Giles Free Speech Zone

The purpose of the "Giles Free Speech Zone" is to identify problems of concern to the people of Giles County, to discuss them in a gentlemanly and civil manner, while referring to the facts and giving evidence to back up whatever claims are made, making logical arguments that avoid any use of fallacy, and, hopefully, to come together in agreement, and find a positive solution to the problem at hand. What Do We Want to Keep Out of Giles County?

Okay, gang... time to put on your thinking caps! If we were to start at square one, and develop as perfect a plan as possible for keeping "nuisances" out of Giles County... what all would we want to count as nuisances?

Once we have developed a comprehensive list, we can move on to the next stage, and maybe, just maybe, we can, over time, develop an ordinance for Giles County right here on this blog, wiki style. So, let's get started...

E-mail topic: Vanishing School System Raises?

I would like to know what happened to the $1,000.00 raises per employee that were promised to the school system employees? The commissioners approved the money for each and everyone of them. so the money was given to the school system but not to the employees... why?

E-mail topic: Pulaski, the Ghost Town

Why isnt there anything to do in Pulaski, How come the pool closes before summer is actually over.. Why is it that every other little town manages to pull in business's but we keep getting ones that close down? Isnt there anyway to get some kind of survey for all Pulaskians to fill out about what they would like to see in our town?

E-mail topic: School System Nonsense

Don MacDermid, this topic is all for you...

E-mail topic: Hunter Smith Building Repair?

Who has a copy of the inspection report (?) that identified to Giles Co government just what is wrong (supposedly) with the restoration work done on the Hunter-Smith building?? Has anyone ever seen one?? Who did the report? When was it done? Why havent the commissioners got on and fixed it?

The taxpayers have owned that relic of a building for ten years but we cant put people in it , we can't store stuff in it so it is a total loss (what's new?) that we surely pay insurance and other maintenance for every month .What a waste of our taxes ....the Commission needs to get off their backsides and get it finished so that it meets code and can be used instead of being an eyesore on the square. A contractor was paid $120,000 to supposedly fix the building ...was that just $$ down the drain?

E-mail topic: County Executive Column?

If the local paper was to offer the County Executive a regular (weekly ?) column to keep the taxpayers informed of what's happening in County Government would it be of interest to the readers?? Or would they rather just keep on reading who won the 9 yr olds baseball game ?

E-mail topic: Extraction Tax Rip-Off?

Has the County Government settled with the rock company relative to the extraction taxes owed for materials used as fill in the Home Depot store complex?? Who signed off for the county?? What was the resolution? Were we outsmarted by Rogers' Group attorneys yet again?

E-mail topic: Crappy Toilets at the Agri-Park?

When is the County going to fix the Taj Mahal toilets at the Agri-Park so that they work? County paid dearly to have toilets plus a non-working septic/sewer/pump system installed by a local contractor (approx $250,000 ?? ). When there is an event at the park it costs nearly $200 PER DAY to have the storage tank pumped out as the pumps wont push the goodies out to the highway 31 main sewerline.

Stop the Presses! Blogmaster Wrong About Early Voting!

Elsewhere on this blog, I repeated the oft-heard story that suggests there is something "fishy" about the early vote in Giles County. "It’s the first vote counted, and the last reported," so the story goes. Well, as it turns out, that isn’t exactly the case... (Click on "comments," below, to continue reading.)
