School Calendar

The suggestion was made by Board member Mrs. Murrey that since the school calendar was being made out by the Director there was no real need to waste the time of those on the Calendar Committee. Discussion revealed that after the Calendar Committee had spent many hours and much effort making out the new school calendar the Director changes it to his preference thus yielding the committee as useless.

The calendar situation was tabled; to be addressed on Thursday 21 February at either 5 or 5:30 pm. The reason for the confusion is it was very confusing and you would have had to be thereto appreciate just how confusing. Allen Barrett

Was not at board meeting, but I am guessing that Mrs. Murrey was correct. School employees voted on 3 separate proposed calendars but when our committee member was asked a few questions regarding each of these proposals, he/she did not know the answers....i.e. The calendar committee did not have input, they were simply messengers bringing the proposals back to the staff. The board gives the appearance of employees having input, reality is calendar like GCEA contract is not bargained in good faith; it is a dog and pony show. Decisions are made behind closed doors before any discussion ever takes place.

Looks like you have "exposed" more "behind closed doors" activities in Giles County. How did you manage to get inside? Did it ever occur to you that Mr. Jackson has the power to make the final decision on the school calendar after receiving input from those on the committee? In fact, is that not his responsibility?

Question. Can you list one county official you see as worthy of the office he or she holds? I doubt it, but I'd love to hear your response. By the way, you dismissed my previous question concerning great and noble things you have done for the county. Now is your chance to shine.

From WKSR: (including the mispelling of Tee):
The Giles County Board of Education will have a special called meeting Tuesday at 3:30pm in the Central Office Board Room. According to Director of Schools Teen Jackson, the purpose fo the meeting is to consider various school calendar optionsand to approve the 2008-2009 school calendar.

Why is when the transportation committee or building committee or etc recommend something it is taken? The calendar committee gives the calendar to Tee and he decides. I have to agree, why waste employees time with looking at calendars when the director is going to make the calendar. Did he do anything that the committee wanted? Nobody but the board has seen the calendar but it must not have been like the recommendation since Mrs. Murrey questioned it.

To anonymous of the 18 Feb. 5:35 post.
Wrong again anonymous I simply stated what was said in an open meeting. I never questioned Mr. Jackson’s “power to make the final decision on the school calendar”
I only echoed the question, “Why waste the time and efforts of the Calendar Committee if nothing they decide is upheld?” What’s the point of having a Calendar Committee if it’s only for show? I’m sure those members could use their time and energy for other more productive pursuits.
I can name several county officials I “see as worthy of the office he or she holds.” I can name several who are doing really great jobs, Crystal Greene, Carol Wade, Cathy Bassham, Loretta Garner, Merry Merle Sigmon, Sam Collins and there are many more but regardless of how many I name I’m sure that will not be satisfactory for you.
Sorry but you’re wrong again, I answered your question then asked you to name something you have done to better the county, I’m still awaiting your list. Allen Barrett

To 5:35- Surely you just misunderstood; WAB didn't expose anything; just stated facts that are part of a public record. Surely you are not one of those people that ignore facts because you disagree with the messenger??? Those kinds of people just get on my last nerve, don't they do that to you to? The kind of folks that are so petty and insecure that they can't handle a difference of opinion...I would think a reasonably intelligent person like yourself wouldn't be that way. There's an old saying that really applies here..."To ignore the facts does not change the facts." I am sure you are smart enough to tell the difference between a fact and an opinion, that's why I started this msg acknowledging that you probably misunderstood Mr. Barrett's post.

Begging your pardon ONCE AGAIN, but Mr. Jackson, just like President Bush, asks for the input of his generals on the ground in Iraq before he makes his decisions. Can you not extrapolate that to the calendar committee? Teacher input is the "point" to having such a committee.
Out of the same mouth, you state that you never claimed that Mr. Jackson doesn't have the power to make decisions and also state that there's no point in having a calendar committee if nothing they decide is upheld. Again, it is not up to them to decide. Their input is solicited and considered, and then Mr. Jackson makes his decision based on that input.
Please don't evade the question I asked you by throwing up a smoke screen. For the third time, what have you done to better Giles County? If you answered it, I apparently missed it, so could you please enlighten me?
Should we applaud your nominations of those you deem "worthy" of holding public office? And that's not just a tiny bit arrogant?
By the way, I obey the laws, pay my taxes, and do not run around in public trying to discredit and humiliate those I may resent or dislike. How about those things? I feel that I am just as "worthy" to be counted a good citizen as anyone else. Just because I haven't found a cure for cancer or balanced the nation's budget doesn't make me less than the rest, does it?
Again, I hope I've helped clear up some of your misunderstandings.

