Prayer Service or Political Rally?

While I have never been a fan or supporter of President Obama my utter disgust for the person reached an all time low with his outrageous behavior at the National Prayer Breakfast on 2 February 2012.

What has usually been a very beautiful service honoring God and  expressions of praise to Him was turned into a political speech declaring that Jesus wants our taxes raised.

This anti-Christian who's administration seems to have declared Jihad on Christianity and just a few days ago declared that the Catholic Church must now provide birth control including abortion assistance for all their workers (this is the equivalent of requiring the Church of Christ to install and use an organ and piano; requiring Baptist to baptize by sprinkling; requiring no more singing in churches).

The president used Luke 12:47-48 and by altering the meaning, context and intent of those words he turned them from speaking about our responsibilities to do what we know is right based on God's Word to being a demand for increasing taxes on those who work and make more income. While Jesus certainly teaches that we must help those in need nowhere does He compel governments to tax and fill the role of God and His people. Jesus was not the Socialist Obama proclaims.  This is very much like his campaign use of the "Sermon on the Mount" and the total abuse of that Scripture and it's meaning to support gay marriage and abortions.

I will not go into a sermon on Luke 12 but would challenge everyone to read that chapter and judge for yourself if there is anything in that chapter that can even remotely be interpreted as Jesus requiring more government taxes on those who work and earn.

Thank you mr. Barrett for speaking out on the man who tries to be king instead of president. Did anybody hear about the city manager of Mt. Pleasant banning prayer at work for city workers from 8 to 5 which means they can't pray during lunch?

Mr. Barrett, your own writing supports my point: "...read that chapter and judge for yourself..."
It is up to everyone to judge for themselves. The words of the bible can be bent to fit any agenda if one is clever. Also, when those words are followed blindly, trouble brews.
Live a true and honest life, and be loved by many.

When you filter through all the negative complaints about President Obama, it just boils down to the fact the man is non-white. Same would be said against a president whose parents were Oriental or Indian but the person was born in the US. President Obama is a good man and I will be voting for him.

For those of you who want Newt in the White House, what was he doing when he was leading the charge against Bill Clinton? Romney just commented that he didn't care about the poor. Where does that leave you? Don't vote and you can make a difference.

The strife on this blog is caused by those who didn't think anybody would come here and oppose them. The opposition is here, and therin lies the strife. And yes, we know who is at the top of this food chain.

10:31
I totally agree with what you said about the wedge this sort of thing drives into a community but strongly disagree with you about Obama.
Granted, the Republicans don't really have a strong horse in the race, but I honestly believe Obama has got to go. He is ruining this country, and his lack of experience is very costly. This has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin. I was ready to support Herman Caine before someone destroyed his chances. Actually, we need another Ronald Reagan. We wouldn't be in the mess we are in right now and no third world nation would even think of trying to bully us around. Obama will go down in histroy as the worst president we have ever had. He took the top honors away form Jimmy Carter and William Jefferson Blythe Clinton.

To 8:24 I do not understand why you continue to post your anger and irritations at Gov. Haslam and others in the Republican Party without giving a single specific about what you are so angry about.
There have been some proposals to change classroom size and increase the pay of teachers based on performance instead of tenured breathing. These things are a part of the greater plan required to have NCLB removed from the backs of all school systems in the state.
The federal government lead by democrats required a plan for improving schools and student performance if they were to remove the NCLB requirements that hardly any teacher or administrator wanted to keep.
The Gov and republicans have brought in a ton of new jobs, given great support to school systems and institutions of higher learning. They have talked about masking some changes so teachers are more accountable but at the same time have offered greater financial benefits to those who perform at higher levels. I have never felt it appropriate to pay any group of people the same amount regardless of the work they do. A teacher whose students watch twenty movies a year and can hardly read and write should not be paid the same amount as a teacher who is continually involved with their students and whose students are continually performing at much higher levels.
If you want to complain about a thing that's your right but if you want anyone to see you as anything but a frivolous whiner give some specifices.

This is not frivolous whining. Ask the teachers who are having to suffer.

First of all, Haslem hired a Commissioner of Education who has taught all of TWO years to second graders. He and his wife (who practically destroyed the school system in DC) have only worked in think tanks in Washington. He has never been a principal, director or local education official. Look at the people Haslem has hired. Look how few have come from TN. Most of them have come from other states and from lobbyists groups in DC. For those of you who argue for Haslem about teachers, I repeat, ASK a teacher and see how much he is disliked. He doesn't know anything about education. He may know the Pilot gas business, but not education. Try to call the State Department of Education and ask someone a question. No ONE knows any answers.

Exactly. All the Haslam defenders need do is ask a few teachers what they think of not only Haslam, Summerville, and a few others. There have been a few segments on tv just recently about the problems these jokers are causing teachers in the state of Tennessee.
The things you said are factual, and thank you for sharing what you know about these people. They have got to go. I was talking to a friend the other day about Haslam and he told me that he was going to vote against him for sure. He and I both have always voted Republican...until now. 10:02 You make a great argument for why the department of education should be done away with. So far the only thing that Haslem has done is make proposals and that was just to increase some classroom ratios while increasing the salary of those teachers who perform at higher levels. I am a teacher been in the local system 27 years in the high school for over 20 years I support the governors efforts. I have seen some of the sorriest teachers make tenure and become even sorrier while outstanding teachers were paid the same amount and were busting their butts to teach children, When it came time to rehire very often those new energized teachers who were doing a great job were let go while the burned out space taker continued to destroy children s opportunities.
Remember the outstanding math teacher at Richland a few years ago. His students made more progress in math than any school in the mid state he was let go and even the students protested such a wasteful move.
Is Haslam perfect of course not and not all his decisions will be perfect but so far not one good teacher can say they have suffered. In fact when you compare having NCLB taken off our backs with anything Haslem has proposed or done involving teachers he has earned only praise.

Nothing has been changed 9:47 so how can teachers be suffering under Haslam's policies? What some have reacted to is proposals. The main proposals are to increase the ratio of students to teacher this would cut the number of teachers and save several billion dollars each year most of which would be used to increase the pay of teachers who perform at a higher level. Withholding tenure for a longer period is also proposed. I happen to agree with the proposals since there is no research that confirms any idea that smaller classes result in better educations. Some classes in college have well over a hundred students in some of the most productive classes. You keep saying ask a teacher and I have told you on at least two occasions that I am a teacher and I have no problem with these proposals and challenge you on the idea that teachers have already suffered under Haslem's "changes".

Go ask some teachers what they think of larger class sizes, almost impossible to attain tenure, and the new evaluation system under Haslam. I challenge you to do that. However, if I were you, I wouldn't go applauding the likes of Haslam and Summerville in front of a group of educators.

Something I have been thiking about is how terachers use to have 32 or more students in their class room. These students went on to make doctors and lawyers. Then they getting classes smaller and smaller. How many is it in a class room now 18 and a part aid if not all time aide.
Now with the times getting so bad there isn't enough money to pay for all this so the class rooms mare going to have to be larger. How much larger?
I've thought maybe stop paying aides.
Then I think of how unruley some of the children are today. That is going to be hard.

I still think if a parent was called to set in the class room everytime their child misbehaved, after a few times of missing work that child would be taken out behind the wood shed like the use too,

Tennessee isn't the only state with these problems. There just isn't any money to pay for the way it use to be.

Despite the smaller classes and teachers aides, the education is not improving.
