Congratulations to All Emergency Responders
As the County Commission was opened this morning an expression of gratitude was expressed by The County Executive, Mrs Vanzant, for the outstanding effort put forth by all the members of the Sheriff's office, Ambulance and Rescue Squads, the Emergency Management Team and all who participated in the work of dealing with the tragic situation this past week in the Milky Way area. This expression of gratitude was followed appropriately by a standing ovation by all present.
Having been in similar situations in past times I know personally the difficulty of being at such a scene. The harsh reality of the situation often isn't fully felt until later when there's time to do more than just react. For those directly involved they would probably tell you they were just doing their job, doing what they were trained to do but for the rest of us they are heroes who made some great sacrifices and will continue to bear the effects of such a thing for years to come. These people are very deserving of our gratitude and support. Allen Barrett

Good Post. They sure have my gratitude and support in what they do. I know this past tragic had to be hard on them.
I forgot to say Mrs. Vanzant did a good thing.
I know that this had to affect all that were involved in the investigation, recovery of bodies and the arrest. I hope that coucilling is available for those that need it. My heart goes out to all of these families even those involved in the crime. It is hard for me to understand how this could happen over a girl. How do teenagers get to this point?
yes thank you to all the workers that had to pick up the aftermath~and for what they must be dealing with in seeing this tragedy~we can never thank them enough for helping this county EVERY Day~thanks guys & gals
Amen.
I know that this community is a great one. We all have our faults and may disagree over many issues, but when tragedy strikes, I believe we are there for one another.
Here's my take on why teenagers progress to such low levels of psychoses. I believe it's all tied to liberalism and the leftist lawmakers in this country. God was successfully expelled from public schools, and it's all gone downhill from there. The ACLU and liberal judges have enabled kids to listen to music (if you could call it that) in which they are told its OK to kill cops, parents, or anyone else they don't like. Add to the mix the fact that so many parents just plain don't care what their kids are doing. Church is no longer fashionable and those who continue to embrace Christian values are laughed at and called archaic in their thinking. Oh, but it's perfectly acceptable to have a gay and lesbian club, I suppose.
At the Memorial Tuesday Night, it was the family's request to not dwell on the negative but believe in the Lord and know that Desiree and her two sons are at peace. Desiree was a fine Christian young lady who would do anything for anybody and loved her family very much. God be with her Father and Mother and all the emeregency workers who were there during this time. Remember all the good memories of Desiree, Jarred and Anthony! We will miss you!
This was such a tragic crime! It is hard to understand why or how anyone could do such a horrible thing. I can only imagine the nightmares those who worked the scene will have. We are fortunate to have so many caring people in our community who are willing to risk their lives to help people in emergency situations. I pray for them... for the loss and grief the family and friends of the Thornton family are feeling, and also for those who committed this crime... they must be so lost to be able to do such a thing. I also pray for the families of William and Matthew...how horrible this must be for them as well! We need prayer... we need God... His strength is the only thing that will get us through this time of fear and sadness. I take comfort in knowing that Desiree, Jerrod, and Anthony were all christians and that they have already reached their eternal home!
I fell for all the families involved. They have all lost their children. I pray that some good will come of this. Maybe some children will be so moved by this that they will turn to God. Satan had a big hand in this but God will open his arms to all that turn to Him. We need to pray for all that have been involved in this. The emergency, law enforcement and investigators have done a great job on this.
I know first hand some of the nightmares that the emergency responders are having. It is something they will think about for the rest of their lives. I would like to thank all involved for doing such a fine, professional job. I know that they have worked round the clock on this case and continue to do so. I pray for all families of the emergency responders involved from the Rescue Squad, Sheriffs Department, The teams out of Nashville that assisted and any others including the families of those that were involved someway, somehow including those responsible...Please continue to pray, God only knows this county needs prayer at this time of such a tragedy.
I can only imagine what these workers are going through. I appreciate the work that these folks do every day not just during this time. God give them comfort. I hope that counseling is available for those that wish. That is the least we can do for them. I also wish for comfort for the families of the young men involved in the crime.
Yes pray for the workers, and hope swift retribution comes to the animals that savaged an entire family. That school is cursed.
5:46, these two young men accused of this crime are not animals, they are human beings, they are somebody's sons. We are so quick to dismiss those who commit horrid acts of violence as animals or demons or in some way sub-human or non-human. The reality is that two young men were so disturbed that they allegedly committed these crimes. What we need to do as a community is pray for ALL the families involved and search deep within ourselves for the reason why two memebers of our own community would commit this horrible act of violence and murder.
Make excuses for them, wonder what if Desere's family agrees with those 'poor disturbed souls'
. Yes they are somebody's sons and so were the victims, someone's loved ones..
wab...
Can you now see why this thread should NOT have been started? I doubt it, but just thought I'd ask.
Your logic is so shallow, should we stop automobiles being manufactured because some people will have wrecks in them?
This thread was started to honor all the emergency responders and I appreciate it, how can it be WAB's fault if a few comments are not in keeping with that purpose. You just used it to take another unfounded swipe at WAB. Do you know of any other public forum where the public can personally express their appreciation, I didn't think so.
No one is making excuses for them. They should be prosecuted and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. I just don't think they are animals.
8:01
Wrong. Actually, I was just concerned about the families of those involved. I'm sure they would not appreciate the situation being discussed on a public forum. Would you?
I wouldn't want my childs picture on the front page of the paper or my child in the morgue with their throat cut either. Trying to use this tragedy and insincere concern for the families in you effort to shut down this blog and public interaction is shameful.
1:05
You misunderstood my motive for saying the families of the victims on either side would not appreciate a discussion and debate about the tragedy. Again, would you want that if you were in their positions? I doubt it.
By the way, I never said I wanted the blog shut down as you so falsely accuse. That was not mentioned at all.
You are so ambiguous that it's hard to understand what you mean guess that comes from talking out both sides of your mouth.
The matter isn't to be decided by the families it's a matter that has affected all of the county and talking through such things is always a help, and beside that this was a thread about expressing appreciation to the emergency responders.
As for wanting this blog shut down while you didn't say it in your latest blab you have made it very clear in other blabs that is what you would like to have happen.
8:48
Then talk in generalities and leave the affected families alone. Haven't they been hurt enough? I think so.
Now, let me address the issue you seem to be making about my wanting this blog shut down. YES, I have in the past said it should be shut down because all it does is cause more strife, hatred, distrust, and division that did NOT used to be here. I didn't say a word about it on the recent post. You came up with that one on your own.
Here's a question for you. Am I not entitled to my opinion the same as you are to yours? Please answer. Thanks.
No one cares about your opinions. Your opinions are a part of what is ruining Giles County. Some of your opinions cost the tax payers every day.
7:08
I won't even atempt to explain to you my love for and concern for Giles County. But my opinions are just as good and valid as yours. You foolishly say mine don't matter, because they are not the same as yours.
This is so childish. Ok, your turn.
When your opinions cost the tax payers money, they can't be too good. You seem to think everyone is deaf, dumb, and blind when it comes to you. You would't be on here if you weren't afraid of what an investigation would uncover about you.
7:35
You are delirious. I am a private citizen who has absolutely nothing to hide by your investigation. Furthermore, it's people like you who think those who oppose what you are doing are the ones who are deaf, dumb, and blind. Oh, but let's not stop there. We could add things like mentally lazy, apathetic, and ebablers of evil and wrongdoings. Sheesh; don't you have anything else to do?
You are not a private citizen!
7:24
Then you aren't either!

