Congratulations to All Emergency Responders

As the County Commission was opened this morning an expression of gratitude was expressed by The County Executive, Mrs Vanzant, for the outstanding effort put forth by all the members of the Sheriff's office, Ambulance and Rescue Squads, the Emergency Management Team and all who participated in the work of dealing with the tragic situation this past week in the Milky Way area. This expression of gratitude was followed appropriately by a standing ovation by all present.
Having been in similar situations in past times I know personally the difficulty of being at such a scene. The harsh reality of the situation often isn't fully felt until later when there's time to do more than just react. For those directly involved they would probably tell you they were just doing their job, doing what they were trained to do but for the rest of us they are heroes who made some great sacrifices and will continue to bear the effects of such a thing for years to come. These people are very deserving of our gratitude and support. Allen Barrett

I know that this had to affect all that were involved in the investigation, recovery of bodies and the arrest. I hope that coucilling is available for those that need it. My heart goes out to all of these families even those involved in the crime. It is hard for me to understand how this could happen over a girl. How do teenagers get to this point?

I know that this community is a great one. We all have our faults and may disagree over many issues, but when tragedy strikes, I believe we are there for one another.

Here's my take on why teenagers progress to such low levels of psychoses. I believe it's all tied to liberalism and the leftist lawmakers in this country. God was successfully expelled from public schools, and it's all gone downhill from there. The ACLU and liberal judges have enabled kids to listen to music (if you could call it that) in which they are told its OK to kill cops, parents, or anyone else they don't like. Add to the mix the fact that so many parents just plain don't care what their kids are doing. Church is no longer fashionable and those who continue to embrace Christian values are laughed at and called archaic in their thinking. Oh, but it's perfectly acceptable to have a gay and lesbian club, I suppose.

At the Memorial Tuesday Night, it was the family's request to not dwell on the negative but believe in the Lord and know that Desiree and her two sons are at peace. Desiree was a fine Christian young lady who would do anything for anybody and loved her family very much. God be with her Father and Mother and all the emeregency workers who were there during this time. Remember all the good memories of Desiree, Jarred and Anthony! We will miss you!

This was such a tragic crime! It is hard to understand why or how anyone could do such a horrible thing. I can only imagine the nightmares those who worked the scene will have. We are fortunate to have so many caring people in our community who are willing to risk their lives to help people in emergency situations. I pray for them... for the loss and grief the family and friends of the Thornton family are feeling, and also for those who committed this crime... they must be so lost to be able to do such a thing. I also pray for the families of William and Matthew...how horrible this must be for them as well! We need prayer... we need God... His strength is the only thing that will get us through this time of fear and sadness. I take comfort in knowing that Desiree, Jerrod, and Anthony were all christians and that they have already reached their eternal home!

I fell for all the families involved. They have all lost their children. I pray that some good will come of this. Maybe some children will be so moved by this that they will turn to God. Satan had a big hand in this but God will open his arms to all that turn to Him. We need to pray for all that have been involved in this. The emergency, law enforcement and investigators have done a great job on this.

I know first hand some of the nightmares that the emergency responders are having. It is something they will think about for the rest of their lives. I would like to thank all involved for doing such a fine, professional job. I know that they have worked round the clock on this case and continue to do so. I pray for all families of the emergency responders involved from the Rescue Squad, Sheriffs Department, The teams out of Nashville that assisted and any others including the families of those that were involved someway, somehow including those responsible...Please continue to pray, God only knows this county needs prayer at this time of such a tragedy.

I can only imagine what these workers are going through. I appreciate the work that these folks do every day not just during this time. God give them comfort. I hope that counseling is available for those that wish. That is the least we can do for them. I also wish for comfort for the families of the young men involved in the crime.

5:46, these two young men accused of this crime are not animals, they are human beings, they are somebody's sons. We are so quick to dismiss those who commit horrid acts of violence as animals or demons or in some way sub-human or non-human. The reality is that two young men were so disturbed that they allegedly committed these crimes. What we need to do as a community is pray for ALL the families involved and search deep within ourselves for the reason why two memebers of our own community would commit this horrible act of violence and murder.

