Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. Commissioner Billy Beets To Resign!

Word comes out of Campbellsville that long time Commissioner Billy Beets plans to resign from the County Commission effective 22 September 2009. Commissioner Beets has had a number of health issues and that seems to be the main issue with his resigning.
Commissioner Beets may not have always been up on the intricacies taking place on the commission but I always found him willing to listen, and honest about what he believed was right. A loss to the Commission however will be a gain for the constant Rook game down at the store. Thanks Mr. Beets for your service.

Rescue Squad Vs Emergency Management

There seems to be much interest in the Rescue Squad and the Emergency Management departments. Several questions and statements were left on another thread so I have started this one specific to this subject. Allen Barrett

Where Does The County Executive Actually Reside?

Once again this question has arisen and been requested as a discussion thread.
While it may seem that this matter has been discussed in one side and out the other and resolved there are many who may have missed some of the discussions and are still wondering how it is that the County Executive can continue getting away with claiming to reside at 901 E. College Street in Pulaski while actually maintaining a residence with her husband and family on Vanzant Road in the Dellrose Community of Lincoln County.
It's not really a difficult thing to accomplish when you have the election commission unable to investigate and verify the address of basically anyone who comes in and declares they live at a certain address. Adding to the problem is having a state election commission and District Attorney who either are not interested or unable to investigate and you have a perfect situation for defrauding the voters.
It would be very interesting to see the power bills for the College Street address for the past four years and see just how many months more that the minimum charges were applied. Allen Barrett

Is It Time For Change At Pulaski Elementary School?

While some may feel it is way past time for some major changes at Pulaski Elementary School for a large number of reasons I would like to present two situations for your consideration and comments.

The School Librarian. What is the situation that keeps parents complaining about this lady but nothing goes into her personnel file except for a reprimand requiring she stay away from another teacher reported to be having an affair with her.
Charges have been made that she has told little children there is no Santa Claus, is very critical of children and their appearance, has posted explicit pictures on the internet and seems to spend less and less time in the Library with students and more and more time with a certain teacher.

The School Principal. Why is it that with more complaints being filed with the school about the Librarian and promises being made to have those complaints included in the personnel file that file still has only one official reprimand? Based on the behavior of the principal at a recent public gathering where he displayed some of the most out of control arrogantly rude behavior seen in recent years, the question arises as to why there has been no official reprimand by the School System for this most embarrassing situation created by this school official?

I would be very interested in speaking with those who have made complaints and were told they would be included in the personnel files, especially any member of the group of parents that went in mass to the principal about the Librarian. Allen Barrett

WHAT HAPPENED??????

There's a famous story where a young boy comes up to "Shoeless" Joe Jackson after the 1919 World Series baseball scandal and with a saddened face and broken heart calls out to "Shoeless" Joe, "say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so".
When I read the news that the School Board had elected Mike Young as the new chairman and Jim Greene as the new vice-chair, over and over my stunned mind kept repeating, "say it ain't so, say it ain't so".
Look, Mike Young is a good guy, a very likable person but based on his past activities on the school board he doesn't have the backbone of an amoeba. Putting him in the position of chairman will undo everything positive that was accomplished during the past year. With Mr. Young as chairman they may as well have re-elected Mrs. Norman the only other person on the board who can say yes to the Director faster. Mr. Young can talk a good game but when it has come down to actions he has been an obstructionist to placing controls on the Director,
To say I am disappointed in this election is a vast understatement, I am disgusted that such a step backwards would be taken. Allen Barrett