Please don’t rely on my word alone, just ask the people who were on the calendar committee how they view the job they did and the response to it. The calendar committee is like so much of the other stuff that comes out of the school bunker duplication, duplication and make work for all the high paid supervisors. As for what I have done for the county I answered and you missed it. One thing I can assure you is that I have paid my taxes to Giles County and not Lincoln County. As for your statement, “Should we applaud your nominations of those you deem "worthy" of holding public office? And that's not just a tiny bit arrogant?” For a former teacher and principal and now apologist for a failed system I find your understanding of words to be rather lacking. It was your word “worthy” not mine that you took exception to. You asked, was there any county officials I see as “worthy” of the office he or she holds.” I responded that I can name several who are doing “really great” jobs, Crystal Greene, Carol Wade, Cathy Bassham, Loretta Garner, Merry Merle Sigmon, Sam Collins and there are many more but regardless of how many I name I’m sure that will not be satisfactory for you. What you might try and understand is the difference between your term “worthy of their office” and my term “really great job”. If there is any arrogance there it would be firmly on your side of the table.
You state, “By the way, I obey the laws, pay my taxes, and do not run around in public trying to discredit and humiliate those I may resent or dislike. How about those things?” I’m unaware of your arrest records, I’m sure the folks in Lincoln County appreciate that you pay your taxes and while you may not be “running” you certainly seem to be using this blog to vent some of your anger at me, not to mention some of the things you have said in front of other school employees. I never questioned your “worth” or whether you are a good citizen perhaps those questions arose from an unsettled conscience. As for clearing up “my misunderstandings” sorry but I had none in reference to those things you state. Allen Barrett

Good grief - I read 2/18 1:36 & have to ask how anyone could be filled that much hate and delusion and not be institutionalized.

An educated person, yes, but more than likely on some mind altering medication prescribed for serious mental problems.

This person is either very prolific in hate speach or there are several herein with the same malady & perhaps even the same medication & medicator. None could have ever read a Jackson budget or state audit or read the newspaper, or listened to Mr. Jackson talk about money, need, or anything else. If Mr. Jackson is there, you will hear tales of antonyms - broke is excess money, good is bad, bad is good, 200% is 200 times better unless it's excess money & then you will not hear about it. I wonder if any of the medicated people have read the 2008 budget original through amended & found true written statements or the real amount of revenue?

Just wondering back here as I look into the CRT screen and marvel at a group of educated people comming up with a 3.8 out of 5 for a person who just can't seem to stop playing with numbers. I could understand 3.8 out of 100. I am so confused about what the lesson really is???

Can you say teacher input? That's why there is a calendar committee. I gave as an example how President Bush consults with his field generals before making decisions on Iraq. I thought you would be able to draw a comparison.
Yep, you have so many misunderstandings. I have tried diligently to help you with them. However, the one about my connection to Lincoln County and my supposed arrest record are absurd. The only person I knew from Lincoln County moved down to Mississippi, so I no longer know anyone who resides there.
You knew what I meant by the "worthy of office" question. But let me ask it another way. Who in county elected governemnt do you perceive as NOT being worthy?
If you or the anonymous poster above is unhappy with my post, it is regrettable. But I just get sick and tired of you people trying to hurt others, just because you see things differently than they do. That is the only dog I have in this race.

Saw the old clips of prelude to war tonight - your crusade for all powerful & omniputent leadership of the follow me to the river persuasion really isn't new. Do you look in the mirror, fold your arms up tight, cock you jaw upright & out front, toss the head back & to one side as you practice what you're going to say to WAB if you can find a pair of elevator shoes high enough to where you can almost see his eyes.

Settle down & avoid the big one. Go to a medrosicus & get an arab to teach you how to get down on all fours & "whale" a bit (flop around if desired) - that would more likely impress WAB rather than make him mad & deck you. Forget it, you'll never measure up, save you teeth, you may want to learn how to chew gum & talk at the same time.

I know, you want respect, but that doesn't come until you get respectable.