This thread was started to honor all the emergency responders and I appreciate it, how can it be WAB's fault if a few comments are not in keeping with that purpose. You just used it to take another unfounded swipe at WAB. Do you know of any other public forum where the public can personally express their appreciation, I didn't think so.

You misunderstood my motive for saying the families of the victims on either side would not appreciate a discussion and debate about the tragedy. Again, would you want that if you were in their positions? I doubt it.
By the way, I never said I wanted the blog shut down as you so falsely accuse. That was not mentioned at all.

You are so ambiguous that it's hard to understand what you mean guess that comes from talking out both sides of your mouth.
The matter isn't to be decided by the families it's a matter that has affected all of the county and talking through such things is always a help, and beside that this was a thread about expressing appreciation to the emergency responders.
As for wanting this blog shut down while you didn't say it in your latest blab you have made it very clear in other blabs that is what you would like to have happen.

Then talk in generalities and leave the affected families alone. Haven't they been hurt enough? I think so.
Now, let me address the issue you seem to be making about my wanting this blog shut down. YES, I have in the past said it should be shut down because all it does is cause more strife, hatred, distrust, and division that did NOT used to be here. I didn't say a word about it on the recent post. You came up with that one on your own.
Here's a question for you. Am I not entitled to my opinion the same as you are to yours? Please answer. Thanks.

Where do you get this from? Because 2 people disagree about something, it shouldn't be discussed? The way your mind works is something left to others, but understand this, do you not think that almost everyone in Giles County is discussing this? Either at home, at work, or at the local pub? It has been discussed this at my house on more than one occasion. This thread is about thanking all facets of EMS for Giles County. There is nothing negative to be said about this thread. I for one am extremely proud of the way all county and city agencies performed during this horrible time. Don't turn something good into something bad by succmbing to your usual petty meanderings.

Brad, you need to look at it from the victims side. And no, the perpetrators are not victims, they are criminals, murderers, thugs. Let it go.

This thread never should have been started to begin with or at least could have been introduced with no mention of the families. We can discusss our appreciation for these brave people whose jobs are often thankless without one word being mentioned about the families who have been hurt so badly already. Wouldn't you agree with that? I call it compassion.

6:16:00 AM You need to read Barrett's post again. The only person mentioned was Vanzant and something nice was said about her.
Even that made you mad.
There was nothing wrong with this thread.

You need to see a doctor. This was a good thread.

I feel sorry for the families involved. There is no way for that not to come out.

Was it wrong for the paper to tell two 911 calls came in, one for a fire and one for someone being burned?

I totally disagree with you about the comparison of this "blog" with the newspaper coverage of the tragedy. All I was trying to say (and you got mad) is that I don't think this sort of thing should be put out there on a public forum for people to discuss when there are people hurting. Again, I call tthat compassion for my fellow man.

This thread was a compliment to all the Emergency Services personnel in Giles County. Nothing said in the initial thread nothing was about the families. Things were said about the situation in the responses, however, you say that this is not the place to talk about it because it is a public place? Please, what about those on the square, or at the local restraunts etc. Do you not think peole are discussing this around town? It was a horrible tragedy and people need to vent their own feelings, whether they were involved or not. Just because this tragedy is being discussed, whether it is here or on a public street, we are still being compassionate. How dare you accuse people of that, your insensate remarks are more devoid of compassion than anything said here. However, i am trying to turn over a new leaf, let me again thank all Emergency Services in giles County, you are al truly unsung heroes.

From your post, I find it hard to believe that you are "turning over a new leaf". Look, I didn't accuse anyone of anything. How dare YOU!!
I suppose, in the final analysis, your definition of compassion and mine are polar opposites.
Sure, people will talk about the tragedy in coffee shops, beauty salons, etc. But they don't have to do that on a blog. THAT was my concern, so please know you are mistaken when you imply that I am uncaring and insensitive. And for those who do an often thankless job, they truly are among my heroes.
