Now Many Lawsuits Are There Against The County???

On page 56 of the Giles County Audit For 2008 this paragraph is listed.
"D. CONTINGENT LIABILITIES: The county is involved in several pending lawsuits. The county attorney has not responded to our request to provide estimates of the potential claims not covered by insurance. However, management believes that any claims resulting from such ligation would not materially affect the county's financial statement."

Several questions come to mind as a result of this statement by the state auditor;
1) How many lawsuits presently are there against the county?
2) Why hasn't the county attorney responded to the request made by the auditors?
3) Who specifically in county management has determined that unsettled lawsuits not covered by insurance will not materially affect county finances?
4) Why haven't the County Commissioners been made aware of this situation?
Allen Barrett

Shouldn't it concern everyone that pays taxes in this county that there are any lawsuits at all?? I would like to know what lawsuits are pending and who working for our county has put us in a possible liable situation. It seems to me that with a wave of lawsuits, some employees could be putting their jobs on the line if these lawsuits have any merit. I for one would like to see some accountability for such negligent behavior when our county loses a lawsuit. Especially, if the same office or elected offical is the negligent party. I just think numerous lawsuits should raise concern with citizens.

I don't understand why there are lawsuits against the county an the county attorney won't respond to the auditers about them. There is no legal reason why she couldn't respond.

Surely the commissioners will demand an answer from the county attorney. If they can't answer the question - that speaks volumes.

She is the smear campaign.

From the time when she was looting toilet tissue from the senior citizens to her lies about being a single mother raising a handicapped child whose only income was from being county mayor and needing to be be reelected to provide for him. She has lived in Lincoln County the entire time she has been County Mayor and during that time the only thing that has grown has been county government.
She is the villain and no one is more responsible for her soiled reputation than she is.

Well, well, well, so disagreeing with what an elected official does with our tax money is now considered hate mongering, hm? I guess that makes me guilty of a hate crime as well being considered a terrorist and being on a terrorist watch list by the federal government. 2:36, as you said, we are entitled to our opinion, as are you, but because we disagree with what is happening does not mean that we hate her. I have actually met Ms. Vanzant, and found her to be a very likeable and caring person. I just happen to disagree with her politics. And by the way, I did vote for her this last time, so I have a right to complain. Just because I disagree with someones politics does not mean I have to dislike them. My wife and I are so diametrically opposed politically it is hard to believe we can see eye to eye on anything, but we do, and we love each other dearly. What you claim as hate mongering is nothing more than good political debate. However, since you will disagree with everything I have just said, then I guess it doesn't matter. Why should it matter who started the debate, you are going argue, whine, gripe, and disagree with everything that anyone says anyway. You have neither the abilty nor desire to listen to anything anyone says that is even one iota outside the dim and narrow view have maintained for yourself, and you expect those who actually have the desire to think outside the box to change to suit you. I don't want or expect you to change, but I do expect the same that you do, a little respect for all of us and let us have our own opinions. I love to fish, but I have not done anything hook, line and sinker. Please give everyone the chance to have their own point of view.

No, hate-mongering is the attempt to destroy people just because you and a certain little group of malcontents have decided (hook, line, and sinker) that you don't like them for some reason. You misunderstand a simple point. Those like me who point out the character assassinations, name-calling, and such are the ones who are called hate-mongerers by people like you.
Please tell me WHO has ever said or even suggested that taxpayers have no right to public records. You nver heard that from me! How follish of you to even suggest such a thing.
You ask that I please allow everyone the chance to have his or her own point of view. Are you serious? That is the same plea I've had for a long time. We all should be able to share our opinions without some wise guy calling us ignorant, apathetic, enablers of evil, and etc. I for one happen to respect that right. My definition of a malcontent is one who runs around town with hair on fire calling people names and accusing them of dishonesty and criminal activity. Such a person is arrogant to the core and totally unwilling to accept opinions that differ from his own. He or she is ALWAYS right and never apologizes, even when made aware of misbehavior. And the true malcontent finds something wrong with practically every facet of local government. They arrogantly call elected officials ignorant, stupid, illiterate, corrupt, etc. The attacks on certain individuals are unrelenting.
I've not seen anybody on this "free speech" blog say or even suggest that it is not a taxpayer's right to question how the money is spent. But I just don't think that gives certain individuals the right to try to character assassinate those they resent or dislike for whatever reason. And when one follows along and becomes a part of that, he or she HAS in fact swallowed hook, line, and sinker. Are we not better than that - smarter than that? Think.

Yes, Mr Barratt has a lawsuit against the county and I can't be more happy that he does. The cost of that lawsuit is zero for the county if they would only admit to the wrongs done in creating the zoning fiasco. If the county loses those who have brought this suit led by Mr Barratt are not seeking any compensation.
This particular lawsuit could be settled in a matter of minutes if the county commission would resend the land management act or simply allow the people of the county to vote on the matter.
In this matter Mr Barratt is doing the people of Giles County a great service in standing up for individual property rights.