to: 5:35, 1:36, and whatever other times you posted: We all get that you don't like Mr. Barrett. You made your point, but this topic is not about him.Start your own thread and rant and rave all you want. I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt in my 7:36 post. The topic of this thread is the school calendar and I can't find where Mr. Barrett expressed an opinion on here, but simply started the thread, stated only facts. If you hate him so much, for goodness sakes, don't read what he writes, you can read the exact same facts in the paper not written by WAB. Focus on the TOPIC, not the reporter.
Watch and learn, whoever you are...this is how mature grown ups have a discussion. I stated in another topic about how GCBOE would not take away fall break because it would result in a 5 day pay increase for employees. Someone corrected me and stated that the BOE could simply elect to start school later or dismiss earlier and still be within the 200days required. I had not thought of that and I stand corrected. I am not angry and I do not consider whoever it was that corrected my information an idiot, crooked, liar, or anything negative at all. I presume that they think I was simply unaware that the allotted days could be juggled anyway the BOE sees fit without adding 5 days to the calendar. It just had not occurred to me. We didn't agree, but at least on my part, I was willing to listen and I learned something. And nobody got personal. Focus on the topic, please. Who gives a flip who starts the topic? Like I said in previous post, (with this slight variation)"to ignore the facts, even if Mr. Barrett reports them accurately without bias, distortion, or exagerration, (as he did in this case), does NOT change the facts. I believe someone else hit the nail on the head when they said "If WAB said the sky was blue, whoever the angry person is, would have a problem and go off on a tirade." (I paraphrased, I hope I did not offend to original writer of that statement.) Sir or Ma'am, the topic is the school calendar and I have first hand knowledge that the committee is a dog and pony show and the decision has been made months ago, just as the contract between GCEA and the school board was decided on long before negotiations began. That is the topic for this thread. You actually flatter Mr. Barrett by giving him so much press and obviously he is very much in control of you and your emotions. I would hate for anyone to have that much power over me. And I do have to say again, whether you agree or disagree with WAB, he doesn't "hide" behind anon. postings like the rest of us. Wish I had that much integrity. It is so easy to spout off and hurl accusations when nobody knows who you are...kinda like the kamikaze bombers, in WWII, (and yes I am including myself in the less than honorable anon postings) Remember the topic----School Calendar

Look, I have said many times on this blog that I do not hate this man. I have made no secret of the fact that I utterly despise the way he talks down to people who don't see things the way he does. However, I've also said that I'm sure he has a lot of good qualities. So, that's really a lame argument, isn't it?
By the way, was it not wab who stated that Mr. Jackson decides what he wants to do with the calendar and renders the committee useless? I believe that's the negative comment he made when the thread was posted. I merely pointed out to him that Mr. Jackson, like President Bush, solicits input and then makes his decisions. What on earth is wrong with that? Why would that not be construed as leadership?
Your argument about hiding behind anonymous has just about been talked to death on this blog. You do realize of course that some people have got to remain anonymous, don't you? Even if that were not the case, some of us would not want to be subjected to insults and name-calling by some people who apparently have nothing better to do. Further, some would not tolerate it one bit, and I've warned wab that its a perilous situation at best to be calling people names.
Lastly, you speak of honor. I applaud you for that, because it is highly important. However, where is the honor in calling people names and making ruinous statements in public about them? Whether the charges be true or not, the victims have innocent family members who can get hurt.
I hope this will help with yours and wab's misunderstandings.

I realize some people can't, as I claim to be one of them, as I am in education, but the bottom line is we don't care enough about the issues to publicly take a stand and right or wrong, he does. No, I don't always agree with him, seldom do as a matter of fact, but if he as you accuse him, slings mud, (which I don't think he does), he doesn't hide behind "anon". You hurl your accusations and "mud" anon, which is childish. At least everyone but you, (and now me) keeps on the topic, your only agenda is insulting Mr. Barrett. I still can't see why you would want to waste your life and talents in a hick town filled with crooks, liars, and people who lack the intelligence and motivation to know what is going on. What a shame.

Take down your mirrors and the

Riddler (or anonymous)..
I am very proud of my town and county. I was merely being facetious, but you had to put a negative spin on it. I should have known better.

No, I am not a crook or a liar. You would like to think that so you could add one more notch to your gun. Perhaps the people I see in my mirror are you guys in the background, doing your best to dig up some trash to peddle. But you will be looking in the wrong place at my house. But you wouldn't be invited to my house anyhow.
In parting, let me say God bless America and God bless our wonderful county. Would you call that negative?

I don't think it is good for your health (mental and physical) to be so filled with hatred and resentment toward those who have power that you guys so desperately crave. Why don't you try a hobby? Granted, your magnificent ability to write prose is impressive, but being upset all the time is not good.
Why are you worried about my grammatical errors? I don't usually proof what I have typed, so perhaps I did misspell "facetious". However, I was very clear on my points, wouldn't you agree?
I still think you are a nuttopist. No, wait! You may be a pisstnut instead. Laughable.

I think you are the one that is a nut. Not everyone wants to be in charge of a bunch of people that say one thing and then do another.

I am only a nut because I don't like what you guys are doing? Is that all you have to offer in support of your claim? I'm sorry, but I don't see all the crooks and liars as you do. But I'm only an ignorant Giles Countian, right?

Wrong, my whining friend; or should I say adversary? I was simply telling you what you think about people who do not see things exactly as you do. It was an effort to get you to examine your own attitudes of intolerance toward people who don't agree with you. It obviously didn't work.

