be more concerned about job creation than nit picking about a new vehicle for the economic director. don't ask what the community can do for you, ask what you can do for your community. then do it.

The big deal is people are tired of city/county officals taking advantage of tax payer dollars and if this vehicle was bought with tax payer money-SHAME.

Our children have no business wiping down tables in the cafeteria. That is what the cafeteria workers are suppose to do. I know I don't want my children to have their hands in bleach and other types of chemicals not to mention wiping their hands on their clothes only to ruin them. Who came up with this bright idea anyway? Just goes to show you that we have no idea what are children are being exposed to when they are in our care. You can bet that if that was my child someone would be held accountable starting with Mr. Jackson. We are paying a salary to those individuals that are responsible to clean up after our children and my question is why aren't they doing their job instead of making our children. Our children are there to get an education not major in the custodial arts.

I am responding to this because it is a great concern to me. However, we need to start a heading to get others inputs and experiences with the giles county schools unhealthy sanitation issues.

Of course, those wearing rubber gloves to eat natural foods fertalized with cow & chicken dung would be horrified to get near just a tweench of chlorox. It might wipe out the good bacteria that twiddles their tongue. Liberalism is much more than a mental disorder.

My children attended Pulaski Elementary and they wiped tables and I had no problem with it. They did not catch anything. All that letter was for was complaining because one parent was upset because their child had to clean up after others. This practice has been at Pulaski Elementary for I know 16 years and i not sure howlong before that. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!!!!!!!
If people want to complain, please try and complain about something that will make something better. Why don't they compalin about the way the children dress or talk or even the way some act that would be alot more constructive than compalining because their child was made to wipe down a table.

My children were taught at home as well to clean-up after themselves. Nothing wrong with being responsible for your messes. However, they put the labels on bottles of chlorox and other chemicals to "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN". Wonder why that is?? Does it require that much thought to realize why someone would not want their child to have their hands doused in chlorox. Whenever I use a chemical in my home to clean with I always wear gloves to protect my skin. Reason being.....it can damage your skin. Children's skin is delicate and should not be exposed to such chemicals.
Sounds like the responses to my comments regarding this issue may be coming from "SASSY" teachers. Perhaps, the one or ones in question that allow our children to submerge their hands in these chemicals. Again, the point of the matter is..children should not be exposed to these chemicals and also that is what we pay cafeteria workers to do. Or are they above what their job description requires of them? What next? Are our children going to be mopping the floors? Sanitizing the nasty bathrooms? Scrubbring toilets? I know for a fact that after these children dip their hands in this nasty bleach water they have no way to clean their hands in the student bathrooms. Someone needs to look into why we don't have soap in the bathrooms of our schools. People need to pull their heads out of the sand here and look at the problems in the schools where sanitation is an issue among many other issues. What about the staph infection coming out of Richland Elementary? Yeah, no one wants that one to get out. Perhaps, the health dept. should get involved. If that doesn't help it needs to be taken to the next level. Above all else, Mr. Jackson should be taking our children's health and welfare seriously. He needs to get his mind off the politics and "new central office" and get back to the business at hand. Who is looking out for our children when they are not in our care and in the care of the school system? We have a lot of good teachers, but we also have alot that turn a blind eye because they are so miserable in their jobs because of this present administration.

Chlorine, like Maybelene, is a deadly substance. If Maybelene gets after you - look out! When the Germans hooked up with Chlorine in WWI a whole lot of people got killed & maimed. Chlorine also kills germs that would otherwise kill you. When mixed with sodium, it produces salt (yummmie). Eat too much of it ... stroke time, & you roll over ... kaput ... end of worries. Put sodium chloride in a cut, it burns, but probably wipes the infection critters out. Choride & even Flouride are in your city water to keep the little pond waste varmints out of your tummy - Choice - chloride or varmints with lots of Charmin & Dr. bills. If you were countryfied you'd be thinking of fun thing rather than germs. Chloride is everywhere. Properly diluted & respected, it's a real good thing to have around. If the rug rat is old enough to be in school all day, ride a bike or drive to & from that place of political correctness & sometimes learnin', they should be versed in chloroxocology - how to put water in it & how to make sure mommy doesn't take a bath in it like michael Jackson did. (wonder if they're related) Why not lighten up a bit, grab a bud lite, step on the cat's tail, toss the beer down the hatch, and pretend there's some sanity in this world. If you don't start smilin' & laughin' a little, you're gonna turn into a frog.

Heck while we are at it why don't we have them wipe the defacation off the walls in the bathrooms while we are having them wipe up the puke off the cafeteria tables. I mean afterall, if you add a little bleach surely it will kill all the little germies? Then our kiddies hands will smell of feces and bleach. Now that would smell lovely. You always have a smart A@# out there who wants to enlighten us with their ignorance like the above poster who doesn't want to take serious any issue or concern anyone brings to the table. Laugh, make jokes, but when your child or grandchild becomes ill or their clothes ruined because of the unsanitary conditions and unwilling to have the people do the jobs they are hired to do, we will see who laughs. Perhaps, when their clothes are ruined because of getting bleach on them we can charge the cost of purchasing more clothes to the school system. Hmmm wonder if Mr. Jackson's expense account will cover that?? Just a thought! :)

I once had a delightful student who DID wipe his feces on the bathroom wall. He also once left a nice little present on my carpeted floor.
This is NOT the fault of the school faculty and staff! The staff did have to clean it up, too. If there is blame, it mostly lies within the parents. I certainly would have preferred that he do his business in the toilet, wipe his bottom, and flush - like most people do.

