Why Did Commissioner Lovell Declare The Giles County Chief Deputy Unreliable?

In the County Commission Meeting Monday 15 March 2010. Commissioner Lovell declared that the Chief Deputy of the Giles County Sheriff's Office was unreliable.
Commissioner Wilburn stated that the Beer License that had been issued to the "Stop and Chat" store was invalid because not only was it too close to the church in Campbellsville it was even closer to the Public Library in Campbellsville.
When Commissioner Wilburn stated the Library was within the 400 foot distance, that had been made the standard by County Executive Vanzant and used to justify giving the permit, Commissioner Lovell stated, without being recognized to speak, that it was not that close. Commissioner Wilburn then repeated that it was less than 300 feet and had been officially measured. Commissioner Lovell again blurted out, without being properly recognized to speak by the Chair, that the distance wasn't correct and demanded of Commissioner Wilburn to know "who measured it you". Commissioner Wilburn stated that the Chief Deputy had measured it then the, the Chief Deputy stepped forward and confirmed that he had measured it and the distant as stated by Commissioner Wilburn was correct, at which time Commissioner Lovell, again without being recognized to speak, declared "it's not true and I don't believe it".
It is an official duty of the Chief Deputy, when requested, to establish the distance between places seeking to sale alcoholic beverages and churches/schools and/or Public Meeting places.
The arrogance of tyranny continues. Allen Barrett

There is absolutely NO place in public office where all the people like each other. Look at what they do in Congress when it comes to major issues such as health care reform.

Way to go Mr Barrett .

There's too much pandering to selected commisioners in county meetings.

Time to vote the rascals OUT of office including their 'leader' who preaches Roberts Rules of meetings only when it suits her. She lets a select few do whatever they please while the 'rest' are whipped into line in a hurry.

You also have to ask 'where's the risk ' such that there needs to be 2 or three county deputy sheriffs in each meeting . Particularly if the gang of select commissioners declare publically that they dont believe what the seniormost lawman tells them .
The whole thing is a farce and an insult to the hard working people of Giles County who are trying to keep things together in these hard times .

I sure hope we see some major changes in seat-fillers after the august election . Time to vote the rascals OUT

That's a lie. I've never said that he shouldn't be a minister, although I tend to agree. I've never seen one behave as he does. And please, don't go saying I am the only one who can see this.
Let me ask you a question. Do you believe the Bible where it says to mark those who cause division among you? How about some things God hates (e.g. feet that are swift to mischief, a proud look, being contentious and causing strife, etc,)? Not being a peacemaker? By their fruits ye shall know them? I cvould go on and on, but you surely get the picture.
Would you say that a man who abuses his wife and children is abusive? Would you logically conclude that people sitting around the waiting room of a doctor's office are ill? Of course. We make "judgments" all the time based on what is observable. Think.

By reviewing various news outlets I have failed to see where the county commissioners addressed the neglect of charged responsibility actions of commissioners Adams & Howell.

I assume that by adding two members to the beer board the court will now be charged with placing four new members on the board. Is this correct?

You may be right 10:21 but I thought it was reported that they didn't sign anything. If that is true then the official vote was 3-0. It is my understanding the board has two options. Yes or no. If they failed to sign either then they should be removed from responsibility due to non-conformance of their required duties.

Can this company get blood out of a turnip? The ambulance picks up a lot of people that don't have money or insurance. How can you get money for the bill there.

They will have to be paid, want this cost Giles county more money?

Don't they have someone that sends out bills and keep up if they are not paid?

Voters in district 4 would do well to look at Lovells record while he has been on the county commission these long years. This is also the same commissioner, along with Stoney Jackson, who raves whenever a fellow commissioner dares to suggest they take a cut in pay. Lovell has also been heard to comment when leaving a meeting that may have gone on too long for his way of thinking, that he only made minimum wage on that one! Maybe he should try living on that or unemployment income as so many have to do in Giles county. Time for Lovell to go and please take Jackson with him. Two bullies to be sure with no regard for the people who put them in office.

Contrary to what the attackers say, Mr. Lovell seems to be a good and decent person who wants to do the right thing for Giles County. How do I know that? I know, because I've done some investigating on my own and do not accept what hateful people have to say. Neither should anyone else.

It's great that you did some investigating on your own but did you look into the matter of the beer board and how his friends are the only ones who benefited from his position and vote? He puts $60. for commission meetings and $30. for committee meetings even those he's not on are only attends the last few minutes of in his own pocket. Did your investigatons show he gets jobs with the county for his family and friends? Did you investigating show you what a mean spirited person he is who acts like a spoiled child when he don't get his way?

You know what? Mr. Lovell is a deacon in his church and, in spite of what the character assassins have to say, is an honorable Christian man who tries to do what's right for the county. If you don't believe that, just ask some of the people who attend church with him. And he doesn't get on this blog and spew hatred and make retaliatory remarks as some tend to do. That tells me a lot about the character of Edwin Lovell. It also tells me that we could take a lesson from this man who has been absolutely crucified on this blog by certain individuals who SHOULD be ashamed.
But hey, it's election time, so what else might be expected? Here's an idea. How about doing unto others as we would have them do unto us? What a concept!
I honestly think the ones who are guilty of this drama are the ones who need to be run out of town on a rail and not the victims of their attacks. That's an opinion.

But don't hide behind a holier than thou position that you are shocked, shocked I tell you, that beer is sold near the Campbellsville library that serves, what, 10 to 20 kids a week, if that, unfortunately; and then make 10 visits a week to Wal-Mart where beer is sold just a few aisles from baby formula, toys and sporting good equipment and where thousands of kids are seen on a weekly basis.

Come on folks, let's get real. Is this really what is important to Giles Countians in the midst of a horrible economy, 2 wars, and a declining education system?