Oh, I knew there are more than one whiner on here. And, even though you may think I am the only one who stands opposed to what you guys are doing, you are very wrong.
I don't ask EVERYONE to listen to me or to anyone else for that matter. I simply suggest that people wake up to what's really going on. Can you not understand that on a free speech blog, there has to be opportunity for different views to be expressed? Otherwise, where is the free speech?
If the reference to dyed-in-the-wool liberal is directed at me, you are incredibly wrong once again. If I'm anything, I am a proud-to-be-American conservative in the tradition of Ronald Wilson Reagan. And I have to say it would take a small-mind to regard a Reagan conservative an idiot.
Have a wonderful day!

You are wrong. I'd be glad to post my views and have done just that on several occasions. However, I will NOT sit idly by and allow someone to call me names without defending myself. And what's wrong with that?

I will NOT sit idly by and allow someone to call me names -- good point- why not get a life & stop being the dufus everyone sees in you. Why try to run someone else's life when you can't seem to figure out what your's is all about?

Notice that I didn't say "my own affairs", because you guys would most likely try to make a derogatory remark about affairs.

Uh, I think I was trying to say that a fair-minded person would challenge the negative posts of those who get on this blog and attempt to embarrass and berate those they either dislike or resent. At least that's what I believe. Maybe you know more about my thought processes than I do.
Let's pose an hypothetical situation. Suppose a few people were on here smearing and badmouthing one of your loved ones? Would you just go along with it or would you defend them? I think we know the answer to that, don't we?

So to even the score, you get on here and badmouth someone elses loves ones. That sounds like the adult thing to do.

Wrong again! This has got to be frustrating for you.
Your silly assertion holds no water. I don't badmouth anyone. I see arrogance and I call it arrogance; I see kindness, and I call it kindness. Do you understand what I mean?
As for badmouthing someone's loved ones, I would think the adult thing for the person in question's family to have done long ago is to have pulled him aside and offered him some constructive criticism as to how to treat others. But that either didn't happen or he paid no attention to it.
The person in question (I assume you mean wab) has toned down his rhetoric, so there's less need anymore for giving him verbal spankings. The futre looks bright, and I'm thinking he should be commended. And that is positive, right?

You arrogant hypocritical piece of dog poop. You obviously have no clue as to how totally stupid and contradictory you are. You couldn't verbally spank a two year old moron because you would have to be smarter than the moron and you ain't.
You have talked bad about wab and everyone else who happens to disagree with you. You are an enabler that is so dumb you can't even see yourself much less anyone else. Blow dirt bag for all you do is stir the dust that's accumulated
between your ears. You arrogance is incredible and only exceeded by your overly inflated sense of importance. Someone wrote on here that you are irrelevant and that fits you perfectly.

As I have stated just recently, I've not had to give wab any spankings lately, because I believe he has seen the error of his ways. And that is a positive thing. It's sad because you don't seem to get it.
I thought of a real irony after reading your asinine post. Had you addressed it to the wab of yesterday, it would have fit him perfectly. You mentioned such things as incredible arrogance and inflated sense of importance. Can you see the irony in that?
One final irony. Wab has stopped (at least for now) calling people names. Have you decided to step up and take his place in the name-calling business? It appears that you have. But I will overlook the names you just called me(for now). However, if you keep it up, don't be surprised when you receive a spanking.

How can you dare to put yourself up as the one to be giving anyone a spanking. You are doing the exact same thing you are accusing everyone else of doing. You talk about someone else being arrogant, you take the cake.

Mr. McPeters, it would be nice if you would refer the bickering people to go to a chat line. That way people could enjoy your blog more and get some good information from it that won't go in the paper.

As the reference to the calendar and another side of the story it is this. The past school board has allowed Mr. Jackson alot of power through the board policy. The state has done so as well. The calendar was done first by Tee Jackson who slyly gave it to Bill Holt to lie that Tee had never seen it. Mr. Holt and Ms. Parker (VP ath GCHS) give the committee the opportunity to do a calendar and then the two calendars were voted on. The teachers calendar was to be presented due to a land slide vote for it by the teachers. The calendar then came to the calendar committe composed of Fred Lindsay, Bev Murrey, and Jim Greene. Mr. Greene was not present so it was Jackson, Murrey and Lindsay. After the three talked the final say so was up to Jackson so he wanted to present his calendar. So a group of people spent countless hours on a done deal. Mrs. Murrey stood up for what the majority wanted and Mr. Jackson reluctantly but did do the right thing and go back to the calendar and make changes that the teachers wanted. At least they have gotten something in their favor.

But if anyone is interested fall Eddie Bass about the starting after Labor Day bill. Dolly Wood and other recreational and big tourism places are really pushing for it. Once school starts they don't have enough employees to keep things running. So call Eddie.

And please send the people to a chat room so people will enjoy this blog for what it really is for.