All those commissioners can be replaced if they go against their constituency, remember that. We have a bunch of boneheads on there now, with the exception of a few. I get the feeling from what word is on the street is that many of the commissioners will not be re-elected. Out with the old and in with the new. Too many citizens voicing their opinions about the fact that their commissioners are not doing a good job. They are tired of the same old, same old. Also, Janet V. will not have an easy race either if she chooses to run. Many of those tight with her in past elections are ready for her to go. But, from what I am hearing, it is her on doing. I call that arrogance. And I truly believe (my opinion) that this hatred, mistrust, and division can be laid at the feet of an unhappy and politically impotent individual who SHOULD know how to behave. Is it not a bit ridiculous to consider a few folks "a group" if, for a variety of reasons, they are not happy with the schools director, or perhaps other folks questioning the lack of insurance bidding in the county, others people may not like Speer being both city mayor and economic director, even others opposed to how Barry Hyatt handled the Julie Phillips retention at the highway dept., etc.... They are not a "group" unless they are organized and hold meetings.
Giles County Patriots are a group that I believe are lead by a woman in Ardmore. Recently held a local meeting in Pulaski which was open to the public. Why didnt you attend then you could have observed what constitutes "a group".

Hey 7:38 So you're a board certified psychiatrist who has received permission from the APA to create new categories of psychiatric diagnosis, I'm impressed.... of course you have that in writing?
One thing that is clear is your expertise in hate, after years of practice you seem to have it down pat.

As I have said, my credentials are NONE of your business. I don't need APA's permission to coin "Hook, Line, and Sinker Syndrome, and I am not trying to introduce the malady into the current DSM-IV. Besides it's a locally infectious condition brought on by one's failure to think for self.

Sure your credentials are my business. If you are going to diagnose me and suggest a treatment plan for that diagnosis I certainly should know what your qualifications are. When I go to a doctor for the first time I ask them what are their qualifications, where they went to school and were they were trained. You may be satisfied having an unknown person poke and prod you from all directions without knowing anything about them but not me. There is a difference in a doctor trained in a third world country where a proctologist still uses a garden hose and flashlight and one trained in a legitimate modern medical environment.

What insights you share! I am highly impressed. When you get around to seeking mental health services, please don't forget to ask the clinician those questions. He or she will see your arrogance right away and will most likely draw a fast conclusion that you are in fact a kook!

So you don't ask your doctors where they went to school and had their training.... that explains why your head is still in the dark place it's been most of your life. If you got a qualified surgeon like the ones who separated conjoined twins they could extract your head with about seven hours of surgery. Of course that would mean you have to wear dark glasses until you can get used to the light of day.

Your life must be so dull and boring if all you have time for is to get on this blog and try to play gotcha with me. Get some help, ok?

Hey, dumbo. Did it occur to you that if all I have to do is answer your stupid posts that you might not have much else to do either. I multi-task, I read with one eye and watch Fox news with the other, write with one hand scratch with the other and type with my toes while changing diapers on twins. I tell you to see me work is absolutely amazing.

You are so multi-talented. Did it not occur to you that if it were not for my posts you would have nobody to call names and play gotcha with?
Yes, I am amazed for sure.

Oh, you're so thoughtful. I have the obama and a whole bunch of idiot politicians to take up your slack.
But thanks for thinking of me anyway.

I get the impression that you are a Republican. If that be the case, I just might go independent. At what point in your life did you decide that you were smarter than everyone else? Amazing.

Being a republican is not as bad right now as being an Obama supporter. Besides, dems are running for the hills. You can't find anyone that will admit they voted for him. So to say you may become independent is funny to say the least because they aren't supporting Obama either...

Ok, you didn't call me a nasty name on this thread. That's commendable.
In case you don't know, an independent is nither Democrat or Republican. I was making the point that if I had to affiliate myself with a bunch of arrogant people who think they know it all, then it's time for me to leave the GOP that I love.

9:54 sorry but you're wrong once again. I am, have been and probably always will be a conservative independent in every area. Guess that leaves you out of the Conservative Tea Party movement. Of course they're always looking for more sheep in the socialist party bet you'd fit in there just perfect. Oh have you ever seen a politician that wasn't arrogant to some degree.... with out some arrogance they would never think they should be elected to rule over others.
I never decided that I was smarter than everyone else only that I try and not be as dumb as some.

Wrong again my arrogant nemesis. I hate socialism, so don't bother going there. I said that I would never associate with people who think they know it all, regardless of party affiliation. I can't stomach the democrat party, so I suppose I'll just be an at-large conservative. How's that?
You never decided that, because it appears that you always knew you were smarter than others.