P.S. I also once had a student who threw up in his cafeteria tray several times per week. It is silly to think that a student would be asked to clean this up. You failed in making your point.

P.S.S. I also had a student who threw up, today, on a carpeted floor. The janitor cleaned it up.

Uh.......it is my understanding that kids voluntarily do things in schools like cleaning tables with warm soapy water, putting up chairs so floors can be swept and mopped, etc. Does this not teach citizenship and teamwork? Oh no, we can't have that! We need to call in OSHA and perhaps the ACLU and have this matter investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! The nerve of those teachers allowing this to happen. Being facetious here, but you catch my drift.

If WAB wants to be a leader in the community, which I don't think will ever happen, he needs to persuade in such a matter that he doesn't offend or alienate people. He can not do that!

I don't care if you don't like his personality, remember how sweet Ted Bundy was, it's the facts he keeps exposing not what you think his personality is that makes Mr. Barret a valuable asset to this county. Please be encouraged Mr. Barret don't let the dogs nipping at your heels take your mind off what's right. Many more are grateful to you than are against you.

My thought is that those who are against must know something or be close to someone in authority which or whom they do not want to be exposed. The facts are there for all to see and hear. Problem is, some people don't want to believe the facts. They'd rather hide their heads in the sand of ignorance.

What is wrong anyway? I heard it was a real fiasco at that meeting at that not only Mr. Barrett was out of line, but so was Mr. Gonzales. I'm fairly certain that, in hindsight, Mr. Gonzales rues the day he didn't allow those two to get up and say their piece and sit down.

Anonymous, Tuesday, October 03, 2006 7:15:39 AM I think there is an audio recording of that meeting and that is probably why they were found not guilty.
You are right Gonzales should have let them say what was on their minds and there would have been no problem. I didn’t attend that meeting but I did another and Gonzales and Kennedy did not conduct themselves in a professional manner when Mr. Barrett and Chris Morris ask to speak. It was almost comical.

“You stated, “I have never finished fourth in a four horse race?”

I haven’t figured out just what your problem is yet, but by the tone of your post I can tell it is personal. So, why don’t you just spit it out and get it over with and while you are at it, just tell us where you finished in your race?

You stated, “I will say that since he has toned it down, he has become slightly more credible. I hope that he keeps it up.”

You are working way too hard posting to keep Mr. Barrett’s mouth shut and I am beginning to wonder what it is you don’t want him to find out and speak about.

You state, “Only you gullible ones fall for his propaganda and hype.”

For your information I am not gullible and don’t find his “comments” as propaganda. If you will take the time and research the information he writes about, before you start complaining, you will find truth in his post. Why don’t you try that for a change and please spare us anymore of your snips about horse races. Just to prove to you I am not gullible, I know you are trying to shut Mr. Barrett up for good!!

Here is my challenge to you. I have offered this one before and we got stuck on #2.
What HAS MR.BARRETT BEEN WRONG ABOUT? (I'll list the first one to get you going then you can pick it up from there.)
#1. Mr. Barrett thought the people of Giles Co. were ready for a change and would elect him Commissioner.

Tuesday, October 17, 2006 7:00:00 AM

Facts, facts from me?
1.Mr. Barrett is always right. (Proof: check the transcript from his trial)
2. George Bush won the election. (Proof: check the election results)
3. There is not enough evidence to support global warming. (Proof: listen to Al Gore speak)
4.People attack Mr.Barrett because they are afraid of him. (Proof: read the blog)
5. Mr.Barrett and Mr. Winkles should sue the city and school board for every penny they have. (Proof: check the transcript)
6. The school board controls the county. (Proof: look around)
7. Tax dollars are not used the way they should be used. (Proof: look around)
8. The city is responsible for the spill in Richland Creek. (Proof: check the contract signed by the city)

It's not about the facts that we have. It's about people contesting the facts of others when they have no facts of their own. When thir only defense is I don't like the guy. It's like asking what difference does it make if you show up for battle on a donkey or horse as long as you show up, then dislike someone because of the way they relay the truth. The statement should be "It does'nt matter how Mr. Barrett speaks the truth as long as he speaks the truth".

What happened to the subject? this is the problem with Blogs. Everyone gets off the subject so easily! So, the mayor gets a new vehicle. Has any other mayor gotten one? Has any other EDC dirctor gotten such an elaborate one if they got one? Have you also noticed there is free parking in front of Dan Speer's insurance business and 2 hour everywhere else? If you don't like what's happening in the city government, why to do the people of Pulaski keep putting him in office? If you don't want him in office, get in your vehicle and take people who won't go to the polls to vote there yourself. It's done everyone else if you want someone else to win. Then again, no one will run against him for some reason. Why? Scared?
