Ambulance Committee Meeting 12 Jan. 2012

In a very unusual move it was reported that state auditors suggested that the Secretary from the Ambulance Service take notes of the committee meetings and keep a copy at the Ambulance Service and at the Courthouse. While county guidelines require a secretary be provided I have never heard of a state auditor requiring such a move.

The Ambulance Director presented a request to purchase "turn out gear" at a cost of $9,999.90 to replace worn gear being used now. This item was not in the budget and there wasn't enough money in the ambulance fund balance which was reported to only have $7,000.00 in it.
Everything seemed simple enough until Mrs Garner began to explain her expectations about incoming funds. Apparently Mrs Garner didn't read the newspaper or listen to WKSR report that Mrs Townsend had stated that tax collections were coming in slower than last year, because Mrs Garner reported that tax collections were the same or better than last year. The "hope" is that the money will be here when it comes time to pay the bill. Commissioner Jackson made the statement that when the ambulance fund balance comes up to $9,999.90 they can purchase the equipment. At that point Mr Griggs stated that he had another "fund balance" of $15,000.00 he could draw from. How a department could have two fund balances is beyond my understanding.

Questions: If Mr Griggs knew the equipment needed to be replaced why wasn't it put in the budget to begin with. If the budgets aren't followed what's the point of having them and where is the extra money coming from. If this money is given, based on the way budgets are made in the county this will be rolled into the next budget and announced as being the same as this year.

Another cheap shot at Mrs. Garner. At least you didn't go after Mrs. Vanzant this time.
My "hope" is that you will stop this game of gotcha. You really are a piece of work, aren't you?

GOD helps those who help themselves. Ms. Garner is her own worst enemey and she alone creats incidences that cause others to questions her. If Ms. Garner did not continuously make really dumb remarks, and would check her facts prior to opening her mouth, people would possibly stop questioning her veracity.

Yep, here we go again. There was no call for barrett to say that Mrs. Garner apparently didn't read the newspaper. How does he know that; is he a mind reader? He could have got his point across without the smart remark. Why can't you see that? How would you like it if it had been directed at you?

Mrs Garner made a statement and repeated it at least twice that was in direct opposition to what Mrs Townsend had been quoted as stating in both the newspaper and on WKSR.
Odd that you point out for criticism my comment that "apparently she didn't read the paper" instead of the fact that she attributed a statement to Mrs Townsend that was directly opposite to what was in the paper and on the news. I did not state which was correct, Mrs Garner or the newspaper and radio, only that the two statements conflicted. You may think it was a "smart remark" and that's fine I consider it merely a matter of smartly stating a fact.
Wonder why there was nothing from you about having "two fund balances" meaning two sets of books or that the hospital fund has obviously been dipped into again.

There was nothing wrong with what Barrett said about "she must not of read the paper." She may not have read what Mrs. Townsend said. If she had I doubt she would of said what she did. There is nothing wrong with not reading the paper. You just like to pick on everything WAB says.

By any chance are you Mrs. Garner's daughter and work in Mrs. Vanzant's office?

No, I just didn't like his suggesting that Mrs. Garner is ill-informed. There was no call for that.
No, I don't know Mrs. Garner personally and have no connection whatsoever with her office.

Do you know that referring to a man is very odd unless you are a female? Or is that the way you want it?
Is there an issue that you want to discuss or do you still want to call me sweetie? LOL.

Who is in the running for the Chamber of Commerce job?

The State Auditors have no say in who serves on any committee as Secretary, chairman, etc. That is just some in local office trying to pull the wool over the rest of the commissioner's eyes . They know better but no one will speak out against the games.

I am not 9:27, but they just asked a reasonable question. They did not deserve a smart answer. If it pertains to county business, any question deserves a sensible answer.

Reason I asked the question is if there is a job opening at the Chamber I would like to apply for it. So, does M Campbell still work there or not?

The job discription is on WKSR news web site. Margaret C had the chance to straighten out the Chamber but did nothing! To busy with the newspaper I think.

The job description I found on WKSR was for a Chamber director. I thought M. Campbell was the latest secretary and thats the position I was interested in. So does anyone know if Campbell is still at the Chamber?

The County should let go of the so called Ambulance Service. It keeps the county in the red non stop. Poor managment, and the service is not good. If we could get another service here, all this would end, better service, with better emergency techs. They all think they are doctors, and tell you what your problem is, without the education. Get rid of them!!!

I was told they get time and half on vacation if they go over 40 hours in a week. How can this be?? Does the rest of the county workers get the same? Someone needs to check this out! That is so unfare!!!