wab...
Can you now see why this thread should NOT have been started? I doubt it, but just thought I'd ask.
Where do you get this from? Because 2 people disagree about something, it shouldn't be discussed? The way your mind works is something left to others, but understand this, do you not think that almost everyone in Giles County is discussing this? Either at home, at work, or at the local pub? It has been discussed this at my house on more than one occasion. This thread is about thanking all facets of EMS for Giles County. There is nothing negative to be said about this thread. I for one am extremely proud of the way all county and city agencies performed during this horrible time. Don't turn something good into something bad by succmbing to your usual petty meanderings.
Brad, you need to look at it from the victims side. And no, the perpetrators are not victims, they are criminals, murderers, thugs. Let it go.
deadman...
I believe you need to find yourself a job. You totally misunderstood my intentions when I stated this family matter should NOT be discussed on a public blog such as this one. Would you appreciate that if you were part of the family? Could you extrapolate that?
This has NOTHING to do with two people who might disagree. Get a job or a hobby and then a life!
I think that everyone should just ignore what this poster has to say. She only wants to argue about anything except the topic. She is only trying to get at Mr. Barrett and acusing him of everything that she can.
7:26
You have been on several threads today asking your cohorts to ignore her. My, oh my; you are so totally confused. Well, you may ignore "her", but you don't seem to be able to ignore this guy. But look at this realistically. Were it not for me, this so-called free speech blog would die a swift and certain death.
Then why don't you shut up and let it die?
Fortunately I do have gainful employment in these trying times. As for hobbies, mine is just irritating you.
deadm,an...
One of your buddies who posted just above me asked that I shut up and let this blog die. You guys really don't want that, because you would have to search for another source of drama and contention for your lives.
You don't irritate me. I enjoy putting you in your place. Maybe I will need a hobby when this thing finally folds up. This one is a bit boring when people like you are not posting the usual griping and complaining about how wrong everybody is...other than you who hold all the answers.
I rest my case. Enjoy your day neighbor.
deadman...
Does that mean that you will not be posting anything further? That's your choice.
I think it is a disgrace to biker on and on about nothiung. This was supposed to praise our emergency personal responders about the three horrible deaths and yet some of you just bicker on and on about nothing. Have some sympathy for the family at least.

