Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Ron Shirey Leaving Giles School System

It was announced that Mr. Ron Shirey a long time Giles County educator is leaving his position, effective 5 September, for a similar position in Marshall County. What would make a person with so much invested in this school system decide to leave for basically the same job in another county?

The Election Isn’t Over Yet!!

Five people are seeking to be elected to the Pulaski City Board of Aldermen they are the incumbents Mr. James Gentry, Mr. Jeff Hatfield and Mrs. Vickie Harwell and the challengers Mr. Colby Baddour and Mr. Robert E. Lee Jr.

The Wall for What?

During the move into the Courthouse Annex the Election Office made a strong case for building a wall to create a smoother traffic pattern for voters on Election Day. Alternatives were offered by different commissioners and citizens including a temporary wall that could be moved during non-election days at a significant savings. Finally at the insistence of the Election officials a permanent block wall was built at a cost of about $18,000.00.
As those voting on Election Day know voting no longer is done in the courthouse Annex but is now at Martin College.
Why was this wall, at such great expense, built then the Election Commission move the voting precinct to Martin College?

Ambulance Station for Minor Hill!

The Budget Committee this morning approved putting an ambulance station in Minor Hill at a cost of between 250 and 300 thousand dollars a year. The last station that was established cost over $400,000.00. To accomplish this it would add $.05 to the tax rate.
The question isn’t do they need or deserve an ambulance station in Minor Hill but can the county afford it and what happens when the folks on Rose Hill/Campbellsville ask for one; don’t they also need and deserve a station? How many other communities would like to have an ambulance station?
The ambulance service has lost a tremendous amount of money each of the past number of years and while the service is needed isn’t it about time that it be made a more efficient less costly service. Is it unreasonable to suggest they at least break even if not make money?
