Cost To Be A Cheerleader?

Every activity children are involved in at school seems to be costly either financially or in time and energy expended. It's reasonable that the participates share in the cost of such activities.
What is unreasonable is having to pay $10.00, non-refundable, just to try out for the Cheerleader team. When I was recently made aware of this I found it hard to believe but it's true. I do not know how many children try out for cheerleader each year but if as few as fifty try out that's five hundred dollars. Where does that money go? What is it used for? Is it reasonable that a person pay simply to try out for a school activity?
Since selection to the team is an arbitrary decision and the number to be selected is limited for most no doubt this is just a contribution to some unknown fund used in some unknown way, should it be? Allen Barrett

i actually have no problem with the fee IF all of the other similar activities charged a fee (to try out) as well....such as football, basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, etc.....but we all know that there is no fee for those...and last yr, it seems that 'someone' spent all of the money, so the GCHS tryouts werent judged by a TSSAA governing council, but instead the MMC cheerleaders.....like most other things in pulaski....well, you can figure it out on your own.

Richland is the school. Not only that they discriminate against special needs students that want to try out. Does a special needs cause a flaw in the supposedly perfect cheerleading squad that only the two coaches seem to get the full glory. If a special needs child can't be an honorary member then shouldn't the team coaches leave their children off the squad as well. By children I mean pre-schoolers.

Rather than make it sound like every school is charging for cheerleader try outs, you should have said which school UP FRONT. You cannot help but to stir up trouble and cause problems where there were none (as in all the other schools that are doing right). Shame on you once again.

i agree and the parents of the children should put out a lawsuit against the school and school board for not stopping the teachers from discriminating the students. they have to let everyone that wants try out no matter what race, disability, ect. it is against the law to discriminate against anyone if i was the parent i would take it further

Yep, shame on the majestic one again. But his cheerleaders" will come out (without a fee) to defend him, regardless of the trouble he causes. He's Giles County's thorn in the flesh.

Doesnt this fall under the title 9 provisions of the Federal gumment regarding equal and balanced funding for ALL sports activity at schools ?
Someone involved in it needs to call the Nashville FBI 'cuz it surely is a Federal offence .
Hopefully the prepetrators will do time .

Cheerleaders seem to be under a seperate "law". In that at some Giles County school the children have in the past and i think stil do have to pay for their uniforms. If my memory serves me right the football and basketball players that these students cheer on don't have to buy their uniforms.

If true this is terrible biased sportswise and financailly.

Well, once again my irrational self aggrandizing critic has thrown another rock at a shadow. I did not say or imply that all the school in Giles County are charging a fee to try out for the cheerleader teams, most people are well aware that not all the schools even have cheerleader teams.
It's my understanding that Richland High School has a fund balance from fund raisers that exceeds ninety thousand dollars. Until this money has been used why is there a charge for any school activity. Why was the school board asked to buy Promethean Boards for Richland with so much money available? Why is a special needs student not allowed to take part in cheerleader activities when children that aren't even students are allowed? There are many questions that need to be answered about the situation at Richland. Apparently just changing principals did not solve the perception of inequity between some students and others. What you fail to understand is the fact that you have MANY critics. And it's rather narrow-minded and delusional of you to think otherwise.
Question. Why are you trying to stir up trouble at Richland?

While there may be many critics of the WAB there is only one "irrational self aggrandizing critic" that can be easily identified by one and all.
As for Richland can't you see the need for some intervention there?

Some people feel a need for intervention in practically anything and everything. Has it ever occurred to you that the school can handle its own problems without wab trying to stir up trouble? It's an internal situation that I'm sure they are aware of and can handle. There very well may be a need for some sort of intervention at Richland but not by you or me or even by wab.

Richland charges. The only time people change what they are doing is when it proves too costly for them. Only a fool would expect a change to take place without some prodding from somewhere. At last look I believe it was the citizens of the county that own the school, pay the bills and deserve some answers.

I have never seen a group of people who wnt to control or intervene in everything in this county. Just because you are citizens of the county does not mean that you can put your hands into it and try to change or run things the way you want it. Don't you realize that the more you push, the more resistant your opposition will be.

This is what I've been trying to tell these people for a long time now, and I have had to suffer their barbs, name-calling, and condescension. They apparently think themselves so muich smarter that they have a right to be in charge. And the sad thing is that they will never stop or go away.

To 9:52 & 6:27 You state "Just because you are citizens of the county does not mean that you can put your hands into it and try to change or run things the way you want it"
The thing you seem unable to comprehend is the idea that because a person "is" a citizen of the county they have a responsibility to be actively involved with the things of the county. That doesn't mean you seek to control the county or even to make everything your way but it does mean you have an obligation to speak out and seek openness in the way the county is operated. The only thing I have ever sought for this county is openness, accountability and equality. The reason we are in the mess we're in as families, a county, state, nation and society is that we have simply neglected our responsibilities as adults, parents and citizens.

You state, "They apparently think themselves so muich smarter that they have a right to be in charge. And the sad thing is that they will never stop or go away."
I do not see myself as smarter than everyone else, obviously, like you, I am smarter than some because I have worked harder to educate myself in some areas. An important way to educate oneself is to learn from others but how can you learn from those who choose to do everything in secret?
The open debate of ideas, not personalities and feelings, is the most effective way to learn. I will listen to anyone who has something to say because I value them as individuals but I also expect to be heard for the same reasons.
Will people like me ever go away, I pray they will not because when all opposing views are removed tyrants and fools dictate and all of society suffers, remember the "dark ages". History is a greater teacher when we listen. Allen Barrett

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I am 6:27 and not 9:52. So your charge is again ridiculous. Just accept the fact that there are PLENTY of others who see things the same as I do. What you don't seem to understand is that most of them refuse to have anything to do with this blog.

To wab:
Who are the fools and tyrants you refer to? I was just wondering. Thank you.

Gee whiz 4:38 was the & between 9:52 & 6:27 not big enough for you to see or was you just looking for something to complain about? As to how things appear to you I have long past given up trying to reason with someone who has no reason.

The second part of your post is just as absurd. Here you can read it again, "Will people like me ever go away, I pray they will not because when all opposing views are removed tyrants and fools dictate and all of society suffers, remember the "dark ages". History is a greater teacher when we listen", hopefully with some practice you will come to understand there was no particular person or persons I was referring to but that the lack of challenging questions will lead to tyrants and fools controlling society in all ages. As a member of the Lynnville community, I am appalled at the lack of leadership at Richland High School. Changing principals did NOT make any positive improvements. I have serious concerns about the future of our children and their educational experience at RHS. The current principal in place does NOT have any intentions of providing the best education possible for the kids. He is only concerned about riding out his time until he can retire. Ask ANY teacher there and they will tell you that. The morale has NOT improved much since the last principal left. I commend WAB for bringing this situation to light because it has been an issue FOR SEVERAL YEARS now. It is time that we fight this issue - Mr. Jackson - we want our school in this part of the county to be GREAT again!

here's my comment, why are we worrying about $10.)) charged to cheerleader hopefuls who obviously willingly pay for opportunity to tryout and instead focus our attention back to the million dollar stadium that only ONE team as appropraited to use and when even our pop warner kids used the field were made to feel they needed to be kneeling to the GCHS gods for allowing them use and making sure they didnt break a grass blade in the process....worry about your own side of the county and we'll worry about ours