mary...
This thread never should have been started to begin with or at least could have been introduced with no mention of the families. We can discusss our appreciation for these brave people whose jobs are often thankless without one word being mentioned about the families who have been hurt so badly already. Wouldn't you agree with that? I call it compassion.
6:16:00 AM You need to read Barrett's post again. The only person mentioned was Vanzant and something nice was said about her.
Even that made you mad.
There was nothing wrong with this thread.
You need to see a doctor. This was a good thread.
I feel sorry for the families involved. There is no way for that not to come out.
Was it wrong for the paper to tell two 911 calls came in, one for a fire and one for someone being burned?

9:16
I do see a doctor regularly, but thanks for the suggestion.
I totally disagree with you about the comparison of this "blog" with the newspaper coverage of the tragedy. All I was trying to say (and you got mad) is that I don't think this sort of thing should be put out there on a public forum for people to discuss when there are people hurting. Again, I call tthat compassion for my fellow man.
Nothing wrong with thanking the emergency crew.
I'm not mad just laughing at you.

This thread was a compliment to all the Emergency Services personnel in Giles County. Nothing said in the initial thread nothing was about the families. Things were said about the situation in the responses, however, you say that this is not the place to talk about it because it is a public place? Please, what about those on the square, or at the local restraunts etc. Do you not think peole are discussing this around town? It was a horrible tragedy and people need to vent their own feelings, whether they were involved or not. Just because this tragedy is being discussed, whether it is here or on a public street, we are still being compassionate. How dare you accuse people of that, your insensate remarks are more devoid of compassion than anything said here. However, i am trying to turn over a new leaf, let me again thank all Emergency Services in giles County, you are al truly unsung heroes.
deadman...
From your post, I find it hard to believe that you are "turning over a new leaf". Look, I didn't accuse anyone of anything. How dare YOU!!
I suppose, in the final analysis, your definition of compassion and mine are polar opposites.
Sure, people will talk about the tragedy in coffee shops, beauty salons, etc. But they don't have to do that on a blog. THAT was my concern, so please know you are mistaken when you imply that I am uncaring and insensitive. And for those who do an often thankless job, they truly are among my heroes.
To 7:22am please just let people say their Thanks to the people who deserve it and their prayers for the families. It is a shame that people cannot even say thanks anymore without someone interrupting. Thank you to all the men and women who serve and protect Giles County and my thoughts and prayers are with all the families involved.
Those people ARE my heroes as I just said. I can do that without getting into any discussion of the tragedy, can't I?
Tragedy is not a dirty word.
Just don't mention names.
Houses have caught fire from different reasons and burned people that were asleep in them. Our emergency crew has to clean up the aftermath of those burned.
They are wonderful people that do that and I appreciate them.
Thank you Emergency Crew.
Mr. Barrett, thank you for this blog to honor them.

You are right, I am not turning over a new leaf. What you need to understand though is whether I do or not, you will not change me, and I will fight to keep these threads on track. So do you have anything else to say about Giles county Emergency Services, remember, we are being compassionate and not talking about the families. So don't bring it back around to them.
True compassion would be hanging Woods and Angel on Lynnville's Town Sq..Nuff said..
deadman...
Look, I have already said at least twice that those people are my heroes as well. In all your arrogance, you can't claim that only for yourself and a few others you think are smart enough to appreciate the fine work these inidviduals do. OK?
Nah, I knew you wouldn't be turning over any "new leaves" anytime soon. You see, a leopard never changes his spots.
You go ahead on with your fighting for topic adherence, but please allow me the right to speak my mind as well.
Robert Garner who killed Mrs. Wilburn went to school....where!!!!!Richland!!!!
