Presidential Monkeys?????

Should presidential candidates be referred to as monkeys? Not long ago there was a verbal outrage and move from the "reverends" Jackson and Sharpton to prevent all references to President Obama and the popular children's book and TV character "Curious George". Even though some people saw a resemblance between the President and the cartoon character it was deemed to be racist in nature.
Now comes David Axlerod, the main man in President Obama's election and re-election campaigns, and former high ranking Obama adviser making a statement referring to Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich as a "monkey". Axlerod stated in reference to Gingrich, "the higher a monkey climbs in the poles the more you see his butt".
Question, is this any more or less a "racist remark" than comparing Pres. Obama with a cartoon monkey? How do you think the media will portray this comment and the man who made it? Will this again prove the media bias toward liberals?

Axelrod wasn't calling Gingrich a monkey, he was using an idiom. If you say about someone, "You can lead a horse to water..." you aren't actually calling them a horse. If you can't tell these difference between the two then I don't know what to tell you WAB.

I was going to say the same thing

I'm not a Newt supporter, but Wouldn't want to be referred to like that. That was what he meant and you know it.

The question is how would this same statement been seen had a conservative said it about Pres. Obama?
The context in which Axlerod made this statement could only be understood as referring to Gingrich as a "monkey".

WAB you are either so biased against Obama that your are blinded to reality or you're an idiot. I think it's a bit of both.

Funny; I used to call myself a Republican, but never more. However, I will hold my nose and vote for whoever runs against obama just as I will anyone who runs against our governor haslam.

Who cares? Axelrod is a nobody and Newt probably laughed about it. The fact that people make a big deal out of it is what's wrong with America. There is always someone stirring the pot, this blog is proof of that.

I think you are right. I have on more than one occasion pleaded with him to stop stirring up trouble and calling people names. I have also warned him that someone could get hurt because of this blog. It's really sad.

You are lying in what you just said and seem to be trying to stir up trouble. All 5:54 did was share a legitimate concern, and I(6:00) simply agreed. So who is the troublemaker?

7:10,

Look, I thought the same thing but decided not to post about it. I noticed that the same thing was posted on another thread. It also appeared to me that the same person posted as another person regarding the first post. I hope all of that makes sense.

I don't agree with Barrett about most things when it involves Giles County. I do agree with him sometimes about general problems in society. I think his approach to local issues is biased and childish.

I agree with the enabler that Barrett is a troublemaker. What I don't agree with is the way that he or she always has to say something to refute Barrett. It isn't productive. We all know that they think Barrett told a lie about them being an enabler of wrongdoing. I would agree with that. I don't think he or she is trying to defend wrongdoing. I do think that he or she goes overboard with the posts.

What I would like to see is discussion from both sides that debate the issues. If Barrett posts a topic that is nonsense, I will be the first to point that out. I will also try to give evidence of why I think it is so. I am not going to post "just because". My wish is that everyone would give something a little more in depth as to why they feel a certain way.

I have heated discussions with my best friends at times. I don't take their side just because they are my friend. It also doesn't make me not want to hang out with them because we might not agree on an issue. Our government was created in a way that two sides debate and meet on common ground. That is what made America strong. Today it feels as if we are being forced to think that one side knows what is best for all if us. At that point a democracy becomes a dictatorship. In my opinion, Barret would lead like a dictator. He thinks that his opinion is fact. Smart people know that you can't lead like that.

The problem is we do not live in a democracy. We live in a Republic not a Democracy. Our founding fathers warned us about democracy and how it is a form of government that allows for certain individuals to be discriminated against in a society. The federalist papers warn us against a Democracy and that is why you do not see Democracy any where in the U.S. Constitution. I know there will be some one uneducated on the subject that will argue their unsupported beliefs and will still say we are a democracy.

A Republic with a written law that applies to every one equally is a great system. Too bad not many know the difference. In a Republic with a Constitution such as the USA, 99% of the population can not take away the 1%'s rights that disagree with the majority.

Well, except in Giles County. I find that a lot of the laws seem to be maid up for the benefit of a few and bring the Constitution into the conversation and you are a cave man.

This was a question that Mr. Barrett asked in the Legislative Committee.
"Why is the County Legislative Body continuing to be officially referred to as the County Court. Mrs Vanzant is not a judge but the County Executive and the commissioners are not jurors.
If it is not proper to refer to the nation's government as a democracy instead of a Republic why is it OK to continue referring to the County Legislative Body as the county court?

The problem is that everyone is not equal. I know that some do not want to face that fact, but it is true. We are not at war to spread a republic, we are trying to create a democracy. The thought of being a Republic is ancient history. Politics at its core is democratic. The election process is democtratic. We can't hold back our nation for those that aren't willing to do for themselves.

The name "enabler" is the lie allen barrett told on me. The true enablers are those who blindly follow him.
Say, why do you feel such a need to be calling me names anyhow?
You keep accusing me of thinking I'm perfect. Wrong. I am a very fallible human being who needs God's grace every day of my life.

Why don't you stop with the pathetic whining about people making fun of your relationship with God.
It's not the relationship but your continual effort to make others believe what a wonderful pious person you are that causes them to scoff and laugh. Your writings continually reveal you as more Pharisee than anything else.

Wrong. I am indeed a fallible huiman being who needs God's grace each and every day of my life. And, if I were you, I wouldn't be preaching piousness to anyone. I just had to laugh when you suggested that I'm somewhat of a Pharisee. Go look in your OWN mirror.
Is there anything else you need help understanding?

So what you are stating is basically that the one document that protects our personal liberties is out dated? That no one should pay attention to it so that we may follow some form of democracy that they practiced in ancient Greece, because that is the kind of Democracy that is being spread.

You state, "The problem is that everyone is not equal." That is true but every one does have equal protection of their constitutional rights and deserve them. These are not rights bestowed from one man upon another. Every man is born with these rights, it is our birth right. Only idiots would want to push the spread of democracy as opposed to protecting our Republic and that is truly what is wrong with this country.

We can't protect our own citizens from poverty and provide the opportunities every American deserves, our nation's infrastructure is crumbling, our leaders are unwilling to protect our borders, and we have those who are hungry and homeless on the streets ,including ex-military, and as a nation we would rather go to war to spread a form of democracy that our founding father's warned us against.

More and more I see people in this nation that speak and support philosophies that seem to have their roots in Nazi Germany. I have a question for you 10:39. Are you a socialist? You are aware that democracy today is another way to promote the spread of socialism.

We must protect our Constitution and the Republic of the United States of America from the stupid people, mainly people like 10:39.
